Yes Jack was a great guy as well as a very knowledgeable poster and greatly missed. I hope the family and in particular two boys are doing well, they’d be pretty much out of school and independent now, or getting close to it I would guess.

Chelsea Football Club is once more providing accommodation at Stamford Bridge to the National Health Service (NHS).
Club owner Roman Abramovich will again be covering the costs of providing the accommodation, which includes bed and breakfast, in the Copthorne Hotel. A similar initiative was rolled out last March in response to the first coronavirus outbreak in London.

Many of the medical staff will be working long hours and may not be able to travel home or would have to make long commutes at a time when the virus is so transmissible. The rooms will be initially available until the next government review in mid-February.

Millennium Hotels and Resorts, who manage the hotel, are supportive and assisting the club in providing this service to the NHS.”

    Well done Roman!

Former Chelsea winger Paul Canoville is critically ill in hospital following emergency surgery.

The 58-year-old, who runs his own foundation and campaigns against racism, was the Blues first ever black player when he signed in 1981.

In a short statement, his foundation confirmed: “We are sad to advise that our founder Paul Canoville is critically ill in hospital after complications set in after emergency surgery. We are aware that his many fans and followers on his social media accounts have been missing his regular posts for over two weeks now.

“We know how loved Paul is and will post updates as we get them, but ask that his family’s wish for privacy is respected and that they are not contacted by the media. The PFA are in contact with Paul’s family and being very supportive.

“Please keep Paul in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.”

Keep fighting “Canners” thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

ha ha even if we were allowed to play both legs at Stamford Bridge I reckon we’d struggle. The Atletico Madrid I have seen this season compared to the Chelsea I have seen this season tell me it’s going to be exceptionally tough. We can however live in hope.

Watched the Newcastle v West Ham match and they nearly stuffed up. Little wonder they are right down in the basement struggling to survive. Thank goodness for that 3rd. What a great result that was for Chelsea. Brighton at Home coming up and then we have some control regarding 4th providing we win. What were Newcastle doing 2nd half though, 2 -0 up and 11 against 10 and they flirted with danger.

I can only imagine what our old friend Jack would think of all the nonsense surrounding the ESL.

He certainly wouldn’t have held back with his opinions which were always a joy to hear. I suspect they would have gone along the lines of they are all a few stubbies short of a six-pack.

I still miss him, fortunately I’ve still got a lot of his e mails to re read he’s been an inspiration to me personally with my own illness with how he handled his illness always with a smile on his face always with good humour.

He really was a special guy and we can all learn a lot from him.

    Miss you buddie.

Nice post 999. It’s been tough on here with Jack passing, 1905 basically ceasing to exist on here and now Allan Palmer being uncontactable. I fear the worst now for 1905 however hope Allan is OK. Also hope you are doing OK mate 🙂

Good to see Paul Canoville is on the mend 999. He was touch and go at one stage. I sent him a message on twitter and got a like back which was nice as he no doubt appreciated what I had to say 🙂

In response to a request made by one of our fellow posters in the site, and also keeping the memories of our friend Jack, i have decided to post this post in this thread.

I don’t know why Chelsea are dragging their feet to meet Aguero’s £200k p/w salary demands? If Willian who was similar in age and less productive in front of the goalwas given a £220k p/w contract by one of our rivals who has lesser budget than us. Then the par is set high.

We need Aguero, even if he is 32, he will have 3 more years at the top level, and i believe we can keep him fit. I have to say, one day in the future we may rue this mistake if we don’t take this opportunity.

Great post Wisefan, the problem is that we don’t know what is going on behind the scenes. Chelsea always conducts their business secretly and away from the glaring media. And also let me remind you, that Aguero is technically still contracted to Mancity, so there is no way we will make any announcement, because the rules in the PL prevent us from doing so.

If Aguero was at a European club, I suspect Chelsea would have wrapped up this deal in January. But we have to abide by the rules. I can also understand, the club’s reluctance to meet such hefty wages for a player who is on the wrong side of his thirties and hasn’t had a good fitness record recently. And you know scoring goals for other club counts nothing when you join Chelsea you will be judged on what you do. Another reminder is our marquee strikers haven’t been good.

First of all, Aguero isn’t an injury-prone striker. and to tell you, here is his stats for City. 2011/12 season he had 34 appearances and he scored 23 goals. in the 2012/13 season he had 30 appearances and scored 12 goals. in the 2013/14 season he had 23 appearances and he scored 17 goals. in the 2014/15 season, he had 33 appearances and scored 26 goals. in the 2015/16 season he had 30 appearances and scored 24 goals, in the 2016/17 season he had 31 appearances and he scored 20 goals. in 2017/18 he has made 25 appearances and scored 21 goals. in the 2018/19 he has made 33 appearances an scored 21 goals. in 2019/20 he has made 24 appearances and he scored 16 goals. And this season he has made 9 appearances and scored 1 goal. that is pretty impressive in my books.

“And this season he has made 9 appearances and scored 1 goal.”

That’s the more worrying stat WF, we should have bought him in 2011 he would have won the CL by now too if we had!😊

Personally I think he’s still worth a punt although Haaland and others could have an impact on that.

Well if you minus from this season, he has a very decent fitness and goal scoring record. and you know you can’t label him injury prone because of one season.

Simply he is older and therefore more prone to injury and possibly in decline. Players generally are in their peak years around 26-28. He is now 32 nearly 33. Past his best and therefore a risk. Chelsea’s policy regarding players over 30 years of age is to only grant a one season contract and is there for a reason.

    The perfect summary 67.

The Club have to weigh up whether Aguero is a risk worth taking what he did previously at City and fitness wise through his seasons there is not applicable now outside this current season and it’s what he can do for Chelsea next season should we offer him a contract that matters and how long that contract will be.

His injuries this season and the number of games he’s played which have been very limited will be a concern as well probably as whether we make a big money signing for a striker.

I doubt Aguero would come to Chelsea on the offer of a one year contract it would probably have to be two years with a one year option.

I suspect there might well be discussions going on behind the scenes between Chelsea and his Agent but they can’t be made public because as a PL Club we are not allowed to officially approach him until the season ends whereas Barca for instance could have already announced his signing.

Personally I think he might well be worthy of investigation let’s wait and see where it all goes.

Yes, Simply he is older and therefore more prone to injury and possibly in decline. So was Thiago Silva was in his prime when we signed him? Isn’t that a tad hypocritical? At 32 Aguero isn’t in decline and he is having some little problems like players sometimes have. Even if he plays half of our games, he will outscore our current striker force. We signed Giroud exactly the same age as Aguero is now. so this age issue is just pure non-sense.
