First decision for Frank is what system to deploy. I expect Kepa, Rudiger and Willian to return but will Frank plump for 3/4/2/1 or will he go for 4/3/3 and match up to Liverpool and what Liverpool side will Klopp select?
4 at the back for Chelsea puts Alonso’s place at risk because Azpi is likely to play there if we go 4 at the back. With perhaps Pedro starting if we go 4/3/3.
More questions than answers currently but probably not too many of them given whose realistically available to him due to injuries ideally I think Frank would like to give RLC some minutes v Liverpool with no Jorginho for the next three games but I doubt he’ll start him.
March 2, 2020 at 11:09 am #1831416RLC to play for the Under 23’s tonight as he needs game time so at best he would be on the bench tomorrow but even that looks a tad unlikely given his injury.
Lampard on team news: “Christensen has a small issue. We will give him another 24 hours but he is probably out.”
No Abraham, Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi or Kante for Liverpool. No one is back who was injured. Loftus-Cheek is playing with the U23s tonight. #CFC”
March 3, 2020 at 2:37 am #1831621It’s really all about what side Liverpool employ. They play their first eleven and we have a battle on our hands. They play their kids and it should be a walk in the park. Tough to discuss much without being privy to that information.
March 3, 2020 at 8:04 am #1831643I think they’ll rest a few 67 with the Atletico game in mind plus Bournemouth a few days before that game but they will still put out a strong team.
Other than maybe Kepa being given another chance Frank has indicated he will treat the game as a PL and I think he’s right to do that.
Either way it won’t be an easy game.
March 3, 2020 at 9:41 am #1831671I read somewhere that Klopp will field a very strong side for this FA cup tie, personally I believe without those front 3 and van Dyke at the back Liverpool are an ordinary team. Interesting game if we lose too bad as we in transition for the future.
March 3, 2020 at 10:15 am #1831683I´d be surprised if Liverpool go all kids like they have in the previous rounds. The title is in the bag so they dont need to be resting the 1st teamers for the league, its just a matter of when they win it. Klopp would surely now fancy a league and cup double so I´m sure we´ll see something closer to full strength tonight, although I really hope not as we will have a serious challenge on our hands to beat a strong Liverpool team.
Until we see the line ups, hard one to predict. With the players out that we’ve got, I´m not overly confident tonight but we´ll see.
March 3, 2020 at 10:36 am #1831696Reaction to RLC ‘s performance for the development squad last night:
“Loftus Cheek was sublime. I know it’s just the developmental squad but boy did he look in fine form. We need him back ASAP.”
Be good to get him back playing maybe v Everton is an opportunity for 60 mins with no Jorginho? Unlikely to figure tonight though having played 90 mins last night.
March 3, 2020 at 11:01 am #1831707That is wonderful news re RLC, his thrust, power and goals from midfield will be massive for us for the rest of the season. I imagine he’ll get some 1st team minutes at the weekend and then hopefully get him back starting ASAP. He’s been a huge loss to us this season!
March 3, 2020 at 1:33 pm #1831772I don’t believe Liverpool will go all kids either. But I don’t believe either Liverpool will go full team. Watford showed everybody else how to beat them. As long as we are tight in our defense and we take our chances: we can beat them.
March 3, 2020 at 1:44 pm #1831777Agree with Aindro it won’t be the kids for Liverpool and I suspect it won’t be a full Liverpool team either but let’s not kid ourselves it will be a long way from a full Chelsea team too so it won’t be easy and we could have probably done without the Watford result.
March 3, 2020 at 6:54 pm #1831889Kepa; Azpilicueta (c), Rudiger, Zouma, Alonso, Gilmour, Kovacic, Barkley, Willian, Giroud, Pedro.
Interesting team back to 4/3/3 and 18 year old Billy Gilmour starts.
March 3, 2020 at 7:08 pm #1831895Decent starting 11. We’ve a chance but Van Dyk and Gomez will be difficult to get past. Keep Mane quiet, that’s almost half the job done. Hope we can dominate midfield and take our bladdy chances.
March 3, 2020 at 8:40 pm #1831924Billy Gilmour immense, Giroud and Pedro the opposite. Kepa a massive triple save which is good for his and our confidence.
March 3, 2020 at 8:46 pm #1831929No wonder we have a clean sheet and our defence looks more comfortable now that Christensen and Jorginho are out. the only concern for me is the wasted opportunities that we have seen this half so far. Kepa looks a man with a point to prove. and whatever Frank has done looks to have the desired effects as he is looking fantastic so far.
March 3, 2020 at 10:15 pm #1831957Big win and it should really have been more great performance from young Gilmour hell of a hit from Barkley for the second. Fine performances all over the pitch Kepa, Alonso and Giroud had fine games.
Really pleased for Frank as the vultures were beginning to circle in the media.
March 3, 2020 at 10:39 pm #1831965Have to say I thought Giroud was outstanding. Just my opinion mind. That Billy Gilmour was sublime. What a player. Major differences between him and Jorginho are pace, his ability to look to play forward when he receives the ball and his willingness to get stuck in. Jorginho is suspended, well Gilmour has earned the right to start I reckon.
March 3, 2020 at 10:55 pm #1831975Wow! Loved it – well done to the whole team but especially youg Billy and Kepa.
Giroud makes such a difference.
Just Wow 🙂March 4, 2020 at 6:56 am #1831977Brilliant performance from the team and huge performances from Kepa, Gilmour and Giroud, the spine of the team which I think demonstrates how crucial top performers in those areas are! Those 3 were outstanding but everyone played so well, that was a team pulling together all night, Pedro run his socks off all night, reminded me a bit of John Spencer tearing clear of the Austria Vienna defence in 94 when he went clean through, didn’t have the composure of wee John though.
Rode our luck a little in the first half but thanks to Kepa and some top saves we came through it and 2nd half we were by far the better team, Liverpool got away lightly in the end at 2-0.
Delighted for us as fans but more so for Frank, been getting some undue stick lately so he deserves that one. If we can turn in performances like that most weeks we’ll cruise top 4!
March 4, 2020 at 8:59 am #1832011One thing I don’t like in a coach is one that changes a team to be fair and give a player a run, regardless of wether he deserves it. What is great this season is the way Frank is making the players fight hard for their place on the training ground and in the team if they get the chance, it is a top quality in a coach and it should get the desire and winning mentality back.
March 4, 2020 at 10:49 am #1832047I was about to put up a summary post but Luigi above summarised everything perfectly imo.
Like him and bar young Billy Gilmour who was immense with everyone else playing their part last night I was most pleased for Frank because the media vultures were beginning to circle.
Only downside was two more injuries.
Bottle that performance and bring it out regularly in the PL run in and we have every chance of making 4th place.
Kepa to stay in goal?
Be tough on Willy but I think so.
