999 I think CHO was our MoM. Barkley IMO wasn’t showing too much going forward; he would need to show more. We need more players in the box when attacking, or somebody who can shoot from outside. But it’s good that Sarri likes him. We saw him at Everton and I think he is a very good player. Hopefully he will fluorish under Sarri.

And now about defense: David Luiz was a complete pant IMO. Lack of concentration again resulting to our 2nd goal. Alonso did not have a good match neither, and I do see both Alonso and Azpi are still adjusting to our new system. Our best defender for me was Rudiger. I am still not sure about Willy as our 1st GK as Courtois is more and more likely out: he had a really bad WC. But he could not do much for 2 Aguero’s goals yesterday and he did not put any wrong foot.

Aindro, I agree CHO was bright difficult to find a MOM from that team performance though. I would think Sarri would have been concerned by what he saw yesterday.

With regard to Barkley, lets not forget that the lad really has not played for over a year and so is bound to be a bit rusty. He has moved away from his roots and last season with us was basically in rehab for most of the time. He has worked all through the Summer to gain fitness and is now looking to impress Sarri

And according to the reports he is managing to do this as Sarri is already quoted as stating that Barkley has to improve his defensive work but will certainly feature this season. No idea how long it will take for him to have real confidence in the bad injury he suffered and to regain his overall game but the initial signs are good, Sarri is clearly happy which should give Barkley confidence and in the end only games will help get him back to the level he once was

Give the boy time as potentially we have a 15m snip of a gem waiting to play for us. KTBFFH

CFC1905: agreed. I hope that we won’t buy any another CM to give Barkley and/or RLC opportunities. He’s still 24 and hopefully he will be our future back-bone. We lost Cech, Terry, Lampard, Drogba. Now it’s time to build a new back-bone of the team. And hopefully Barkley will be one of them. And also Hazard if he commits to us.

999: Honestly I don’t see us that bad. City were superior to us in every area, that’s it. But if we can sort our scoring problem, we should be good. I can see our engine Jorginho – Kanté working well when the latter will come back later on this week. What was missing especially the chemistry up front. No idea why people were raving about Pedro, but for me he has no footballing brain. My starter for wingers would be Hazard – CHO/Willian with Giroud/Tammy as striker.

I weren’t expecting victory and I thought up until the 2nd goal we played ok. But after the 2nd goal the team just stopped caring.

I thought we looked very unfit. Goals is our major problem and Sarri-ball is not the solution for this.

    Best Performers:
    – Caballero
    – Hudson-Odoi
    – Barkley

Caballero: did all he could to prevent the score being 3-5 nil
Hudson-Odoi: Looked bright and created himself 2 shooting opportunities.
Barkley: Looking fit, strong and ready for the season. Worked hard in the the mid.

    Worst Performers:
    – Morata
    – Alonso
    – Luiz

Morata: again was appalling he must of retained possession like 2 times.
    Alonso: Mahrez destroyed him.
Luiz: I found he was so slow to move the ball which allowed City to position themselves and block off our avenues.

I do like Jorginho. With Kanté, they will be our engine. He needs to adapt to the speed of Premier League, but he works very hard, he was basically everywhere. Unfortunately our attack was inept yesterday.

I suggest to start the season with Tammy up front.
