Bort, as I said yesterday we are where we are and it’s pretty clear that Sarri is going to give Morata a run of games to see if he can find some goal scoring form circa half a dozen games down the line if Morata is still struggling for goals then Sarri will almost certainly try something different just as he did with Mertens at Napoli.

Brilliant opening goal from Costa manufactured primarily by him alone. Massive footballing error getting rid of him.

999 if I remember correctly Costa wanted to go back to Spain and that infamous message Conte sent him was after the the fact. He was also a bad image for the club but of course he was and is still a great front man far better than anything we currently have.

Saw the result this morning of Real 2 Atletico 4 and immediately hoped that Courtois was playing. Alas he wasn’t 🙁 A clean sheet for Kepa against Arsenal will be ideal and ease the pain of losing Mr Golden Gloves.

I am hoping Morata can come good unlike Costa he appears to be a very decent chappie but of course its going to take a massive effort for him to get there. From what I know he was not too prolific at Madrid so maybe thats why they let him go? Giroud also no longer scores many goals but he does have a use upfront in holding up the ball and bringing in other players. What about Abraham and HO they quite capable of finding that net.

Team selection for Saturday will be interesting but could be vital. I am assuming that Hazard will be considered as fit so many options open for Sarri up front but I fully expect him to start with Morata

Not seen much this week regarding Kovacic so no idea if he would be considered in the middle. Potentially the type of player we need for such a big game but on the other hand maybe too much to drop him in at the deep end…? I am sure that Sarri will make the call based on what he has seen in training and what he took from their game last week

Must admit cannot wait to get to the Bridge for the first home game of the season and to start off with a win against a potential rival for a top 4 place this season. KTBFFH

Blueowner, no doubt Costa was a handful to manage and could be a complete pain in the Arsenal at times but giving up on managing him cost us a CL place last season and goodness knows what else going forwards put Costa in this current Chelsea team and it would be probably more than Liverpool challenging City for the title.

Costa would have frightened the Arsenal defence to death on Saturday.

really? After all the grief he gave the club, were still hankering after costa? I think it was one of the few things conte got right was moving him on at all costs. Terrible terrible attitude, much like tbo. Thank goodness we don’t have to listen to them whine, moan and belittle the club. Good riddance.

Yes obviously miss Costa on the field but also it’s good we have let him and Courtious go. Too much vanity and too much into themselves rather than the team or the club. No need to comment any further.

Agree Roman. What 999 says is right though. With Costa there we make the 4 and the Champions League no doubt BUT and a big BUT, Costa had to want to be there and in the mood and I don’t believe he wanted to be there so its all a moot point really. Conte couldn’t manage him and that is unfortunate. I get the feeling Conte couldn’t manage quite a few of them and there was probably some sort of mutiny happening. Not the first time. The following have all had their time in the sun stirring trouble around the squad, Fabregas, Courtois, Hazard, Costa, Luiz, Willian even though they tend to deny it. How many managers have fallen on their sword as a result of player power and little or no support to the manager by the suits. How many clubs have had that same sort of problem? Maybe United with Van Gaal and Moyes but not many others that have been suggested. Lets hope the players don’t bring it all crashing down on Sarri too. Time will tell.

    We are all right

Costa is sorely missed on the pitch and on the day if his attitude was correct, like last night, then a complete handful and you would always feel confident we would score. However, he was not always like that and off the pitch caused no end of problems and confrontations. We consistently get hit with player power accusations so that was nothing new but how the whole episode was handled was very poor

Bottom line is that after a year with Morata we clearly miss Costa as the bullying CF who knows how to put the ball in the back of the net but that is water under the Bridge now so we have to move on and support Morata to help change his fortunes in front of goal. KTBFFH

Costa was a really good goalscorer for us. But he’s gone to Atletico. So now let’s support Morata (am not a fan of him and wanted him gone TBH) at least until January. If he can’t score, he should try to make other players scoring. After Drogba I am never optimist against Arsenal but would really be happy if we can grab 3 points on Saturday. If we can keep our defense tight, I believe we would steal a goal and win the match. 1-0 for us, Willian who scores.

I wouldn’t like to be a manager or as they become known now head coach. Sarri has to select his strongest possible team and at the same time keep the rest happy especially the young guns. When you that age you believe you are as capable as the older more experienced hands so it’s the one area in management that you can’t really win and that’s why player power rears it’s ugly head. Case of play me or else they can ask to go or worse start a mutiny like they have done in the past with nearly every manager we had.

That’s exactly why these guys get paid millions to make such decisions. You have to assume that he also speaks to the squad as well, possibly giving reasons as to his choices and telling the unlucky ones that they will get games as the season progresses

Equally these are professionals in a sport where rotation has to be understood and accepted so it is down to each individual to continue to work and prove they are worthy of a place in the team/squad

For me the only really big decision I expect that needs to be made tomorrow is who does Hazard replace as I am assuming he is deemed fit. Other than that I would stick with the team that started last weekend

As for the bench I would include Hudson ahead of Moses and add Kovacic is he is deemed to be fit and ready…? KTBFFH

Re Costa as per my previous posts I highlighted we missed Costa from a footballing perspective acknowledging that he was a handful to manage and could be a complete pain in the Arsenal at times.

We certainly don’t miss Costa the man but we do miss Costa the footballer who at times could be completely unplayable and sadly we haven’t managed to get anywhere near replacing him.

But I’m sensible enough to know that he’s gone now and we are where we are and we have to make the most of what we’ve got but letting Costa go and not adequately replacing him has imo cost us at least one CL place and maybe more and when he plays like he did against Real Madrid it’s a painful realisation of what we lost as a club football wise!

Word of caution for those advocating Hazard starts etc… I’ll point you in the direction of potential injury to KDB that is more than likely caused by muscle tiredness.. Lets not rush Hazard back just yet. I think between Willian and Pedro we can cover for the gam and have Hudson and hazard on if we need to chase or wanting to get some game time into their legs should we be winning.

Really looking forward to this one, hope we get the three points. Massive game already.

RDP – point well taken but I did say if considered to be fit. This was based on the cameo of last week followed by, I assume, a week of training

Agree that on current form both Pedro and Willian have done well and would be considered unlucky to be dropped so maybe leave Hazard for the bench and use him like last week if needed or simply to complete the humiliation we hope to inflict on Arsenal…!! KTBFFH

Just got an update claiming Chelsea to extend Willian contract and give him a 20% pay rise for being loyal and remaining with the Club…? KTBFFH

KDB’s injury was in training and a reoccurrence of a previous injury but you do have to be careful with returning World Cup players particularly a star player like Hazard.

Hazard will have 10 days of training behind him now and would only be picked to start if he was considered by the medical staff and Sarri fit enough to start otherwise he will start from the bench.

However we must not underestimate the size of the task v Arsenal or be misled by their performance v City as City make most teams look average as they did to us but a couple of weeks ago and then there’s Cech.

If Hazard is considered match fit he has to start imo if not we will have to rely on a cameo from the bench. I will be disappointed if we don’t see Hudson Odoi on the bench tomorrow though given his performance v Arsenal a couple of weeks back.
