Plenty of games to come blue owner and morata got his first for the season. Thought we’d spoon the result – solid three points in the end.

The lines between the fullbacks and who drops back to cover the opposition wingers when they go forward needs some work. City Huddersfield and arsenal have caused us issues down the flanks through the channels. Work in progress and can’t conplain.

Wonderful game and in the last ten we didn’t shut up shop. We were still going forward. I like that. Arsenal should have buried us out of sight… unlucky steveo- would have taken a draw on the first half performance, going to be knocking about top four as you like us have goals in the side. Pedro has been reborn and Barkley had useful minutes. Soo many positives. Onwards upwards and probably some entertaining losses. Good to hear hazard in his interview giving praise.. fingers crossed for the season!!!

Lots of positives including Morata scoring and it was a good goal too.

We played some lovely stuff today and had to win the game twice against an Arsenal team who are no slouches going forwards but if we continue to defend like we did today all over the pitch we will struggle to qualify for the CL.

In respect of Kante as good as he is released and bombing forwards we lose a lot defensively and against good offensive teams like Arsenal maybe we need to play him in a two with Jorginho sitting in front of the back four.

Plenty still to work on but a very good Chelsea performance offensively.

Helter Skelter football just the way Charles Manson would like it. Never seen anything like it. Exhausted myself at games end so buggered if I know how the players must have felt. Three points in the bank but geez our defence needs sorting.

Great result against an underestimated Arsenal team. Of course the big worry is the number of easy chances we gave them which fortunately were not converted.

Hazard and Kovacic made a massive impact so they can be considered definite starters for most games. Not sure where that leaves Loftus Cheek, Fabregas, Barkley and Willian now. Think at least one needs to go on loan to get game time.

Happy with the three points but not with our defensive performance. Also does anyone else feel that Kepa could have done better with their goals? Felt he was outplayed by Cech who was Arsenals best player.

Stu possibly the keeper could have saved the first, but that can’t take away from the woeful defending.

How, on so many occasions, Arsenal players had so much time and space in our 18 yard box beggars belief.

As 9 pointed out using Kante in the more advanced role leaves us more exposed and personally I don’t think that Luiz and Rudiger are the right combination at the back.

Unfortunately we were lulled into a false sense of security against Huddersfield, a team who set the record for surviving in the prem and scoring the least number of goals. Let’s face it if Arsenals players had not been so woeful with their shooting that could have been embarrassing.

We need Cahill in the back 4 purely from his organisational ability. Luiz does not suit a back four, Alonso is great going forward but not a natural out and out left back. We also need the midfield to close down a lot quicker.

Two great results to date but still an awful lot of work required.

Delighted to see Morata getting off the mark. Hopefully his season will kick on from here.

I was against so much being spent on a keeper however I don’t think you can blame him for those goals, would have been an exceptional save. The defence is a problem where all the experts believe Luiz is the weak link, maybe but then the fullbacks need to also close down the many passes that came across. Willian is also not contributing on attack or defence. I am sure though we can make the top 4 if Morata can score regularly. Thought everyone else played very well and the problem now is to accommodate RLC and HOD at some point going forward. Drinkwater I assume will leave. Not sure what club in Europe will take him.

The defensive problems go deeper than just the back four and those in front of the back four have to do their jobs better. I thought Barkley had a good game offensively and looks a different player already this season but Kovacic tightened up the midfield when he came on.

Having said all that I thought we played some fabulous football in the first 30 minutes and for the majority of the 2nd half.

I think Courtois might have got the fist goal but Kepa wasn’t far away from getting it and he will come on with a bit more work on the training ground. Kepa though is a much better Keeper on the ball than Courtois.

We’ll be a better team with both Hazard and Kovacic in the team, when the late returning World Cup arrivals have fully aclimatised themselves and when Sarri has had a bit more than 5/6 weeks to Coach them.

The real good news is that Morata scored a very good goal yesterday which can only help his confidence.

If we can tighten up a bit defensively I see no reason why we shouldn’t have a real shout at reclaiming our CL place. Here’s hoping so anyway.

Did not see the match as I was travelling. But from the highlight I saw: Arsenal had so many opportunities. Auba shot high, Mkhi also. Our defense was a real shamble. I think the problem is the space between the midfielders and the defenders. Arsenal players were free when their wingers or full backs crosses back. Kepa should have saved the first goal though.

I would like to see Ampadu starting. I think he would do better than Luiz. Happy with the win and as I said it wasn’t a walk in the park

NIBlue…agree that Cahill would tighten up and organise the back more. I think Christensen would as well. Maybe Sarri likes the ball playing abilities that Luiz possesses. But I fear he’s not disciplined enough to lead the defence. Would captaincy force him to play a more contained role? I don’t know.

I see Luiz more of a utility player to be honest. He can do alright in defence against the teams that are less attack minded but to me his strength would be better utilised coming on in games in the second where we have established a lead and sit him in front of a back four. He has the ability and confidence to play the ball out from back and has a good range with his passes to continue in the attacking vain, but then he adds the defensive ability making it harder for us to concede.

While Luiz has a captain quality as well as possesses good passing skills, I think it won’t be long Sarri will realize that he is often a liability in defending. I am still not convinced with Christensen. And I don’t think Cahill’s passing is anywhere near what Sarri wants. So I hope Ampadu will break into our starting 11. Or I can see Azpi playing CB with Moses as RB

Early days yet and clearly work still to be done. Possibly this is the type of football we are going to continue to see like Keegans Newcaatle many years ago…!!

Very shaky 15 minutes or so and we conceded so many chances but very pleased that we bounced back in the second half and made Petr show what he is capable of. Kovacic looked good for his cameo and so I see that midfield looking like Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic when they are all fit and settled

If Kante is going to get more forward then Jorginho has to improve defensively but remember this is only his second game in the toughest league in the world so he is also still on a learning curve

So for a team still trying to come to terms with the new formation not a bad start to the season and we should only improve as the season progresses and we have a pretty decent run of games until we play Liverpool at the end of September. KTBFFH

Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic starting with Barkley a fresh sub when the oppo tiring or we need goals. He would be a real handful. Fabulous progress with this new way of playing and great win that, coupled with United’s (Mourinho’s) loss, almost gives me as much joy.

While i agree that our CB pairing isn’t amazing, we can’t blame them for the goals/chances we conceded as time and time again Arsenal got the ball to our byline in a 15 minute spell. Im sure i mentioned it before but Alonso and Azpi aren’t the most athletic of full backs to maraud forward and more importantly double time it back to help out the defence if we are getting countered. Also Willian and Pedro needed to help out more defensively when out of possession.

Obviously in the 2nd half we improved and Arsenal didn’t really have a sniff.

I think Kante played a more defensive role second half which helped keep Arsenal quieter.

I think everyone is being really harsh on Luiz here.

The reason we struggled against Arsenal defensively is because our midfield 3 went completely missing after the 2nd goal. They were sitting right off the Arsenal midfield allowing them to play passes comfortably but not only that when those low cut back crosses were coming into our area the late runners weren’t being tracked by our midfield.

First half I thought Jorginho was great when we had possession but when we didn’t he was the worst player on the pitch by a long way. He did nothing defensively.

Morata played a little better. He got a goal which is always good but he for me he still has long way to go to win me over.

I expect 10 Premier League goals by Christmas any lower and thats not good enough.
