Good to see the return of my old sparring partner Wisefan. Try stay on here for a while now mate.

Team selection should be pretty straightforward for Everton…we just pick whoever’s left. How many bladdy injury concerns now? My starting 11 with a 4-3-3 formation if Kovacic and Willian not fit and RLC ready to start.

    Kepa
    Dave
    Rudiger
    Zouma
    Alonso
    Barkley
    Gilmour
    RLC
    Pedro
    Giroud
    Mount

If Frank goes 3 at the back then its:

    Kepa
    Zouma
    Rudiger
    Dave
    Alonso
    Reece James
    Barkley
    Gilmour
    Pedro
    Giroud
    Mount

We need our injured players to return sooner rather than later. We are in for one hell of a run in. Another thing that’s laughable is certain pundits saying that Frank should know his best 11 by now. News flash…the side has never been in a position where a full quota of players is available for selection.

This is a big match for us. Against Everton, a side who performs really well lately. We really have to win this match to pursue our aim to finish in the top. This is a tricky match, Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison are the duo on-fire. I can see FL reverting to 3-4-3 to accomodate both Reece James and Alonso. With the injuries we have and Jorginho’s suspension, I don’t think we have a lot of choice in the midfield or attack.
    My team: Willy – Rudiger,Christensen,Zouma – James,Gilmour,Mount,Alonso – Barkley,Giroud,Pedro(or Willian)

I don’t think RLC will start yet but he certainly can come in as a super-sub.

On the bases of last night’s performance, I would say we can rule out three/five at the back. I hope he plays the same back four as last night, and since there is a midfield crisis, Gilmour, Barkley and Mount is the actual choice if Kovacic isn’t available. the front three should be challenging one, 3 of our four wingers are out injured. it will interesting to see who Lampard opts to field, I guess Reece James could play in the midfield which will free Mount to play on the left-wing.

The only challenging thing that stands between us and the three points is can we replicate the performance of last night? after that magnificent performance against Spurs, the Bayern one followed and then Bournemouth and Liverpool. we don’t know which Chelsea will turn out for this match, fingers crossed the Chelsea of last night turns for this match.

Agree Wise-fan. Not sure which Chelsea will turn up against Everton. Against Bayern we can forgive as Bayern are way above our class but 2 points lost against Bournemouth were really disappointing. For me the same principle here, if we can keep our defense tight and convert the chances we have: we will win against Everton. But again Bournemouth, we did not convert our chances and we did not win.

I think Giroud deserves to start. If Willian fit, I would start him ahead of Pedro as he is more technical than speed, but really not sure about his injury.

I stick with my opinion on back 3, we cannot play back 4 with RB Reece James and LB Alonso. Just too vulnerable

Stuilse, I suspect probably the best we can hope for RLC just yet is coming on off the bench this early in his comeback after just 90 minutes for the U23’s but needs must so you never know. We could certainly do with him currently.

Based on his fitness issues, i don’t think Frank will throw Loftus Cheek straight into the action against such physical team. for sure he will play some part in that games because of our recent injuries. Frank would likely look for other options. i agree with wisefan, Frank could turn to Reece James because he has played in midfield before, and he has the physical qualities needed. to help the defence and attack.

The positive is that neither Christensen nor Jorginho are available to mess things. i don’t buy to this thing called leadership, a holding midfielder should protect the back four first before talking about creativity or other things. Zouma and Rudiger are our best CB partnership when they are told to play their game and not to pass in the box like Barcelona. they can withstand any physical contest unlike Christensen. so i suspect Frank will go with the same back four, but will change in the middle, i expect Reece James, Gilmour and Barkley to play there, and a front three of Mount, Giroud and Pedro. with Kepa in goal.

Can’t see RLC starting but I can see him getting minutes. I saw Reece James play in midfield for Wigan at Bristol City and he was very impressive and scored a great goal too he will do a very decent job in midfield if called upon imo.

We have little margin for error now. we have lost an opportunity to get a day light between us and the chasing pack last week and to close the gap on Leicester. but this game is much tougher that the obe we have dropped points last week. i would have taken a point in tgis game and won the Bournemouth game. but bow we are under presssure to win this game now. especially now that our biggest rivals United are playing against City.

Who will play in midfield now that Jorginho is suspended, Kocacic and Kante are injured, RLC is lacking match fitness? i saw people suggest Reece James as one possible option, and that is not a bad choice to have. i can see Frank sticking Mount to play in the wing and let Barkley carry on in the middle. and if Barkley can produce half of what he has done against Liverpool, i can see us winning that midfield battle.

Giroud is the actual choice here, but the only regret will be, if Reece James plays in the middle, who will put crosses as Azpi is poor in crossing?

Chelseaman, I think the starting eleven picks itself based on the principle of the last man standing.😊

I saw James play in midfield for Wigan v Bristol City at Ashton Gate and he was excellent and scored a great goal.

I think he can still deliver crosses from right midfield but Frank could go 3/4/2/1 again with exactly the same players with James as the right wing back.

Best performance this season by far and we still have likes of Pulisic, RLC, Odio, Jorginho, Christiansen, Abraham, Kante, Kovacic to come in or to compete.

Wow, that midfield performance has given Frank plenty to think about. The same goes for our forward three…Willian and Pedro were superb and thrived alongside Gifoud. Gilmour was again sensational and for me has to start irrespective of Kante, Kovacic or Jorginho returning. Rudiger was immense in defence and Kepa was solid. Pity that Utd won but top 4 still very much in our hands.

Interesting result it has exceeded beyond my expectation. I would have taken a scrappy 1-0 but credit to the boys for that marvellous performance. I thought Pedro had an outstanding game today, I have to give him credit to him for his performance. I like how he runs behind the defenders. and I was one of his biggest critics, his last two games have been outstanding. also, he started to run in behind defences which gives our midfielders the chance to spot him.

I have also been impressed by Ross Barkley, credit to him for how he has turned his season. his last two games have been outstanding. three assists and a goal is fantastic. I was also one of his critics but if he keeps like this performance, he will be one of the best midfielders in the world. and I’m also pleased to see Mount score for the first time in 19 league games. how much confidence will that goal give him? I think that goal is huge for him.

Interesting that several players are hitting form at a crucial stage of the season, players like Barkley, Mount, Willian, Rudiger, Pedro and Giroud are hitting form at a crucial time. and the young Gilmour is our answer to Bruno Fernandez. he is given the whole team a lift. I saw Roy Keane praise him, and you don’t see often Roy praise people and more so a young player. so this young man must be doing something special.

    Good summary Chelseaman.

The performances and form that the likes of Barkley, Pedro, Willian, Alonso and Giroud have shown over the last few games together with young Billy Gilmour have been a major plus and Willian looks deserving of a new contract as suddenly do Pedro and Giroud?

Barkley looked a Summer seller to me but his recent performances suggest that might be a mistake now.

I wouldn’t write anyone out of next season’s squad just yet.

The injuries have stretched us but as the injured players begin to return the squad and the team will be even stronger.

    Every Cloud……..😊

This is the best Chelsea performance under Lampard. It was a risky formation as it was too attacking (Alonso, Mount, Barkley played together with Willian and Pedro) but we won the match convincingly. Probably Everton had an off day too but we played really well. We did not give them opportunity except the mistake that Rudiger made to allow Richarlison won the ball and then Calvert-Lewin shot just wide. Willian and Pedro were amazing, the first time those 2 together really looked menacing for the opposition together with Giroud who linked up very well and got his goal too. My MoM would be Barkley, he was controlling the midfield but Billy Gilmour, what a solid performance.

Unfortunately, our closest competitor for the top 4 Man Utd won, an off day of Ederson to allow 2 goals like that. They have a fairly easier fixtures than us. But 1 match at a time, hopefully we can continue our good runs against Aston Villa next weekend. A great victory today, a convincing win

Fantastic performance by the boys who played yesterday. time and time it has proven that attack is our best form of defence. and when our players attack consistently, the result is devastating. there was no sideway or back passes yesterday. all of our players were forward-thinking. and credit goes to Billy Gilmour who reminded me of Paul Scholes. his movement and passing have been superior to all of our midfielders. and his brain has been superior also.

Mason Mount has been on an imperious form yesterday, he was running from deep to give Chelsea an extra man in the box, something we never had before. I thought he deserved man of the match more than Gilmour. but still, I’m happy for Gilmour also. Barkley seems to have rediscovered his football passion now, he been devastating for Everton yesterday, even their fans gave up on booing him. but I won’t be counting my chicks earlier, let him do this for the rest of the season.

I should also give credit to the older generation. in particular, Pedro who has been fantastic yesterday. also, Willian was excellent yesterday, I don’t often say that, but yesterday he has earned this. and Giroud is showing why we should keep him at the club beyond this summer. the Zouma and Rudiger Partnership is working well, for now, both of them are 1.9m which gives them height advantage. and Kepa is doing good, although he is still fragile. now we set the bar higher, can we maintain this for the rest of the season?

Good performance yesterday but Everton made it so easy – they did not turn up. If Calvert-Lewin scores that chance, it would have been squeeky bum time. Luckily he fluffed it and we went on to kill the game off.

Still a lot of work to be done on the training ground and in summer with transfers.

    Great Performance.

Thats the kind of performance you get when you play 2 attack minded players in the midfield three rather than Jorginho/Kante/Kovacic.

Barkley and Mount were my favourite players from the game. I agree with Nine I think we should give Barkley 1 more season as his form in he last few games has improved greatly.

Giroud was a nuisance all afternoon for Everton and got a deserved goal. Pedro and Willian were sharp and played with great work rates, precision and quality.

Lastly Gilmour shone again. I would 100% sell Jorginho in the summer there is something I don’t like about his personality he is always joking/messing around when I see him in training and then spends most of his playing time waving his arms around pointing. Also he is a system player and not versatile at all. Gilmour has been a breath of fresh air in the middle.

Barkley – Not for me. i’d use his 2 performances to get more money from buyers and buy a player that will actually create plenty of chances rather than sit here in a years time and see the same player we have seen the past 2 seasons and moan.

2 games doesn’t make a player good, about 2 seasons does and barkley has had 1 good game and 1 average game (liverpool) where he scored a good goal.

A lot of posters tend to get carried away – if we scroll through posts back in September, everyone said there is no need for a CB, everyone now realises that our best CB is good but not as good as first thought (Rudiger), also everyone was praising Emerson – how bad is he?
