There is no doubt that our last game at home was disasterous one. And several factors have contributed, chief among them being a weak midfield, Alonso atbLB and and Werner in front of him. I fully expect Thomas Tuchel to rectify thise mistakes. Back 3 will be the order of the day. Here is my predicted team: Mendy, Christensen, Silva, Rudiger, Azpi, Jorginho, Kovacic, Alonso, Ziyech, Lukaku, Mount. We expect a response from the players they owe us. One thing that is good is that the away goals have been abolished. Let us hope we win this one, if we lose this one, i will never start a thread.😊
April 4, 2022 at 11:59 am #2078774I don’t think we will start ziyech unless it’s a back 4. It’s seems that for weeks now that when he plays it’s 433 with him right wing.
April 4, 2022 at 1:00 pm #2078804oh no young_blue started this thread.
I am not going on Wednesday now.Joking aside, YB you are right the players need to respond.
I would start Reece and Kai.April 4, 2022 at 10:05 pm #2078964I have seen a lot of people say the reason we lost was due to the formation we have deployed. I think the problem is not the formation, the problem was the tactics and the personnel. We were too slow in moving the ball, too sluggish in closing spaces, and we have paid the ultimate price. Brentford took advantage of our mistakes. I think 4-3-3 is an excellent formation and it serves well for the majority of big teams in the Premier league and in Europe. Our coach didn’t take that game seriously and the personnel he has selected proved.
I think selecting players with pace will be key. For full backs, I think Reece, James has to play at RB/RWB if our coach players back five. Jorginho and Kovacic will give us a bite in midfield. Also, Lukaku has to play in the striker role. Concentration will be key in this game.
April 4, 2022 at 10:57 pm #2078985My preferred line up would be Mendy – Christensen, Silva, Rudiger – James, Jorginho, Kante, Azpi – Pulisic, Havertz, Mount
April 5, 2022 at 2:44 am #2078996This will be tougher than the Real we faced last season. We need to be at our absolute best. Tuchel rested certain players on the weekend with this match in mind and it cost us against Brentford. Expecting a major form reversal to that of the weekend and a decent result I think we can win by the odd goal however not sure that will be enough to win the tie and progress.
April 5, 2022 at 1:52 pm #2079227I have to say our result against Brentford makes me really worried about this tie. Surely Real Madrid at the moment are much stronger than the one we faced last season. I think the key would be to shut off Benzema. He is on-fire, our centre backs must be absolutely careful.
It’s not impossible, but it’s gonna be really difficult. Especially the 2nd leg would be in front of their fans. However, we should focus on this 1st leg first and get the maximum we could get. If we win with 2 goals margin, I think we can be optimistic to advance. Our defense must be steel tight, can’t allow anything like Brentford. I suggest to start Lukaku as he tends to do better against European oppositions than against Premier League oppositions. I am reluctant to start Alonso, but if we revert to back 3, there will be no other obvious choice
My team: Mendy – Christensen,Silva,Rudiger – James,Kanté,Kovacic,Alonso – Ziyech,Lukaku,Mount
April 6, 2022 at 8:26 pm #2079832I took a day off to watch this match and we are not on top of our game. Christensen is our weak link, it’s shown since the beginning that Vinicius outspeeds him all the time. Benzema, what a player. Not sure about our defense honestly. And Kante is clearly not at his best, he rarely wins any ball today. Really disappointed with our display today. Hopefully we can salvage something from this match
April 6, 2022 at 8:40 pm #2079845All you can do is put out your best possible side and they hopefully do the business. There is no relevance between this result and performance so far and that against Brentford. We have simply been undone by two pieces of Real genius. Let’s hope they can take a foothold in the match and bring us back into the tie. As I type that Havertz scores and its 1-2.
April 6, 2022 at 8:44 pm #2079849Wow, should be 1-3 with Benzema missing a sitter. You are right Christensen is well short of a gallop and getting exposed while Reece James is also off the pace but still offering a threat on the offensive down that right.
April 6, 2022 at 9:04 pm #2079860Total Mendy f……up and that’s that 1-3 and Benzema hatrick. What’s gone wrong with him the last few weeks?
April 6, 2022 at 9:06 pm #2079861what did we do….. Benzema did not need a gift to score and Mendy gave him a gift. I think we’re finished here. Real to the semi. Can’t see otherwise honestly
April 6, 2022 at 9:09 pm #2079864Well at least there is no away goals rule this year 😂
April 6, 2022 at 9:12 pm #2079865Yes, in trouble. Now I do wonder if the carryings on with the sale of the club is catching up with and distracting the players in any way. Lucky where are you? What do you make of all this?
April 6, 2022 at 9:13 pm #2079866Disastrous set up by the coach! why insist on playing a player who is not comfortable in playing that position. And why insist on a keeper who is not good at his feet to play the ball. I said this playing from the back will come back to bite us.
April 6, 2022 at 9:19 pm #2079873I agree that the sale of the club may impact our players. Tuchel did not even celebrate when Havertz scored. Unfortunately we are in this situation. Lukaku has to come in. We need a big figure up front.
April 6, 2022 at 9:21 pm #2079875Why RLC??? He will just slow things up
April 6, 2022 at 9:27 pm #2079883Lukaku two chances in two minutes the second one he had to score. Mount chance just over the top. Put on your seatbelts. They are not going to die wondering.
April 6, 2022 at 9:31 pm #2079885Mendy really isn’t comfortable tonite with his feet. I hope at least we can score 1 to reduce the deficit???
April 6, 2022 at 9:36 pm #207989167, not sure bud, you would think it would have some effect but results up until the weekend suggested we were getting on with it.
To be fair we haven’t been playing well for over 4 months now though so despite our recent good run we rarely looked comfortable and there has been an awkwardness about our team.
I think Tuchel has been struggling to find balanced team game to game due to a number of reasons and we are nowhere near the team that beat Real last year when you contrast the relative players avaliable and their relative form
