Nail biting match in store for Liverpool fans, pretty much the story of this season. Yesterday’s victory may not be a significant boost but a loss would have been catastrophic, and it is likely that Klopp can put behind thoughts of the PL and concentrate fully on this difficult tie.
First leg result puts Real in the driving seat but I’m not discarding our chances to make a come back. Much has been said about out CB’S but on the whole think our fans have been too harsh on them, and fully expect Real to score again, with relative ease. It’s almost as if they had to completely shut the barn door and not let Benzema and co have any shots on goal to earn praise, whereas IMO they were not brilliant but did well in the circumstances. Bayern vs PSG finished with five goals scored and no one will call the CB’S on the pitch sub standard. Navas also made three or four good saves, so at this stage of the competition it is to be expected that teams will create five or six good chances. Hope Alisson is at his best on Wednesday.
Tactically I would almost wish that Klopp starts the game in a cautious manner, as Real will try to hit us on the counter, especially as the right side is vulnerable. So Trent and Robbo to concentrate first and foremost on their defensive duties.
The team I would prefer is the one which started against Villa with the exception of Thiago in for Gini and Jones in for Milner. Thiago is vastly experienced in the CL and Bayern may have missed him on Wednesday. A double pivot with Fab would be an assurance that Real find it more difficult to score at Anfield, Jones to help us keep the ball, and with Fabinho be up for the physical battle with the six footers Kroos and Caseimiro. He is also young and fit and can help to make our press better than in Spain.
Bobby upfront because as much as I would like him to be in the box in normal circumstances, I would like him to have his usual drop off in midfield to make it more difficult for Real midfielders to ping the ball from left to right with ease. If we manage to score a goal in the first half then we will be in a very good position but 0-0 would not be bad. We will then have to increase the pressure gradually with the introduction of Mane and Jota in the second half.
April 11, 2021 at 9:27 am #1942124Last sentence introduction of Mane, as Jota is already on the pitch in my preferred starting line up.
April 11, 2021 at 9:48 am #1942128I’ll be up front from the start here. I don’t expect us to go through here. Our current form as a team, various individuals form, lack of fans, being 3-1 down, can’t see us keeping a clean sheet all point to us going out. I’m all for optimism but I’m a bigger proponent of realism. People may point to the Barca game 2yrs ago but these 2 situations are chalk and cheese for me.
Having said that I do think we’ll go for it. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Klopp went for a 4-2-3-1 to get 4 attackers on the pitch from the start. It allows for that bit more protection at the back so we don’t have to play that high line.
I’ll go for…
Allison
TAA, Philips, Kabak, Robbo
Thiago, Fabinho
Mane, Firmino, Jota
SalahApril 11, 2021 at 12:12 pm #1942172Ye can’t see us getting through here. We are not playing good enough and no crowd really is a kick in the balls.
Like that team ginger. Mane really is lacking in confidence. You could it clearly yday when he went through on goal. He needed to bury that to give him a lift.
I just wanna see us really press these from the off. Get in their faces and not make it comfortable for them at all
Not expecting much but let’s give them a game
April 11, 2021 at 3:37 pm #1942260Vasquez is now out (along with Ramos, Varane and Hazard) which leaves them issues at right back (with their regular being out too).
But, as we saw last week, it really doesn’t seem to make much difference. They are still a very good side and we aren’t playing well enough to fully exploit that.
With their problems at right back I think Klopp will stick Mane on that side with Bobby and Mo completing the trio up top. Gini, Thiago and Fab as the three in mid. Usual 5 at the back. I’m not expecting anything other than a 433 and us to concede.
I’m going for goals but Madrid to prevail 5 or 6-3 or 4 on aggregate.
April 11, 2021 at 3:40 pm #1942263Oh, bollocks to it, what’s the point in predicting a Madrid win? I’m going for 4-1 to us so balls to y’all!
April 11, 2021 at 3:55 pm #1942271Honestly I don’t really care if we go through or not. The only thing I want to see is the players fighting for their lives. If they can’t even do that, they can fuck off in the summer. It’s all well and good claiming you’re mentality giants when the going is good. Now’s the time to fucking show it.
April 11, 2021 at 4:34 pm #1942299Ye razor wanna see a bit of fight. Show you care
That’s all I want to see. Can accept losing but show you give a fuck
April 11, 2021 at 4:56 pm #1942313On current form I cant see us keeping them out for 90 mins. And that means we would need to score 3 to have a chance of taking it to extra time. Dont really see that happening either. But I’m going to go for an optimistic 2-0 to us with an early goal by Salah and a late one by Jota.
April 11, 2021 at 6:05 pm #1942384I think we win the game but get knocked out. 2-1 probably 2-2
No chance of a clean sheet so it’s pretty much curtains for us in the CL this season. Need to somehow get top 4April 11, 2021 at 6:39 pm #1942404Rarely I want United to win but today was one of those days and they did. Another good result for us. Shame Leicester didn’t show up until the last couple of minutes otherwise they could have got something at West Ham.
April 11, 2021 at 7:42 pm #1942422Yea Rob that result was a bit of a blow.
Out of the 3 possible results in that match a West Ham win was the worst for us.April 11, 2021 at 7:51 pm #1942427I don’t think West Ham winning is a bad result for us at all. West Han have to play Everton and Chelsea. Newcastle who are fighting to stay up away. Chelsea are going to sow up the top 4. They are in great form. I think Leicester can be caught and their last 3 games are tough and tricky away game at Southampton .West Ham have to play chelsea. I’m hoping Leicester collapse like last season. West Ham are still there but I think they roll fall away.
We really need to worry about ourselves and we can only drop a few points. We need to keep winning. I really thought we were out of this. I think we need to win 6 of our last 7 ganes. We have a chance that seemed well gone few weeks ago.
Everton keep dropping points and spurs are just dreadful. They play each other next week.
For me it’s city, utd, Chelsea and another.
April 11, 2021 at 10:32 pm #1942452Leicesters top 4 spot is theirs to lose.
The top 3 teams haven’t changed in weeks. That’s not to say they won’t.
West Ham is our direct rival, as is Chelsea, for that 4th spot.
Any time either of those teams take full points makes our job all the more harder. We can’t just worry about ourselves. We could win all our remaining games and still lose out. We need our direct rivals to drop points.
Chelsea’s run in isn’t too easy either and as we seen from last week they can drop points too. Leicester could drop outta the top 4 but they’re closer to top 4 safety than Chelsea.
A draw woulda been nice today.
April 12, 2021 at 8:23 am #1942481When I mean worry about ourselves ginger, I mean we need to keep winning. If we miss out on the top 4, it can’t be because we are dripping silly points
My belief is Chelsea will finish above Leicester and I’m looking at catching them. Chelsea look a proper side now. Leicester Fell away last season.
West Ham are in an unknown position. I’m expecting to fall away. Fat points on Chelsea ganes but they look the best side in the league at the minutev
April 12, 2021 at 12:20 pm #1942554It’s not impossible that we might go through, I just don’t see it. We aren’t playing with any passion and TBH that’s what it would take to over-turn this result. I’ll watch the match and I’ll hope but I will not expect.
Klopp really needs to just go for it. Play the players who will press the most, start Jota. That’s our only chance.
April 12, 2021 at 12:52 pm #1942564Does Jota really warrant to be held in such high regard? Sure he has scored a few but his link up play isn’t great. He’s good at pressing in front of him but doesn’t do enough going back. I’m sure if Firmino played in the first leg he wouldn’t of just stood and admired Kroos hit that long ball for the first goal.
I think it depends on Mane who has been woeful recently. I would play Firmino and then have a decision between Mane or Jota for the left.
April 12, 2021 at 1:42 pm #1942580If it’s a front 3 then it’s an easy decision.
Jota, Firmino, Salah.Mané has been terrible for months now.
I’d be inclined to go for a front 4 though.
April 12, 2021 at 4:15 pm #1942637I would be happy with a front 4. Ensure Firmino is in their face whenever one of their deep lying playmaker get the ball. The other 3 keep swapping. For the 2 in midfield it would have to be Fab and Thiago as a double six. Something both played with with their previous clubs I think.
April 12, 2021 at 9:56 pm #1942730Im with you there Razor. I still maintain that they should have shown this in the first half of the last match and have essentially thrown the tie but there’s an outside chance for them to make a comeback.
