Euros postponed until 2021, the leagues will run out in June and July I’d say. Break in August and possibly start again in September. They’re all contractually bound to run the season, could suffer millions if not billions in losses if the league, CL and EL aren’t finished. They’ll try their damnedest to get things done, even if it means playing behind closed doors. They’ll need to put some games on free to air if that’s the case. Either give some to the BBC and ITV or just show them on Sky One

The longer the leagues break for the more need there will be for a mini pre-season. I’m not sure that the leagues will be able to just start once this is over. No matter what training the players are currently doing, they won’t be match fit by the time the league returns. This will add an extra delay to completing the remaining fixtures. It’s going to be difficult to finish this season and complete next season before Euro ’21.

Killyboye- depends on what you mean by contractually bound to finish the season. I don’t think anyone is.

However BT and sky have contracts to show certain number of matches. Clubs will lose the TV revenue if they aren’t played.

If matches go on free the air then that might break the sky and BT contract also.

Whatever people do is going to be wrong.

To finish the league they have to break certain rules (one is that the league is finished by May 31st) as soon as we make new rules to navigate the old in the middle of a season it opens a can of worms.

UEFA also have contracts for CL and EL matches on tv so they may prefer those matches first. A round robin tournament of who is left in it played over a week or two and held in one or two cities (to save time and not have fans travel). But that will upset others.

Swiss Ramble (google him if you don’t know who he is) has just done an excellent, but complicated, piece on football finances and the Coronavirus.

Lower down clubs are generally in more difficultly. PL clubs will be hit hard, but lower division will be hit far harder.

Why start of a new season when you can’t finish the current one. Many LFC rival wanted the season null and void. I don’t see this going to happen, like what u’ll said TV revenue and the big part of the games is the bookie. Those who bet on certain teams…for example people bet on LFC to win the league, million or billions bets out there.Certain gambler are going to win big. You guys think can just null and void? Just another 9 games, finish it and see what happen.

I can’t see anyone deciding to restart the season so that bookies can pay out on winning bets. Completely crazy idea.

Null and void the season so that next season can start on time and be unaffected, or as unaffected as reasonably possible.

We cannot possibly finish this season and have 500k fans congregating in Liverpool centre when they win the leagues, fans out celebrating would make a mockery of the lockdown and stretch the police to it’s limits at a time when they are already overloaded. It’s just not sensible, and would be really unsafe.

Other top leagues have done the same, so I think we need to face up to reality.

Null and void the season so that next season can start on time and be unaffected, or as unaffected as reasonably possible?? This make no sense at all.Rival aside.

    1) Null and Void this seasons and start a new one. Same situation happen, Null and Void next season? This Virus keep coming back so every season null and void? Not effective at all. All season only played half cooked.

    2) Scrap season 20/21, use this period of time to finish the remaining EPL 9games and is only 9games, Europa, CL or maybe Euro. Start a fresh 21/22 seasons. With this plan you can answer all your contracts, TV rights, Sponsors Bets. All contracts fulfilled.

    3) Parade trophy can do later or just telecast in the stadium for all winning team.
With this plan is fair to every club.If this year can’t finish the season wait till you can.

@alfie07 You or anyone here can list down if you guys have a better plan. Stop all the bullshit excuses of saving life because of the Virus.Life is more important bla bla bla.

Finish the league if at all possible. If nescesary, cancel FA cup, change European games to one leg instead of two, allow 5 or 7 substitutions to be made during games to reduce the affect of accumulation of games

Personally was of the opinion that the season should be null and voided if the season doesn’t resume before the original scheduled last day of the season, which it won’t be. Small shops are currently struggling to get the green light to be opened, Japan and Singapore have had a set back from trying to return to normality before it was ready to do so. The world is in a state of global lockdown and about 4,000 people are still dying at a daily rate. And those are the recorded deaths. Imagine the numbers if events like sports and festivals were to resume.

Now, if we were to go against common sense and try to cling to our previous lives, then for the season to be resumed, I think matches should be played at only 4 selected neutral stadiums to limit travel. All matches played behind closed doors. Hotels around those stadiums are to be designated to players and players quarentined to their rooms except for their matches – and testing of their condition every four hours, before matches and at extended half-time breaks, and at full time. There should be no limits to the number of substitutions and the substitution bench should also have no limit – use the whole squad. If a player feels ill, get him off the pitch straight away.

If that wasn’t enough to get the green light for football to commence, then I’d go a step further in my proposal and see if matches could be played at oversea venues to limit the chance of hometown supporters congregating outside the stadiums. I’d also suggest the the matches would be recorded but not broadcast live and only shown on TV when the government declares it safe to do so considering the mass gatherings Liverpool winning the league would create.

Oh, and all of this is just for the Premiership. Never mind the Championship, the lower leagues, domestic cup competitions and continental competitions that also need to be considered.

As you can see, it’s ridiculous to attempt any of this while trying to keep in line with restrictions that are designed and in place to save lives. And life has to move on, so I’m afraid that if we aren’t willing to go to the extreme for football to commence again during this pandemic, then this season should be null and voided and we go again afresh when safe to do so.

Must be absolutely terrible being a Liverpool fan right now. (And for the last 30 years!)
