Postpone Euro 2020 until next summer and don’t start a new season until the current one is completed.
March 17, 2020 at 8:19 pm #1835607The league is starting up again after June… with the Euros and Copa America scheduled for next year…
March 18, 2020 at 5:34 pm #1835766I have my doubts that we’ll see any football before next September or October if even then Bingo.
UEFA’s proclamation that all Leagues should be completed by the end of June and setting the CL and the EL Finals for the end of June is beyond optimistic imo.
Whatever happens though Liverpool have won the PL title and rightfully so be it 29 games played or 38 games played .
March 18, 2020 at 9:01 pm #1835798lets wait and see… what I don’t get is why they don’t reschedule the copa and the euros for feb when the afcons are?
March 19, 2020 at 3:35 pm #1835915No footy now til at least 30 April. Christ.
March 20, 2020 at 7:36 am #1835984Well we can always fill the time to debate whether Hendersom can kick a football straight
March 27, 2020 at 1:10 pm #1837285I’ve just got this feeling/vibe that I don’t footy will restart April 30. Too much shit’s going down.
March 27, 2020 at 4:08 pm #1837320I doubt it but we might still finish the season as the April 30 deadline was made before the euros were cancelled but it’s not gonna happen until the summer.
This might be the perfect opportunity for a few of the lads to get fit finally, Keita for example who had an abysmal injury record last season, he pushed himself over the limit in a race to get fit again. Shaqiri as well who has a worse record.
March 29, 2020 at 7:18 am #1837483I’d say our chances of finishing the league at all are slim TBH. The virus is spreading like wildfire through many countries, just look at America. The death rates are really going up now, as we’re seeing many people ill for 2 weeks or more.
I don’t think people in general have been responsible enough and I wonder if we took action too late. The virus is more infectious than previously thought and with carriers potentially showing no symptoms for a week or so, it’s just going to be very difficult to flatten the curve enough for the virus to eradicated or at least under control.
We can hope but lads, keep yourselves safe and be responsible because the vulnerable are depending on the healthy.
March 30, 2020 at 1:51 pm #1837714Hi, all hope you guys are all ok & staying safe!
March 30, 2020 at 4:54 pm #1837757I agree Mak, I just cannot see games starting more from a moralistic standpoint than anything even behind closed doors. Just hope we still get awarded the league title but it would not surprise at all if the season is abandoned. Like I said previously, it could only happen to us. If United or City were top we’d be re-starting games this weekend.
March 31, 2020 at 6:03 pm #1837930None of the solutions are easy:
1. Award Liverpool the league and settle the other positions with expected points calculations: This could face legal challenges from the clubs
2. Void the league: Same as above some clubs could take the PL to court but also it would prompt SKY, BT AND overseas TV companies to demand a large refund from the PL. Also it would possibly weaken the strength of the PL for future rights.
3. Play behind closed doors: Morally unethical? It is doable but extremely difficult in practice, would need to be a perfect operation. Players would have to be tested before games, what do you do if one player is tested positive? Do you isolate one player or the whole team even if the other players are negative?
4. Continue the season into autumn/fall: Would-be issue with players contracts who have expired and could mess up future tournaments and next season.
People are talking about voiding the league but I think that would severely upset the PL. sure the top clubs could navigate that one but if PL has to refund all the TV companies around the world that would be a massive amount of money. Some clubs have already spent some of that cash, a refund would be damaging for some smaller teams.
I’m an advocate of waiting to finish the league as at least we would have a completed the season. We could be in a situation where we could void the league and then still not be able to start the next season which to me is an even worse mess. Oh well as I said no easy answer.March 31, 2020 at 6:49 pm #1837948On point 3, why would you isolate the rest of the team if 1 person has tested positive but everyone else negative?
What does that achieve?
They’ve already been tested and shown to be negative.March 31, 2020 at 7:09 pm #1837951Ginger, not to be gross but some patients have had viral particles in their waste even when tested negative through the usual means. If one has it then you have to quarantine/self isolate.
March 31, 2020 at 9:00 pm #1837998Ginger I thought the same thing originally but this is what has been happening, 1 person gets a positive and the entire team goes into isolation even if they are negative…that’s why there have been the suggestion that the teams will live in a PL camp at St Georges, but even that idea sounds fanciful as Im not sure St Georges can accommodate the entire football entorage of Pl clubs.
March 31, 2020 at 10:30 pm #1838015Rob, as long as they’re not playing with each other shit they should be good.
Every team should get tested.
Those negative isolate as a group or their household also gets tested and then isolates.
Team that are clear can play each other behind closed doors.
I guess that some way to work it.April 1, 2020 at 9:33 am #1838044Rob, as long as they’re not playing with each
Any pics/videos?
April 1, 2020 at 3:45 pm #1838168mufc, LOL! Sounds very Dick Emery-ish doesn’t it?
April 1, 2020 at 3:46 pm #1838169So the Champions League and Europa are postponed indefinitely. I’d be absolutely flabbergasted and amazed if the Premier League restarts.
