Diego Costa has now been hit with a further one match ban for improper conduct v Everton in the FA Cup tie to be served concurrent with his current 2 match ban he has also been fined £20,000 and warned about his future conduct. Costa will now miss both Villa and Swansea away but will be back for the big games v City, Spurs and Leicester at home and Liverpool away. Let’s hope he takes his frustrations out on in them all in the shape of goals!

Now whilst I fully admit Costa can be his own worst enemy at times you can’t help feeling that both the media and the FA have got it in for him and you wonder whether this all might well play a part in his thinking as to whether he stays or goes in the summer despite Conte allegedly wanting him to stay.

999.. Im beyond caring about him and his childish inability to control his temper… the guy is clearly thick as the bread you spread your jam on. Good riddance in the summer is all I can say.

Im looking forward to the new man coming in and clearing the decks with the churlish tosh wearing the shirt. hope he sorts the wheat from the kids and dumps some star names to set an example.

RDP – think that is unfair

Yes, he was acting petulaent under Jose but that appears to be because of how he was being treated by Jose

Since the arrival of Hiddink he has been at the top of his game until the Everton match when he was not fit, not getting any decent service and was being kicked

Of course he should not react but this charge is simply for not leaving the pitch in a timely manner – which he correctly pleaded guilty to

For me, so long as his performances mirror those under Hiddink and not Jose, then I would want him to stay

My fear is that his treatment from the FA and media smacks very much of Suarez which eventually drove him out. KTBBFH

I feel nothing for him he wants to act like an idiot then he must bear the consequences however it is a problem for the team as we dont have decent strikers at the moment so he is inflicting pain on the team, club and supporters besides himself by behaving the way he does.

1905… No, Im not, You’re making excuses for a fully grown adult, paid millions to act professionally at all times. I don’t think you can say that about Costa in any shape or form this season. If he had showed half the interest in scoring goals in the first half of the season we would be in the top four, his lack of effort have cost the club next season, he’s been awful in the champions league for two seasons, no excuses. Why have Diego when players with attitudes like Drogba exist in the game. Came back overweigh and unfit and then categorically refused to play for the club, never mind the manager. Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you. Ditch the Bit** ASAP as that type of character is poison in a dressing room no matter how good they are on their day.

It’s about time the refs and FA came down hard on the professionals, the respect campaign should have been top down, not the doomed to fail bottom up method they chose….Pagan

Hmhh some strong views perhaps not unexpectedly, imo Costa is letting the club his team mates and the fans down by getting involved in some of the things he does and I think Roman is right about Costa coming back to the club overweight and not trying for almost half a season as his form since Hiddink’s arrival underlines.

It’s a very fine balancing act for the new Manager because Costa on his game and focussed without the nonsense is a major asset and getting a strikers as good as him to replace him won’t be easy and very expensive but equally you can’t be losing your one and only striker for circa 20% of the PL season.

Costa imo is now a marked man by the media, the FA, the Referee’s and linesmen, the opposition players and the opposition Managers.

He needs to play on the edge otherwise he won’t be the same player but the new Manager will need to work on him playing within the rules too if he’s going to stay at Chelsea and significantly contribute because everybody else has got it in for him and he is at times sadly his own worst enemy.

    Over to you Toni?

Parallels to be drawn on the Suarez in his Liverpool days
He manufactured his way out, has he once been out of order since he signed for Barca, no, just a top top player and squeaky clean.

Feel the same is happening with Costa, never really settled and will use media refs opposing players etc to get his move back to Spain
Personally see a big chance he ends up at Real Madrid next season.

    999. Yes replacing Costa will cost money, but it would cost clubs a lot to buy him, circa 60- 70 million? Brilliant at times, but in the modern day game, with the levels of professionalism required. He’s fallen well short this year and it has cost the club, and us supporters a chance to see the big teams playing at the bridge next season and given the club redevelopment, might cost us more long term. The big nights at the bridge, something some of the players don’t care that much about as they’ll probably be handing in transfer requests, or their agents are currently seeking out potential moves. I’d take a season in the doldrums if it meant getting rid of players who don’t care enough about the club and the new manager can forge a new team spirit. Only issue is if he makes a total hash of it…

Roman, difficult to disagree with mate. I guess in the final analysis it will all come down to how the new Manager sees things. Cheers 999
