Best we have played this year, special mention to Fabinho who hadn’t played well for a while, he was brilliant & also credit to Gomez who didn’t put a foot wrong good with his defence & good passing.

I do feel sorry for Keita he played well v Everton & Wiji didn’t but still got the nod.

All the players did well but I do wish Firmino would do some scoring his minutes of play per goals is very poor. Elliott & especially Williams looked very good.

    Another day, another record.

Palace didn’t get a single touch inside our box, first time that’s ever been recorded since Opta started tracking.

Well that was the first of those ifs and buts crossed off and how! A very impressive performance tonight. Bubbly cooling in the fridge. Hopefully by this time tomorrow there won’t be much of it left!

Tonight could be the night we are finally crowned champions.

If that happens, then time to move on and take our game to a whole new level, focussing on trying to win PL and CL next season.

In addition to remaining unbeaten for the rest of this season, of course

    Same here Roger.
As soon as that game finished last night I put a bottle of bubbly in the fridge to chill.

Don’t even think I’m gonna watch the game tonight. Think I’ll go out cycling for a few hours instead and come to maybe catch some of the 2nd half.

What a performance by our lads last night!
Up there with one of the best home performances this season.

Now all we need is Larouci or Lewis to come through on the left and we absolutely won’t need to sign anyone. Who needs Werner when we have Elliot! The kids are alright..

Fabinho had a bit of a dodgy first 10 minutes against Everton and I was beginning to think ‘he’s continuing how he left off in March’; but after that and last night in particular, he has been excellent. Must be the ‘Brazilian’ in him coming out and excelling as the mercury rises well into the mid 20s!

Putting too much pressure/expectation on Elliot. The lads literally still in school.
He looks an amazing prospect, but that’s what he is still…a prospect.

Look at the difference of our performance when we had Salah back compared to Everton. Not saying he’s the only reason but as Klopp admitted himself he provides width and depth to stretch an opposition.
At the min none of our “backups” to our front 3 are good enough IMO. When we have an injury to a front 3 player our performance level drops markedly more often than not.
While no guarantee with Werner he’s off a higher calibre than any of our current “backups”.
I believe there’s still a gap there that needs filled. Particularly if we go on to sell Origi and Shaq.

Razor, Elliot still has a long, long way to go, and I still have doubts about him because of his size, though I think he is still growing.

But I will be happy to be proved wrong if he can make it as a top player.

Having said that, I can see Jones breaking through before him

Ginger, quite right, Elliott is just a prospect, who may or may not make it. A bit like Wilson.

We definitely need a player who is close to our regular front 3 in quality, and who can take over at the same level when one of them leaves.

Minamino was bought for this purpose, and Brewster is one for the future, but we still need a flexible forward with pace who can slot in seamlessly – most likely a younger player who does not need mind not starting every game

My honest opinion is that we should sign David Silva for a season or 2 since he’s a free agent. He’s equally capable on the wing or through the centre and has a lot he can offer to the likes of Jones and Elliot. Another experienced and influential figure at the club wouldn’t hurt.

Also, if you’re good enough, you’re old enough. The likes of Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo broke through when they were teenagers and not much older than Elliot so I don’t buy this notion that they aren’t ready for the big time. If anything they need the experience to develop now. TAA needed a while to get going but a couple years later, he’s regarded as one of the best RBs in the world.

In my opinion Elliot is not ready to play in the PL, though he may be ready in the future.

And he’s definitely not in the same calibre as TAA

My point is that you can only be ready if you’re exposed to it regularly. Playing with lads your own age and not of the calibre in the reserve league doesn’t do much. There’s a wealth of experience and knowledge to be gained from playing and training alongside top class players instead. I just think that if we absolutely wanted Werner, we could have struck some sort of deal for him, maybe even similar to the Keita one, or in instalments. I think Klopp has had looked at these guys over the break and decided they are the best way forward.

    I don’t think that’s it at all.

Liverpool have furloughed staff and have asked other staff to take a pay cut.
How can they then justify to them spending £45-50mil plus 200k a week in wages for Werner?
Not to mention how those wages would mess with our current player wage structure.

The “good enough if he’s old enough” argument works if he’s good enough.
    He’s not. Not now.
Not to play backup to Mane or Salah at the min.

He’s a fantastic prospect. Klopps very good at developing young players. Leave the weight of expectation of playing and performing for the best team in the world off his shoulders for the time being.

So does that mean we can’t sign other players ever then? Like I said, we could have worked something out with Leipzig if we really wanted him considering the leverage of a release clause, even if he wouldn’t be here next season. Now there may have been other issues with his attitude or whatever but the reality is that he wanted to come and we didn’t go get him. We waited for VVD and Naby. No reason we couldn’t do it again. That aside, those wages would easily be offloaded with the imminent departures of Lallana and Clyne + Lovren, who’s a 4th choice on 100k/wk. Shaqiri as well would more than likely leave if we did get him and Origi’s future would also be in doubt. The reported amount was 140k/wk on offer which would hardly shatter our wage structure.

He can only be good enough if he’s exposed to this level enough. It isn’t going to happen overnight.

BTW Fulham thought he was good enough for the PL at 15 while in the middle of a relegation dogfight..

Actually if you’re good enough you’ll start playing regularly for Liverpool, like Trent did at the age of 18 in 2017.

Elliott is simply not good enough at the moment.

As for signings, it is only Klopp who knows what our summer transfer plans are, so let’s see what happens

And from what I hear, Werner’s first choice was Chelsea because he would be a regular starter, unlike at Liverpool

Trent came under heavy criticism for his performances back then, especially the defensive side of his game. He only got to the required level the season after he broke through. Arguably that could only have happened because he was exposed to the top level.
If we’re complaining about depth in the squad without Werner and aren’t going for anyone else, who else is the logical option? It’s clear Jones is replacing Lallana. As a winger I’d say Elliot is much more suited to that role compared to someone like Origi who does better up front.
Besides, someone here said these kids would not get a single minute of playing time this season because they weren’t good enough even for cup appearances. Can’t remember who it was. I’d say it worked out much better than expected.
