Daniel Sturridge has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of The FA’s Betting Rules, specifically in relation to Rule E8(1)(a)(ii) and Rule E8(1)(b), during the period of January 2018.

He has until 6pm on Tuesday 20 November 2018 to respond to the charge.

They KNOW the rules Mak. I guess let’s wait until we find out what really has gone down and how the FA will punish him if found guilty (no smoke without fire). This could, potentially, really hurt his Liverpool career.

They wouldn’t charge him unless they knew he broke the rules. Let’s hope he was caught betting a trivial amount.

“What a fucking idiot.” They were the very first 4 words that came to mind also.

The charges are reportedly to do with wagers placed on Sturridge loan move to West Brom

kopite, yeh, supposedly West Brom were 25/1 to secure the services of Sturridge and someone made a few bob off the move after been given ‘insider’ information.

He’s in trouble so. Does he not have enough money as is?

MrMak – It looks like he is trouble because someone that he told that he was going to West Brom on loan then went to put a bet on, what is not clear yet is if Sturridge told him so his mate could win some money on a bet or whether it was an innocent conversation, or even if Sturride specifically told him he couldn’t bet on it. We don’t know any more at the moment, but it does seem to be a the bottom end of the scale, so shouldn’t be anything more than a fine.

I strongly suspect that he has let it slip to ‘someone’ that he would be (or a strong possibility that he may be) moving to WBA before the January window deadline and that this ‘someone’ has piled in – at good odds – on the basis of this insider information. Whether this information was provided to this ‘someone’ with the intent that they could benefit from it or whether it was done in pure matter of fact terms or, indeed, whether the information was passed down a chain of more than 1 link to the person who benefited from it is all down to conjecture at this point. If the above is anywhere near what the facts are surrounding this issue, then it would allow Team Sturridge to legitimately put out the statement that they have done, which is that he has “never gambled on football”.

The thing is FA must have enough information to go forth and charge Sturridge on this one, they wouldn’t have done this lightly. The ball is in Sturridge’s court to prove he is innocent.

Yes actually. If he doesn’t provide evidence that he is innocent, he will be found guilty. This isn’t a criminal court.

Sounds bad, but going to wait for the facts to come out before jumping to conclusions.

The Telegraph are reporting that, someone from the Midlands put a huge bet on Sturridge going to Inter Milan last January. And the betting company thought it was odd so reported it to the FA.
He didn’t even join Inter, he went to West Brom.

If this is true, then it would seem these are very flimsy charges from the FA.
