There was in my opinion an unhelpfull chant today of’You dont know what your doing’ by the Villa fans.

This was after he took Gil and Sinclair off. I too was suprprised he took these two off especially Gil but thought I would reserve judgement.
As it happens we looked better after these subs.

Do people think Garde does know what he is doing?

Let’s be honest we’ve been poor for quite a while and selling Delph and Benteke was the nail in the coffin. I doubt there’s a manager out that could get this team winning because it lacks a spine!

To be fair to Garde he’s up against it, the squads low in confidence and quality and the players who do show promise have been struck down with injury.

For me the problem is the midfield, where is the ball winner? the solid tackler who can boss the middle of the park break down play and get the team moving forward… we haven’t got one because we sold Delph and failed to replace him with Prem experience.
Infact since selling Barry, Milner, Young and Downing we’ve raided the championship, the bargain bucket and the youth of Europe for our midfield cover and that my friends is where our once fine club has gone sadly wrong!

You can only judge Garde once he’s signed HIS players and sets the team up how he wants it. Firstly I hope he ships out the deadwood like N’Zog, Sendeross and Gabby, equally if Kozak isn’t up to the mark ship him out too. 2nd I hope he has final say on the players brought in not Riley and the other muppet!

We need a RT back, 2 centre mids and 2 proven strikers, If Garde get these players and adds balance to the squad then we will win games.

    We can’t keep sacking managers!

good post a villa, completely agree (apart from I think Gabby should be kept particularly for Championship)

As Harry Rednapp said on Radio 5 today, ‘Not even Guadiola would be a success at Villa at the moment..’ so maybe we should cut Garde some slack ?

garde clearly hasnt made much difference .

however , until the ownership fiasco is resolved , we will languish in lower leagues.

I hoped the debate would be more constructive to be honest jackd..
if anybody thinks we were better with Sherwood, they are in my opinion delusional!
Why did he let Weiman go for pittance for example? We could certainly do with his effort and commitment to the cause right now! fair play to Ayew he is trying his socks off, but we will see if he wants to hang around and play in the championship.. I doubt.

Gestede is a waste of space and I know signing him was 100% down to Sherwood.. thank god he wasn’t given carte blanche to sign every player ! Sherwood also brought in Lescot.. clearly not good enough at this level any more.. why did he not go for Johnny Evans? Instead we ended up with Tony Pullis cast offs.

You cant get blood from stone, Grade cant be blamed for the shower of a squad we have accumulated..

banging on about the ownership is going to get us nowhere short term and just adds negativity, something we already have an abundance of!

I genuinely thought TS and Wilkins were the perfect managerial pairing to move us forward, youth and enthusiasm and a wise old head… sadly I was wrong. You hear snippets of information such as TS had very little say in the players brought in and the new French signings had very little grasp of the English language, if this is the case how could any manager succeed. But that’s the past as once again the axe fell and a new man is at the helm.
A Frenchman! so was Garde brought in because of the number of the French connection or was it because he was available at the right money or a mix of the 2? Either way he’s our manager and we have to show support, we were rock bottom when he arrived and although we haven’t moved up the table I believe the team is playing better and he has been unlucky thus far with mistakes and injury.

Regarding the substitutions against Wycombe I feel they were the correct decision. Sinclair was poor (again) and Gil was sacrificed because the pairing of Gana and Westwood is weak and the middle of the park needed strengthening so Veretout was dropping in.

Our midfield isn’t balanced, Sanchez can tackle but his passing is woeful, Westwood can pass but he’s lightweight, Gana and Veretout are young and inexperienced at this level. Gardner is injury prone and inexperienced, if you play Gil (our best midfielder) the middle of the park is too exposed which puts pressure on the defence and hinders our attacking play.

No matter which way I look at it we need 2 quality experienced central midfielders which would mean we could play GIL and Sinclair on the wings and 2 up top such as Ayew and Gestede i.e a 4-4-2.

Richards at RB and Cissokho at LB with Okore and Clark/Lescott in the centre.

Oh and I would give Bunn a run in the team as he commanded the area well on Saturday, something Guzan struggle to do!

We will struggle until reinforcements arrive!

Regarding Weimann we were right to sell him! He’s a striker with a return of 24 goals in 148 games stretching over 5 seasons… not good enough!

Even in the Championship this season he only has 4 goals to his name.

Sadly Gestede has only had 1 good season in his career and that was last year, how we has worth 6m I will never know! His stats before Blackburn were 18 goals in 138 starts…. woeful! HOW WAS HE EXPECTED TO FILL BENTEKES BOOTS!

I cant argue much with your main post here.. I think when you lose 8 games in a row most chairman would sack the manager so cant complain, I personally started having worries towards the end of last season, not so much in the results but the style of play and Sherwoods lack of ability in changing things mid game.. wilkins was a waste of time.. and his behaviour at the chelsea game where he treated it like a school reunion was inappropriate.. maybe if we were top of league it would have been acceptable.

I dont agree that the players arent trying but there is something missing probably due to confidence.. Gestede just doesnt have it in the locker.. i think his lack of game understanding is being construed as a lack of effort..

Has Garde lost the dressing room? ! maybe but most fans think the dressing room is full of rubbish so maybe fans should have sympathy with Garde.. it seems most fans would fall out with the team and when he does he is criticised for it..did he leave the players out to dry saturday? possibly but they ar enot players he brought in,, my guess is he will get rid of the lot of them! I like him personally and given time we will be back where we belong..sacking Garde would be be a disaster.. I think Weimans spirit would be helping.. he had a number of standing ovations just for his effort!

The press are having a field in the aftermath of the Wycombe game about fans abusing the players, players laughing at or goading the fans, fans criticising the manager etc etc. Let’s be honest after 4 seasons skirting around the relegation zone it’s not surprising the fans are frustrated and the club’s on a downward spiral. Garde comes across as being quite shrewd and his assessment of our current plight is spot on, his comments on Lerner and Fox needing to step up to the plate are correct, managers can’t always be the scapegoat.

The blame has to fall at the feet of Randy Lerner. He purchased the club and subsequently employed the people who run it, equally over the last 4 years he has pretty much walked away from it leaving it the hands of Faulkner and now Fox. it will be interesting to hear what Lerner has to say in his coming statement.

The sentiment of applauding a player who shows spirit is drawn from people loving a battler but let’s be honest we’d all prefer to applaud a goal scorer and match winner!

Our current squad lacks in every dimension!
