ST, i said that during the week. Sturridge isnt running enough at th emoment. Hes not making the runs to get in behind teams etc. Origi is. That limits us up front with origi starting but i can see why klopp is doing it.
razor, i dont thinkwe will go to 3 at the back but i see your point. I think the team wil be the same as sat except origi coming in. Klopps biggets decision is wether to start firmino or not.
Just look at dorutmunds players. Reus, Gundogan, hummels, Mytherian, Abubymang. Its scary to be honest. I really just hope we can stay in the tie. If we are not up for it , we could be in for a whipping. Any mistake stonight and we will be punished. Its very rare we get through a game without anyone making a mistake.
April 7, 2016 at 8:17 am #950351The very best of luck for tonight lads.
If the back 4 and Mignolet have a good game tonight there’s every chance of Liverpool coming away with a decent result.
Here’s hoping. Cheers All 999
April 7, 2016 at 8:47 am #950405So it looks like :
Mignolet
Clyne Lovren Sakho Moreno (!!!)
Hendo Can
3 of – Lallana Firmino Coutinho Milner
OrigiThink Milner will start but hope Firmino is also in.
Undoubtedly the biggest game of the season so lets hope we see Klopp’s on pitch philosophy at its best – a real test of his ability -despite not being a test of his team / signings.
Biggest game since the 2014 title run in!
April 7, 2016 at 9:09 am #950441Razor, I can understand why Klopp is dropping Sturridge, I’m just not too sure whether Origi is clinical enough in front of goal, but we will see. Fingers crossed we come away with something tonight (even a 2-1 defeat wouldn’t be the end of the world, but I do feel we need to score tonight).
Sean, agree on the mistake factor. They will be ruthless, whereas Tottenham weren’t, and we largely got away with the mistakes we made on Saturday. Mignolet has to produce over these 2 legs, and it worries me greatly that he won’t. Their home record is brilliant, and if they get the first goal tonight, are we going to be able to respond,or will we go into panic mode, like we did vs Southampton? I’m very nervous, but excited about these games
April 7, 2016 at 9:53 am #950525ST – Yes we did make mistakes against Spurs, but their keeper had to make more, and better saves than ours, is that not something we should focus more on?
April 7, 2016 at 10:31 am #950591Has there been something announced??
Sturridge isn’t starting???April 7, 2016 at 10:43 am #950627Yeah the closer it gets the more daunting it looks to be. I just get the feeling we are an accident waiting to happen at the back whether it be migs or the defence & we will get punished badly for any errors.
Then I look at our attacking options & really have to question if we will even bother them too much at all.
They are a class outfit with attacking weapons everywhere & I wouldn’t be getting my hopes up of a very good result over the 2 legs. They will score at Anfield if they have to but I’m not so confident we will score today. No shame if we don’t as they are a top quality team.April 7, 2016 at 10:50 am #950636Paxman.. Our mistakes have cost us the whole season and more often than not it’s the same story going forward. The bottom line is we haven’t been good enough at either end of the pitch or at least consistent enough for us to count on our “attacking prowess”. Dortmund have one of the best teams in the world. Our side deserves to be where it is in the PL. That should be enough of an indication of a gulf in class if it wasn’t evident already. We can’t afford the same mistakes that have dogged us the whole season. It’s time to put up or shut up.
April 7, 2016 at 11:09 am #950678What is pivotal tonight if we are to have any chance, is that we are clinical. Klopp’s style of play relies more on this this attribute because of the calculated risks in playing such a way.
April 7, 2016 at 11:23 am #950708Pax,I take your point, but apart from the save by Lloris from Lallana in the bottom corner, the rest of his saves weren’t good saves, they were bad misses by ourselves, and that’s the problem. We don’t score enough. I read somewhere yesterday that none of our players have hit double figures yet for goals in the league. Coutinho is our top Prem scorer, and he has 7 league goals. Our top scorer has 7 league goals, and we’re now in April. Says it all. Yes, we’ve had terrible luck with injuries, particularly to attacking players (Ings was one who was finding the net regularly before he got that bad injury),but quite simply, the back up options haven’t produced. Klopp will be ruthless in the summer I reckon, and a lot of the players who haven’t produced will hopefully be gone, and replaced with better quality (Gotze would be a good start)
April 7, 2016 at 11:33 am #950729Ginger, I’m just thinking maybe Sturridge might not start. Just my opinion as he’s not doing enough running
April 7, 2016 at 11:48 am #950756ST – You are right our attackers have not been clinical enough, also our midfielders have missed some golden chances when presented with them, but I would rather we were making the chances and not finishing them, than not even creating anything, it shows we are not that far off. If we start taking our chances we will win a lot of games, although that might not happen until next season with hopefully a couple of signings that are clinical finishers, and of course Ings back.
April 7, 2016 at 11:55 am #950762Big big risk not starting Sturridge imho (if indeed that’s what Klopp does). Origi is a good player (especially out wide) and potential to be a very good striker long term but we need goal scorers to try and get an away goal. For me that means you start with Sturridge.
My ideal would be that both play with Origi in a wider attacking role and Sturridge up top with Lallana on the bench but can’t see klopp doing this.
Sean yes agree Sturridge needs to do more pal (as do others) but we need to try and get an away goal.
Will be a massive call by Klopp and hope he doesn’t regret it.
April 7, 2016 at 12:00 pm #950768Absolutely Pax,but that just makes it all the more difficult to accept, when we drop points at the end of the match. Against Southampton, we should have been at least 3 up by half time, and got punished for it. We missed chances on Saturday, and got punished for it 2nd half. With the midfield as well,I just don’t feel that many of them have the instinct to get forward and get goals. Milner would probably be our best bet,but he’s stuck out wide. Lallana is another one who isn’t clinical enough, and is also too inconsistent. I know it’s easy with hindsight, and I know there’s no guarantee that they’d perform the same for us as they do for their current clubs, but when I look at the likes of Vardy and Mahrez for Leicester,Payet at West Ham,Ighalo at Watford, I just think “why weren’t our scouts looking at these players?”. Their fees were cheap, compared to what we paid for the likes of Lallana, and for me,would give better value for money. But,we are where we are,and have to rebuild again. Groundhog day
April 7, 2016 at 12:08 pm #950789ST our scouting system hasn’t been good enough, agree.
April 7, 2016 at 12:11 pm #950795bob, i would start Sturridge myself, ive just a feeling klopp might go with origi up top.
sturridge just needs game to really regain his sharpness.Ive no doubt that a fully firing sturridge is our best player
April 7, 2016 at 12:37 pm #950825Sean I think you could be right on Sturridge dropping to the bench if reports on the Internet are to be believed.
If it happens let’s hope Klopp doesn’t end up with egg on his face and we still get the right result pal.
April 7, 2016 at 12:46 pm #950837Starting with Origi means that Klopp is going to defend from the very up front. Does it mean that he will be satisfy with a draw.
April 7, 2016 at 12:48 pm #950843Scouser,I’d take a draw,wouldn’t u? Especially a score draw
April 7, 2016 at 12:55 pm #950867An away score draw is nearly a half goal win. Everyone will takes it.
