So far I have seen stories that both Frank and Drogs could be asked to return in some capacity to help with the continuity
I like that idea from the point of view of continuity, knowing what the Club stands for and from a pure footballing perspective what may be a better fit or not. However, not convinced that they have the credentials apart from knowing football and having their opinions on the best way to progress and who could fill a position – but that may be enough based on Emenalo track record…?
Overall, I think it would be a step in the right direction and of enormous benefit to Marina, providing she is prepared to listed…? KTBFFHNovember 9, 2017 at 8:27 am #1555592
hey Roman get back on here and entertain my friend. A bit of controlled spice on here never hurt anyone. Expect to hear from you before the next Premiership match. Timings good for a break from here between now and then anyway but see you soon coz after all we’re all blues brothers. Oh, and thanks for the raised glass 🙂November 9, 2017 at 1:51 pm #1555805
I fear you are correct pagan, shame though because I would love to see a team completely in conte’s image, just as we saw teams completely in fergie’s image, teams tend to be better that way.
Sure pep may not be “manager” at city, but it is evident that DOF has provided him with the players he needs to create a pep team. I just hope we give conte that support over next 2 windows.November 9, 2017 at 1:53 pm #1555806
1905, agree mate and like pagan said we need some consistency and continuity at the club. If managers are here for a season or two at most than it becomes even more important.November 9, 2017 at 1:55 pm #1555807
1967, lol, just do the trolling yourself if its that important to you 🙂November 9, 2017 at 4:42 pm #1555904
Lucky, your post about Pep raises a point, you say the DOF provides him the players, in City’s case the club have bought in the exact players the manager wants, which is credit to them, what I’d like to see from the DOF is developing the type of player he wants, however you have to strike a balance between the two…PaganNovember 9, 2017 at 5:12 pm #1555915
Pagan, DOF are primarily executive roles and act as a go between between the Manager/Head Coach and the Board.
DOF traditionally have no role in Coaching or developing first team players they are developed by the first team Coach/Manager and his Assistants and the same applies at U21 and Academy level where the relevant Coaches for those squads are responsible for Coaching their own players in the relevant squads.
A DOF identifying the players that he wants and developing them himself isn’t in practice at any club to my knowledge certainly no major club and would almost certainly see Conte/the majority of top Managers/ Head Coaches walk straight out of the door were it put in place and or not be prepared to walk through the door in the first place.
The Manchester City structure includes two ex Barca execs in. Chief executive: Ferran Soriano (former vice president of Barcelona FC, ex-chairman at Spanair)
Football director: Txiki Begiristain (ex-Barcelona player and sporting director) both of whom had/ have a very strong relationship with Pep and were responsible for bringing him to the club.November 9, 2017 at 5:30 pm #1555919
999, I think you may have misread what I said, as re reading it it is a bit ambiguous. When I said the DOF to developers players he wants, the he in this case is the first team coach.
Not really concerned about tradition, we need DOF that oversees the whole of the football ethos in the club, so there is a seemless transition style wise from academy, through youth to first team, with the coach of the first team setting the style. However the style must remain similar whoever the first team coach is, otherwise if will cause havoc flip flopping between styles.
Yes the DOF has to operate at all levels in the club, if he hasn’t got a suitable player coming through the system then he needs to seek that player elsewhere, and provide the coach with what he wants, and that’s where he deals with the money men…PaganNovember 9, 2017 at 5:39 pm #1555922
Pagan, I think the key is providing the first team Coach with the players he wants and the reason it all seems to be working well at City is that all three main protagonists are together and share a history.November 9, 2017 at 5:46 pm #1555929
999, yes that is the key, but wouldn’t it be nice to not always have to pay extortionate money for them….PaganNovember 9, 2017 at 5:54 pm #1555931
I’m not sure anyone will come in and take over the Emenalo role as it was if it were to be a Lampard or a Drogba I think we might see a restructured role.
Palmeab doesn’t post on here currently he’s still a wise owl though and he e mailed me following the Emenalo resignation and is pushing for someone who could work closely with Conte and would have a bit of gravitas when talking to potential signings and has previously suggested Vialli and Gullit to me.November 9, 2017 at 6:43 pm #1555939
Just read this “Conte recently recently found himself in hot water when it emerged that the Chelsea owner wasn’t talking to him. The two sides have been at loggerheads since the summer, when the Coach wanted the club to buy him more players.
With the Blues struggling, technical director Michael Emenalo has left the club, out of fatigue if nothing else, potentially leading Conte to feud with No.2 Marina Granovskaia.
Ranieri claims that Chelsea’s owner “has a different transfer philosophy now. He wants the team to maintain itself.”
Not sure how accurate the background actually is but Ranieri’s view of how things are seems pretty accurate?November 9, 2017 at 7:21 pm #1555951
Pagan, true mate, even at city they are looking to develop their own long term
Nine, palms suggestions of vialli and gullit are fantastic, would get my vote.November 9, 2017 at 7:28 pm #1555952
But i dont understand why roman would agree to increase conte’s salary if they were disagreeing, ffs it only increases the cost of firing him!November 9, 2017 at 8:00 pm #1555957
Lucky, me neither mate.November 10, 2017 at 10:13 am #1556090
I think any of the names being touted would work. Guess that Vialli and Gullit have that little bit more experience as they have been retired longer and both managed but that is not to say that Frank or Drogs would not be able to bring something to the job
As I see it, and this is only based on paper reports which I cannot validate, the main problem is potentially going to be Marina and how she would react to someone coming in who is probably more closer and more sympathetic to a managers viewpoint rather than just a yes man who would agree with her. So long as she understands that her job is to buy players that the manager wants, providing within our limitations, then I can only see this as a positive step forward for the Club. LuckyD… Don’t be as stupid looking as your avatar… Re read the post about the bullying and harassment again. Only yesterday a camera crew were attacked outside court in Aus.. If you still don’t get it, like a give a monkeys… You’re now my special trolling project…November 10, 2017 at 2:02 pm #1556171
RDP, you are a very sad individual. troll me all you like, could not give a toss.November 10, 2017 at 2:16 pm #1556181
Roman, you have previously been one of our best posters on here but for some reason you’ve become very frustrated and angry and I can only trace that back to the criticism of the press/media and the fact that you are involved yourself in the media and you seem to have taken that as some sort of insult despite the fact that the Sun story which seemed to kick this all off on here in respect of Steve Holland was proved to be nonsense by Steve Holland himself aand the Sun deleted the story from their web site.
The resignation of Michael Emenalo also seems to have had a negative effect on certain posters on the site too.
We should not be seeing threats against other posters being thrown around on here with the latest being by you to Destiny but there will be no negative trolling of anyone on here whilst I am Moderator of this site.
Please try and get back to being the poster we all know you can be.
Thanks and Regards 999November 10, 2017 at 3:19 pm #1556205
999, it’s typical of the press, they want freedom of speech to print what they want, then get all defensive if they themselves get criticised. As the old saying goes, if you don’t want a punch on the nose, then don’t stick it others business…..Pagan
