All points above taken, let’s take this further. Which of the premier league clubs achieved more than us during the season. I heard the following from Jan on Football Therapy. Compare us to Pool for example. We both won two trophies. We both made the top four for a champions league spot. We lost two finals and they lost one. In relation to their finals, people talk about their free scoring forward line, well over their 3 finals they didn’t manage to score a single goal over 120 + 120 + 90 = 330 mins. On a head to head basis, over the normal 90 mins each time,
they don’t beat us, even when we played a large part of one game with 10 men. Yet everyone raved about Pool all season long
All excellent points Chris and I think the top three finished as expected although we should have finished closer Interesting to see Petr Cech blaming the dip in form on Covid whilst I thought it was a bit of that but more significantly injuries to the two wingbacks and select mid fielders during the period December and January in particular. We ended above both Arsenal and Tottenham which in itself if worthy of a trophy due to bragging rights. I focus on failures and don’t look beyond Manchester United. Our supporters complain !! I’m glad I’m not a supporter of them. They really are in a state and depressing for their supporters. Where would they have finished had Ronaldo been out injured? I do get some comfort from watching their freefall unfold for the last 7 or 8 seasons since Sir Alex pulled up stumps. There does not appear to be life after Ferguson and the supporters are having trouble coping with that. With the sale of our club having been finalised it should be onward and upward for us. I’m not so sure United are about to hit dizzy heights any time soon.
Excellent post nine nine nine. 100% sums up what unfolded. We were rather clunky at times and I was hoping for football more easy on the eye but I, like yourself will not let that affect my judgement on what unfolded and the reasons why. I am pretty sure every one was ecstatic when we blew away Juventus 4-0 in late November before it all started to unravel and go pear shaped. That was an impressive but at the same time expensive victory in losing Chilwell in that match for the season.
