Still some minutes to go but we’re down to 10 men. Arsenal deserved to win. I missed first 10 min and what I see: Arsenal are the better team. Our 3-4-3 falls right away into their trap, they play a better 3-4-3. We are unlucky with the injuries but I think we deserve to lose. Arteta betters Lampard this time. We won’t move forward with Jorginho, all he does is slowing the ball. Rudiger was bad too, Alonso too and Reece James too. As we know, Auba is dangerous and he scored 2 🙁 Anyway it was a good season for us all in all, cannot complain but today we are not playing well and FL got the strategy all wrong

I was always worried after Kovacic got booked. Awful red by Johnson.

Nothing went right for us today hopefully the players take that disappointment on board harness it and use it as a motivation for next season.

All season we have lost players to non contact injuries and they have taken a lifetime to recover.

Massive injuries, and a bollocks of a ref cost us today. One we have an influence over one we dont.

Frank needs to sort it .. if he doesn’t …. well I support Chelsea first…. their managers second!

the first booking was kinda unnecessary. He lost the ball and then tackled. I thought he was gonna be red carded for that as it looked 2 footed. And he got the red card at the end anyway. For me Kovacic worked too hard by himself and Jorginho did not helped to much in getting the ball back. If we can pair Kante – Kovacic next season, it may work? We really played bad today. Kinda sad to close the season like this as I cannot see us overturn 3-0 against Bayern. I won’t blame FL, he took the same side who played well before but it turned out to be a wrong strategy. And with the injuries (Azpi and Pulisic), he could not make impact substitutions to recover.

Hope the manager, staff and players learned from today. Arsenal weren’t a better team than us on paper but Arteta got the tactics right and the pundits were right that they had more motivation than us. Mount did nothing on the first half. Giroud was alone up front. Pulisic did not get any ball either.

Aindro, did you see the first leg v Bayern 3 nil flattered us we were never going to pull that back v Bayern in Munich.

We were badly hampered by injuries today which cut a lot of Frank’s options no Willian, Kante only fit enough for a possible very short cameo RLC and Gilmour injured and whilst I agree Jorginho slows the game down too much Frank had few options.

We were better with Zoumas pace on the right hand side and we were beginning to get back into the game until Pulusic’s injury and the sending off which was poor by Taylor finished us off.

Sometimes we have to accept it wasn’t meant to be and today was one of those days.

Lots of work between now and the 12/09 but we would all have taken an FA Cup Final and 4th place at the start of the season.

I don’t even think that the referee was bad. Kovacic was already on yellow and should have never taken the risk. Injuries did not help but our starters today was the same as the previous match. We did not play well. Arsenal had more hunger than us. I just have to accept that this team is still new and young and this is FL’s 1st season. 4th finish is more than I could expect. Just losing in a final against an opponent we beat so easy last season’s final 4-1 does leave a bitter taste

Between the disappointment and late coming still awake, thought that ref was terrible and had a big influence on the result, Kovacic should have been replaced he was on a yellow and his type of game is risky for getting another yellow, anyway I don’t think we did quite enough to deserve to win but as even the commentators said the officials were putrid and they even questioned why he was put in charge of an FA final. I think with a decent and fair ref we may have pulled it off. Defence especially Azpliqueta and Alonso are way too slow and our biggest weakness.

I’m still in shock at some of those critical decisions. Whatever possessed the authorities to have such weak officials in charge of the FA cup final, the whole world is watching the great name of English football ruined by incapable idiots biased or not. As far as Chelsea is concerned we need a whole new defence keep Reece and Zouma, not sure about Rudiger any longer but the rest including Azpliqueta it’s time to go. The success of the team overides any possible kind of sentimentality. I also don’t believe Cabellero is safer than Kepa, his also a flapper with crosses and indecisive. I don’t even know how any team can feel good after winning in that manner but nowadays they don’t care as long as they win even with a big helping hand.

Unfortunately officials make mistakes I really wouldn’t put it at more than that.

Chelsea didn’t play to their potential but that aside everything went against Chelsea yesterday and the Pulisic injury and the ridiculous Kovacic sending off did Arsenal a huge favour.

I think Pulisic would have probably scored had his hamstring no gone as he burst through..

I thought Frank should have taken Kovacic off at ht as I fully expected something like what happened to happen.

There’s plenty to be cheerful about though and imagine a front 3 of Pulasuc, Werner and Ziyech with their pace.

Unfortunately not the end to the season we wanted but given all the circumstances a very good first season for Frank.

The first 10 odd minutes and it was going to be by how far. We looked great then the match changed and Arsenal took control, had a goal disallowed for offside then moments later a penalty.

Turning point was Pulisic’s hamstring. The hamstring holds up I’d bet he scores and we are 2-1 up. From there I would have been confident. Not meant to be sadly. The referee also was awful and took centre stage at a picture poster event when that should be left to the players. Way too many yellow cards culminating in a red for us where it could easily have been a red for them and many petty yellows amongst them. I hate losing to Arsenal however in the end and considering the circumstances they did enough to deserve the trophy.

    Hi guys,

I thought I’d drop by to share in the disappointment!

Nothing much to add that hasn’t already been said – I agree with Frank that we didn’t do enough and didn’t really deserve more. I am never angry if we are deservedly beaten. However..

Anthony Taylor has hurt us pretty much every time he officiates one of our matches. We all know what happened last time we met the Gooners in this final, and also saw how he killed us at home to Utd this season. The stats bare out this guy’s bias against us.

    I have two questions:
    1. Is there a Anthony Taylor voodoo doll available?
    2. Where do I buy it?

    Cheers, Ash 🙂

    Hey Nine,

Hope you and yours are all good sir 🙂

No, I’ve not been participating in discussion forums of any type for a while due to being very busy with work, so there are indeed two Ash’s. Maybe that one is Ash Cole?!

Anyway, you know that the only place I would venture would be here, the home of reasonable debate and in-depth football analysis!

Always disappointing to lose a Cup Final but I wouldn’t want to swap places with Arsenal or any other Club right now.

I think we’re in a really good place currently with what we’ve got, who we’ve bought, who we are seemingly likely to buy and who we’ve got coming through and then there’s Frank and Jody and the rest of the Coaching team plus an owner who didn’t buy us as an investment.

I really think there are exciting times ahead for the Club and ultimately we’re going to be pushing both Liverpool and City.

There’s been a whole series of wrong decisions made by Taylor to the detriment of Chelsea that go back a long way which leaves a question mark hanging over Taylor re him handling Chelsea games going forwards hopefully the Club protests his involvement in future Chelsea games.

A bit late to the party, I would like to pass my congratulatory message to Steveo and Arsenal, they had been fantastic and deserved to win or at least have done enough to win. and while I would say Anthony Tyler was terrible, I would also point our terrible performance especially defensively. and I have to say we lost the midfield battle early and that was the turning point. with Arsenal pace on the counter, it was always hard. our only shining light was Pulisic and when he left we missed him.

Frank would have brought Kante on regardless of the cost. at least he would have tightened our midfield and won it back. also, we badly missed Willian as Aubamenyang run riot against James and Zouma. Willian would have forced him back a little bit in that flank by putting pressure on the wing-back.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to next season. this season has been fantastic and with Werner and Ziyech and a left-back and a CB plus keeper, we will be competitive again. Frank has done a marvelous job this season. and I’m happy even though we lost the FA Cup.

I always hate losing to Arsenal regardless of the match and what is at stake. and i have to say they have outmuscled us. they deservedly won the trophy. and because of that i grudgingly congratulate them.

Now coming back to Chelsea, i felt Arteta have outsmarted Frank tactically and was smart enough to read his plans. and guess what! he has learned from the best in the business. also Frank is a one-trick pony coach who has got no plan B, and if he needs to succeed in this league, he should have one. Arteta looks the better coach between the two of them.

Thank God, it was only the FA Cup and not that big trophy that we lost. i feel bad about the defeat more than the mickey mouse trophy.
