Trying to pick an FA Cup score when it’s almost certain that 7 or 8 of the starters against Tottenham will be rested is a difficult task. No idea really what with that and the magic of the FA Cup. Chesterfield from the Nationwide League, top of the table, score less than 1 and a half goals a game and concede less than 1 a game. OK here goes. 4-0 or 4-1 Chelsea.

Found this possible line up as follows:

Bettinelli; Mbuyamba, Sarr, McClelland; Hudson-Odoi, Hall, Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic; Vale; Soonsup-Bell, Werner

In 1997 Chesterfield looked like becoming our FA Cup Final opponents in the 1997 Final when they led Boro 2 nil with 30 minutes to go in their Semi Final Boro came back there was a replay and the rest is history.😊

Impossible to predict a line up given all the circumstances, i expect us to rest the baulk of the players who will start next Wednesday night v Spurs.

67 I am old, so the bet was a slap up meal!
I would take you, but have to go with my spurs supporting friend.

9s that was a great semi final!
I think Chesterfield are currently unbeaten in 23 games.

Isn’t one of there managers a relation of our very own David Webb?

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with winning a slap up meal. Well done. I never had a brass razoo on it, never do so I am glad someone else has benefited from it. I have had a bit of a run with picking the scores at times this season. It’s much easier when your defence goes on a run of not conceding as you’ve got half the score right even before a ball is kicked 🙂

I think Kepa should start. For me he has to play as often as possible as he’s our main GK during Mendy’s absence. I would also start Sarr for him to get more minutes. Werner, Ziyech, Saul, Pulisic, RLC, CHO all have to start. Those players need to be ready anytime called as we are crippled with injuries & covid. They can’t be rusty due to not playing enough.

With the core above, other remaining positions can be given to academy players like Vale and Mbuyamba for example.

Think your post above broadly summarises it Aindro.

    You missed out Barkley though.😊

Definitely a shadow team with possibly some big hitters on the bench just in case they’re needed.

Might be best not to risk Kepa though?

Lion, yes Danny Webb is David Webb’s son and is a Coach at Chesterfield.

Yes I missed Barkley 999, well spotted!! But I won’t include him. I think he is one player I want to go in January. What he’s shown when given opportunity IMO is not enough. He has to go permanently somewhere else. Even for free. Hotels workrate on the field is not good enough neither is his attacking contribution. Last time he played, all he did was slowing things.

Very promising debut from 17 year old Lewis Hall.

I didn’t expect such a strong side out there. Still got close to the score at 4-1 even crediting them a goal. 5-1 a good win but troubling is still their finishing. Under much less pressure/more time on the ball to finish yet they still fluffed a hatful. The basics of shooting on target yet how often, even with time, were shots off target. I would have thought for professional footballers that practice shooting day in day out, being able to shoot on target would be a bit of a formality. Apparently not.

999….might be a long shot but is Lewis Hall any relation to our ex-defender Gareth Hall?

Fancy Newcastle with a pretty good line up losing at Home to Cambridge United (currently 16th in League One) 1-0. New owners and a potential massive cash injection and this is what their players dish up. What the heck is going on at that club. The poor long suffering Toon supporters! Eddie Howe must be looking over his shoulder already!!

Mtal, I don’t think Lewis Hall has any connection to our former player Gareth Hall apart from the same name. He looks a fine prospect though having only turned 17 in September.

67, in the long run going out of the FA Cup may do Newcastle a favour though as they can now focus purely on staying up which is no easy task and will almost certainly require a very successful January transfer window.

Excellent from Lewis Hall, a loan next season I suspect and possibly future stardom. I was a bit cross that Tuchel, having complained vigorously and rightly, about the schedule then used some first team players he had no need to use. Did he think we might lose?

There is also a shortage of opportunity in the season to give youngsters a few games. this was the perfect chance. Why was Harvey Vale not starting and Charlie Webster getting half an hour. Opportunity missed.

I also thought we would start with a couple more youngsters maybe Tuchel was unsure of the strength of the National league, it certainly appears to be weaker than in past years. But good to see so many young players coming through not to mention those on loan, Gallagher, Broja, Gilmour.

Nice little “Work-out”. Lewis Hall looked very promising. Plymouth next in the cup. Can’t complain about the draw

In the league, we can only be realistic that we won’t beat City or even Liverpool for the title. But I am hoping we’ll have a good run in cups this season. Carabao Cup one more leg in the semifinal and if we can avoid defeat: we would play the final. FA Cup we have a good draw for the next round. Champions League we have a good draw for the next round. FIFA World Cup I also hope to win that cup that we’ve never won.

I only watched the highlight against Chesterfield, our finishing looks worrying. For me the 100% goal against any other team was Werner’s. CHO’s goal: he wouldn’t be able to do that in the Premier League as surely there would be opposition defenders closing on him. Lukaku’s goal wouldn’t happen in the Premier League as Hall already lost the ball and Lukaku’s finishing wasn’t convincing at all. That close distance and the shot still touched the GK. Christensen’s goal was a bizarre one, a lob header like that. And Pulisic wouldn’t be fouled like that against a Premier League opposition. Tuchel will need to find a way in the finishing department, to take our chances
