Inspired by the Hendo Watch thread, I think it might be a good idea to have a dedicated thread for us to digest Fabinho’s early performances in and also to track his progress.

I’ve rarely been more excited about a player than I am of Fabinho. It wasn’t looking amazing for him, when Klopp wasn’t even having him on the bench sometimes. We all thought “but Robertson” but I’ll admit about myself, there was still some worry/doubt. However, fabinho’s last 2 performances were nearly perfect and if they are indeed a window into our future with this player, we’re in for such a treat.

I knew nothing about the guy before we signed him and even the signing itself was so out of the blue, it felt like it wasn’t such a big deal (no hype etc). Still, he was from that Monaco team and also the price in itself suggests the level of player he’s at least considered to be.

We don’t have much game-time from him, in which to make a firm judgement but he seems to have pace, physicality, defensive abilities (off the ball, tackling etc) and also offensive abilities(vision and implementation of a pass). With this, we’ve seemingly got a player who wins the ball better than our other number 6’s, while also being able to switch it to a more effective attack, faster than we usually would. That’s why I’m so excited.

Maybe I’m over-hyped. I don’t think I am but hopefully he’ll play today and we’ll have some positive discussion on here during/after the game.

Should be interesting as it looks for the first time in a 3 man midfield and against strong opposition.

Pretty poor so far at HT. Either the game by-passed him or when he got involved he made the wrong decision. Also lunges in a bit too much,

From what I’ve seen so far, the one area that I’ve noticed straight away is that he seems to lack pace and a little awareness. Hopefully, he can improve in these areas. Time will tell…Peace

    4/10 for me, Arsenal away.

Unfortunately the nerves really showed, Fabinho wasn’t showing for the ball, wasn’t calm and composed with his touches, and I noticed a few occasions he was open and I think his teammates didn’t trust him and looked for another option.

He made a few tackles, but failed most of his attempts. Positionally he was reacting very slow and letting people run off him for most of the game. That got better toward the latter stages where he started to look less laboured and a little more intelligent with his position and movement, as the nerves settled. He even made a foray into the opposition box late on, which was well timed, but that was about it.

A bit of nerves is understandable, and perhaps once that settles we’ll see what he’s really about. But this was a poor performance, must do better.

Ya, not a lot to add to this. I had hoped for better but it was a leap too far. There’s been talk about how the previous games were weaker ones but let’s not forget that he had to settle down and find his footing in those games too. The more he plays alongside Wijnaldum and co. the more he’ll settle.

I would start him in Europe and if we get any kind of performance from him there , I’d also start him against Fulham.

He didn’t have the best of games but let’s not do Arsenal an injustice. They were good yesterday. Fabinho is just getting started in the premiership & is learning that the top 6 in this league are CL level. We were unlucky not to take all the points yesterday & I’m sure Fab will have better games. Hendo with his experience might have got the nod from Jurgen had he not been injured. Ynwa

Yeah Arsenal away isn’t really the type of game to judge someone on. But I admit he was slow off and on the ball. Arsenal were able to get at is because of this.
I assume the transfer committee did their homework be week come good in the end.

I think also it shows that playing for Liverpool’s midfied is one of the hardest jobs in football. The amount of running you are expected to do is phenomenal!

Its still too early to judge fabinho. Except for the arsenal game, hes looked good whenever hes played so far. I still have high hopes for fabinho and i think he’ll be a good signing.

Fabinho is taking time to adjust to the tough, fast, physical Premier League, and that is understandable, though I had high hopes for him, based on his stats and performances at Monaco.

I think he needs to be phased in, rather than playing 90 min in high pressure matches. With Keita and Henderson coming back, this is what most likely will happen, so he could come on for say 30 min at a time

Anyone watch the Fulham game the other day? I only saw the highlights.

    How did Fabinho get on?

    He was ok just.
Despite playing a double 6 pivot alongside Wij, Fulham still managed to carve out a few good chances particularly in the first half.
He sits too deep for Klopps liking. Klopp has been seen on a number of occasions ushering him further up the pitch.

In the double pivot I thought he was better than Wij who had probably his poorest game this season.

Don’t think the chances could be blamed on the midfield however, more VvD having one of those leisurely strolls in the park kinda games. He lost the target man for Sessengon’s chance for instance.

    A 6/10 for me.

With that double pivot part of their job is to cover the fullbacks when they attack. Unfortunately neither of our 2 midfielders were doing that to any great affect particularly in the first half.
Agree about VVD in this game.

I’d say with a double pivot your full backs play much more reserved, or at least more intelligently. If they both attack then both midfielders cover them then that leaves the centre totally exposed. This is where the 433 is better but so far Fab has not shown he is comfortable in that system. Hopefully that will change.

    Can’t agree with that Threeps.
In a 4-2-3-1 your fullbacks provide the width which is part of the reason why you have the double 6, to provide cover. Mascherano was brilliant at it.
That’s not to say that both fullbacks attack at the same time.
How attacking the fullbacks are will also depend on the manager and his style of football.

Fabhino needs time. His reactions are a bit slow at the minute

I’m more concerned about keita. It really was thought he was ready made for us. Need him to start making an impact now

Loads of games coming up. Be really interesting to see were we are by the time we play city on 3rd if jan

I agree Sean, I think Fabinho will come good in time.
Kieta has pretty much been injured or just coming back from injury since the start of the season. He hasn’t had a consistent period of time of being uninjured.
I also have confidence he’ll come good too.
