If fekir doesnt happen, then who is a good alternative. Linked with gotze today but he has been shit for a few seasons now. Leon bailey and pulisic – whose decision making and final pass are still a little lacking – are not number 10s. Shaqiri is not a 10 and neither is malcolm. A younger version of iniesta/mata etc is needed. Dybala is the only one who fits that bill but he will cost way too much. When u think about it makes u realise how specialist a player couts was and fekir would have been perfect. I dont watch the italian league, is there any playmaker there that could fit? Mertens maybe? Or should we revisit rakitic? I just pray fekir gets done this summer
June 10, 2018 at 8:01 am #1646248Or do we push keita further forward and bring in a deeper playmaker in the xabi alonso mould like strootman. Or do we let ox make the 10 his own, he was linking up really well with the front 3 before his injury and he is a goal threat. Or maybe let wilson have a go
June 10, 2018 at 8:17 am #1646249Hairy, good call on Ox he is often overlooked for a starting place but I am sure someone could make a great 10min YouTube compilation on him and get this forum into a frenzy!
June 10, 2018 at 8:30 am #1646250Here you go bigballs 😉
To be fair if ox wasnt injured until november we wouldnt be stressing so much about fekir
June 10, 2018 at 8:36 am #1646251Ox won’t be back to November lads
Jc made a very good call yday in Felipe Anderson. Very good player
Dembele be great but Barca won’t let him out on loan
If we stick to 4-3-3 keita can certainly play in that role supported by fabhino and hendo/winji
June 10, 2018 at 8:42 am #1646253Yes sean i think that is what will end up happening. It will keep hendo as captain and fabinho will support keita. Anderson is a good shout too. Will be an interesting window no doubt. Regardless of what happens i really want ox to give it a mammoth effort when he returns to make the number 10 his own. He loves playing for us and u can tell on the pitch
June 10, 2018 at 11:00 am #1646298Ox is not back until next year, and who knows what the long-term impact of his serious injury will be.
I’d just regard him as a squad player for now
June 10, 2018 at 11:03 am #1646299As for alternatives (if required), rest assured the excellent Liverpool scouting team already have a list ready, that’s the way top clubs operate – having 3 or 4 top targets for each position
June 10, 2018 at 11:33 am #1646307It’s good that there are alternative targets but the Couts replacement will be needed this window, not January or next window. As is the keeper replacement. I think we should be challenging for the league next season & won’t do that without these two key positions filled. A striker to replace Studge would be useful too. Ynwa
June 10, 2018 at 1:33 pm #1646390June 10, 2018 at 1:53 pm #1646400The thing is with Anderson is he a pressing type player also? Klopp is not gonna want any passengers in the team. Even couts used to press effectively. Because of that requirement it narrows down the options massively
June 10, 2018 at 2:45 pm #1646420Yeah man that’s one of the best things about him, he averaged almost 5 tackles+interceptions a game in 16/17. That would be good even for a defensive midfielder. He’s managed similar this season after you factor in his ‘bit part’ role. Stats from whoscored.
He’s physically strong, quick, hard working with skill and end product. This season has been a weird one for him though, he’s fallen out with (Inzaghi) the manager. He averages a rating of 8.32 in the games he starts (which is exceptional), but then ends up benched and left out of following matches for mysterious reasons.
Despite that he’s played consistently well, his performances have been top drawer. Seems to me like his manager has single handedly ruined his place in the Brazil world cup squad, with bizarre team selection. I’m not surprised he’s fallen out with him.
That might go against him though, to Klopp.
June 10, 2018 at 2:51 pm #1646422I still hope the Fekir deal isn’t dead & will be back for him this window.
June 10, 2018 at 3:22 pm #1646428Monaco’s Lemar
Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech
Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos
Dortmunds Pulisic
Schalke’s Max MeyerThese are my alternatives. All fast and intelligent players. Ziyech and Ceballos both have high dribbling rates. Pullusic and Meyer are both strong could easily do the pressing and Lemar was great season before last in that Monaco team.
June 11, 2018 at 10:44 am #1646600The way that draxler plays he could become our de bruyne
June 11, 2018 at 11:11 am #1646614Asenio is apparently unhappy at the lack of game time and Klopp is a big fan. Would probably wait till the new RM coach is revealed to see how he fits in the team.
June 11, 2018 at 12:03 pm #1646646j c, seems you are a big fan of Felipe Anderson. A slight reservation is that he is not being linked to any big clubs, like say Fekir who was linked to Bayern and Atletico.
Looking at Whoscored for Lazio, the mighty Luis Alberto, formerly of Liverpool, exceeds his stats – he is ranked No. 1, while Anderson is No. 2. Doesn’t mean he is a bad player though, but is he the elusive playmaker we need to replace Coutinho, perhaps not.
In fact Anderson is supposedly close to a £34m move to West Ham
June 11, 2018 at 1:54 pm #1646712We’ve got that player draw going strong right now. In the time that Klopp has been here we’ve taken steps up in the quality of player that we’re able to draw. We didn’t win the CL but our style and quality of football has made waves this past year.
We have already rivaled (and beaten) even man city for players (Van Dijk) and that was before making the CL final. Now… well it just feels like we’re up there with the big boys once again and I’m not even slightly worried about this Fekir deal going bad.
If it’s true that he failed his medical then I say again, they made the right call. If it’s games on Lyons part then we either return after the WC or we don’t but the fact is, everyone will want to come here.
That coupled with the fact that our club now tends to do exceptional business, is putting my mind at ease. Even if you point at the Van Dijk situation to prove me wrong, I would argue that we’ve come out the other end even better. Who saw the Fabinho deal coming? Nobody. I’d say the only reason we even heard of the Fekir “deal” is because the president of Lyon is a drama queen.
Relax my dudes, we’re in good hands! I’m sure we’ll get a top top player one way or the other.
June 11, 2018 at 3:17 pm #1646758Songman, you say that like it’s a bad thing but Luis Alberto has been the second highest rated player in all of Serie A this season on whoscored. Second only to Dybala.
Whoscored gives low ratings for substitute appearances. More than half Anderson’s appearances are as sub and many games he started he was hooked. All players start with a 6 on whoscored, then in a 20 minute cameo it’s not much time to get the rating up.
Have another look at his ratings for games he started, because that’s above Alberto, a highly respectable 8.32.
I think he’d suit our pressing style. But he’s not the same mould of player as Fekir or Coutinho. Anderson doesn’t have as good passing and vision, he relies more on pace and strength. There are also question marks about his temperament.
Chelsea have been interested in him as well apparently.
June 11, 2018 at 4:09 pm #1646784What donyou guys reckon of draxler? He certainly looks better than brandt, meyer and gotze on youtube at least! He appears to be better than asensio too in dribbling ability and an eye for a pass
