And you would be right, so let’s get this afternoon flushed out as everything that could go wrong did, except that Plymouth and Oxford lost. Newport are our bogey team, our results against them are really bad, but what happened last season or 10 years ago doesn’t count.
So today we were clueless, the ref fires cards faster than cool hand Like and the Pompey players should have kept that in mind in particular Roberts, Think The Game Garry!!
Listless, yes in the first half we were awful, strolling in the park against a team that are known for feeding and killing apparently better opposition. They did that to us big time.
Essentially today was our worst defeat at home since Burnley 1-5 in March 2012, let’s throw it in the bin and kick on, 2 weeks and we will know for sure if we can or can not make the automatics.
Dire is too polite for how we played today. Before anyone says the ref was useless, yes he was but not as useless as our whole team. They showed no interest, no energy, no commitment, and very little skill. We must have passed the ball sideways or backwards 80% of the time. Newport simply outplayed us in every department, and all credit to them. Cook accepted we were dire, but much of that is down to his clear lack of ability to motivate the players (who shouldn’t actually need motivating in the first place). No wonder the team was booed off at half time and the end – it was an absolute disgrace (the players, not the fans).
Didn’t get to the game, very rarely do these days, so all I saw was the goals on the highlights program, and my initial reaction was Why aren’t we running and chasing to stop these goals ? Seemed like we couldn’t be bothered.
Maybe Kingo the lads had a bit of a good night out too many. The Newport manager took his team out for crazy golf and other “fun things” before the Pompey game after getting pasted by Barnet, maybe he said just go out and stuff them like we taffs normally do. Remember our record against them is awful (our lot forgot that). Our lads looked like they were playing the day after the night before, things were going wrong all over the park. Even Ben Davies could not lift the ball from spot kicks over around past the first defender.
Don’t know what it was but when I play tennis on Sunday morning after a good night session here in Italy I see my performance is like what we saw on Saturday. Anyway Mansfield, Notts County and then the dreaded wombles, another chance to put the train on the tracks againbut time is running out, so I suggest no more night’s out lads if that is what happened. I’m struggling to explain the performance after Accy unless my ideas hold some water or similar.
