Pagan…..and the fact that he prefers training with Belgium because there are not so many young players involved? and saying he doesn’t know where he will be playing next season?
I don’t think what he said will matter a jot now but Conte will be aware of it and Conte won’t go into the new season with a Keeper who isn’t 100% committed to the Chelsea cause if Courtois proves to Conte that he is 100% committed to the Chelsea cause what he said during the international break won’t matter and he will stay if not……!
April 4, 2016 at 4:32 pm #947366Pagan – and we all agree that without JT on the pitch there is no leadership either so maybe Courtois simply feels more exposed with the current situation…?
Agree with 999 that Conte is now officially on the job, will be taking in as many games as he realistically can while still juggling with watching his Italian squad, will be watching the video’s and I wonder if he will be getting Hiddink to try the odd player here or there…? But from what I have read he only wants committed players to his cause so Courtois has to clarify his attributed remarks or make his mind up pretty quickly…? KTBFFH
April 4, 2016 at 5:03 pm #947411Pagan, i totally agree with you Courtios comments has been taken out of context. i think he meant i would rather prefer playing under a stable defense rather than the Chelsea defense which has some regulars missing. there is no way that Courtios would say he doesn’t want to play behind the Chelsea defense as this would create an uncomfortable situation for him. but if he has an ambition to play for Real-Madrid or Barcelona, then that is normal. no player whether they talk sweetly or roughly would refuse to play for those clubs.
April 4, 2016 at 5:27 pm #947468999, young players, sorry I took it that it would be a given that with the old hands been out, the training must be full of younger players to make up the numbers, so yet again not a stable back 4 to practice behind…Pagan
April 4, 2016 at 5:30 pm #947483999, with a new coach coming in he might get moved on, all coaches like different players so all the players should be uncertain about their future…Pagan
April 4, 2016 at 6:04 pm #947516Lads, it really doesn’t matter what any of us think in respect of what Courtois said Conte will be aware of it and Courtois will have to convince Conte he is 100% committed to Chelsea and even then if a silly bid for Courtois comes in he could still be sold.
This summer will be a massive summer for Chelsea in terms of ins and outs and despite the club allegedly giving Conte a decent transfer budget I think we might sell big and buy big again.
As Pagan alluded to above nobody is completely safe when a new Head Coach comes in with his own ideas on who he wants and who he doesn’t want Conte is a very strong Coach who won’t hold on to players who aren’t 100% committed to the Chelsea cause.
Lots of water will flow under this particular Bridge between now and September 1st and I wouldn’t rule anything out and I don’t think it’s accidental that Roman has selected such a strong man to lead the playing side of the club.
April 4, 2016 at 7:40 pm #947612First of all i wish to express my delight in regard Antonio Conte’s appointment as the new permanent Chelsea manager, i’m certain that he is a competent manager who is up to the task. Wise-fan, i made no comparison between Forster and Courtios, but based on this season’s stats Courtios has been pants, although i do understand our defense had not been at its usual due to injuries, suspension and out form players. then came the comments that Courtios has been making in the last few weeks regarding his future at Chelsea when there was no manager in place. i’m sure Conte will sit with him and ask clarification about the comments Courtios has made. the fact that a high profile Manager is officially at the helm will help our course to attract players. if Courtios is in the right frame of mind and he is committed then i think remains our longer term plans. if he isn’t prepared to commit his future to us, then we should go F.Forster.
April 4, 2016 at 9:07 pm #947699Chelsea.man, nothing has been official when Courtios made those comments. I agree with you those comments were stupid comments to make as there was no manager in place at the time. Even if he planned to raise those comments he should have waited until the end of the season. But let us not forgot that this is the same keeper that has ousted our fan favourite Cech. And he is the same keeper that has won the league for us 11 months earlier. On the other hand i’m not convinced that Forster could lead a title charge and Conte will be well aware about that. I would rather have us retain our current keeper, but if we can’t a search for new world class keeper beggins before August.
April 5, 2016 at 9:25 am #948032i don’t know if there is any true in it, but there was an article in the daily-star today which suggests Conte would beg Costa to stay at Chelsea, but Terry and Courtios are free to leave the club, and F. Forster line up as Courtios replacement and Kostas Manolas ( a Greek defender who plays for Roman) is lined up as Terry replacement. also another article says Conte is pushing Chelsea to resign Lukaku back and is prepared to pay £50m. interesting rumours. let us see how Courtios and Lukaku react to those rumours. but it will be unfortunate if we are prepared to pay that huge amount for a player who has won nothing and is yet to prove his credentials at a top star.
April 5, 2016 at 11:00 am #948149ChelseaMan – firstly it is the Star so not sure how much credibility it will have…?
That being said there are a load of different stories and rumours floating about now that Conte is official, especially with players coming from Italy (as you would expect)
I think we have to be patient as I am sure that Conte is still evaluating the squad and I suspect that is why we will see more of the youngsters in the squad getting games so hew can cast his eye over them
Not clear to me if Conte has actually spoken to the squad or not (I am guessing that most had the day off yesterday after the weekend so probably not) so he will also need to do that at some stage as well and all of this cannot happen overnight especially as he is still preparing Italy for the Euro’s and any more friendlies they may have. KTBFFH
April 5, 2016 at 8:34 pm #948827Stupid rumours will be circulating in the press in the few days before the Euro tournaments. i can’t see Roman agreeing with Courtios sale and being replaced by mid-table level keeper. its unfortunate that we are trying to pay that huge sum to a player we have thrown 2 years ago. he has shown his worth against us in the FA cup. i agree Terry needs to be replaced with younger and long-term CB and that Roma guy fits the bill.
April 6, 2016 at 8:38 am #949214Totally agree that now Conte is confirmed we will be linked with loads of names
Hopefully, Courtois will want to stay but if not then I do not think that Roman would step in and rule above Conte so early in his career as manager. Conte may have some persuading to do to keep Courtois based on the alleged comments but he will need to understand exactly what the issue is/are before he makes a decision
There are conflicting reports regarding both Costa and Lukaku. IMO, Lukaku will never come back to Chelsea unless he is deemed the main striker so if Conte really wants Costa to stay and can convince him to, then for me that story goes away
If Costa still wants to leave then I have no issues going back for Lukaku providing that he can work within the remit of Conte who appears by all accounts to want particular traits in his players and not those who are not prepared to work/die for the cause (and one of the most common comments I read about Lukaku is that he can go missing in games if things are not going well…?)
Personally, I would keep JT but as much for his leadership and transitional assistance he can provide Conte as much as for his actual playing. Obviously JT may not be happy with that role but that is for him and Conte to work out. My main concern here is the lack of leadership if JT does leave but again, I am quite sure that Conte is more than aware of the situation and will be looking to address that early
Overall, it is now wait and see how things develop…KTBFFH
April 6, 2016 at 9:39 am #949298as far as the center halves are concerned-do we really need more, we have Cahill, Miazga, Zouma, Ivanovich, Christiansen plus a few more either on loan or coming up from the youth-bringing in another top center half will add to the fuel that we are ignoring our own capable players.
April 6, 2016 at 10:48 am #949454blueowner – so I would argue are they capable…?
Personally, I think that Cahill has mbeen poor this season and IMO, only looks good when playing alongside JT. He may play well with Zouma but not totally convinced about him at all
Ivanovic has not played CB for a few years and although has done little wrong since he has had to revert he is also the wrong side of 30 so not sure how many more contracts he will get
Zouma is a great young player and one who I fully expected to be the mainstay of our defence for a few years. However, a lot of his game is based upon pace and so it remains to be seen how well he recovers from the knee injury (thinking of how it ruined the career of Essien..?)
Miazga looked OK against Villa but he is young from a relatively new/poor league so quite a steep learning curve for him but not to say he will not be capable or at least provide decent cover
Christensen is getting good reviews from Germany but reports indicate he wants to play regularly so if he comes back to Chelsea would that happen…?
At this point in time my feeling is that Conte will go back to Italy and buy a decent experienced centre half, possibly a left sided one if possible to replace JT, and maybe as a potential captain that he believes he can rely on and I would assume with a view to play alongside Zouma. KTBFFH
April 6, 2016 at 11:54 am #949559The system that Conte intends to play will play a big part in the positions we try to recruit,as 1905 rightly says there are question marks against Cahill form wise, Zouma fitness wise and JT’s age and whether he is destined to stay and if Conte is contemplating 3 at the back we will need a number of c/backs comfortable in playing that system which may also include a ball playing sweeper comfortable with bringing the ball out and setting up attacks.
April 6, 2016 at 12:51 pm #949643hmmmm…
April 6, 2016 at 12:54 pm #949646People tend to forget that we had to sell players in order to buy players. Plus De Bruyne wasn’t training at the standard that Mourinho wanted and Lukaku wanted to play for a club where he was guaranteed to start.
Funny how people fail to remember that Chelsea won the league after selling these players (rightly or wrongly)!
April 6, 2016 at 5:08 pm #949886AMZ – totally agree with you and I would add to the mix that Mata would not/could not do the extra tracking back that Jose always demands from his players. KTBFFH
April 6, 2016 at 6:27 pm #949916Bringing Lukaku back is a risk imo not because he isn’t good enough but because if things don’t go his way he becomes agitated.
We can’t offer him CL football which might not be an obstacle that can’t be overcome this season but if we sign him this summer and perhaps don’t make the CL places next season what will his attitude be next summer.
He would also have to be preety much a certain starter which is not a gimee if Conte talks Costa around.
Lots to think about on this one imo if we really are in for him and he really wants to come back albeit to a club currently with no CL football.
April 7, 2016 at 12:11 pm #950792999, i don’t know how you could say bringing back Lukaku has its risks, when we already has the biggest risk in the league in D.Costa. any player who doesn’t have the ambition to play in the Champions league don’t belong to the level this club wants. he is the 3rd top scorer in the league this season, already fired his team in to the semis of the FA Cup, and is on course to get somewhere closer to 30 goals this season. this season Lukaku is head and shoulder above Costa and they say you are as good as your last season in the league. i think it was the biggest mistake that we made, and if we sign him back whilst its good, we will make ourselves look fools. but if there is one risk and embarrassment, then we have it on our hands in D. Costa.
