Aindro, I watched the Dortmund v Schalke game and turned it over football without fans is not football imo but I’m afraid that’s what we’ll have at least until January probably longer. A greater afinity with the PL and PL Clubs will help though.
I’m sure the PL will restart the train is rolling down the track now and I can’t see anything stopping it other than Government intervention if the guidelines aren’t met or significant numbers of players going down with Coronavirus both unlikely imo.
May 21, 2020 at 11:52 pm #1845248Yes, 999 I watched it too and one thing I noted was that the football didn’t have the normal cut and thrust with questionable tackles and multiple fouls like normal, more like a friendly match. Maybe that was just because the players had not had the benefit of “pre-season” type games to get them ready for the real thing.
May 22, 2020 at 4:02 pm #1845364With no treatment nor cure yet for COVID, I think this is the “normal” in professional sports. No fans present and minimum attendance of players and staff. Until researchers amd/or big pharmas find something.
May 22, 2020 at 4:51 pm #1845371“The players’ union will meet with the Premier League on Friday afternoon to discuss the increased risk to black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) players, with PFA deputy Bobby Barnes saying the issue must be addressed before the start of full-contact training.
A significant number of Bame players are thought to have expressed concerns over returning to action, and a small group of Watford players, including captain Troy Deeney, declined to start socially distanced training this week, as did Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante, who could be given the rest of the season off .” Standard 22/05
May 23, 2020 at 12:55 pm #1845445I believe the season has to finish irrespective of when it commences. July, Aug , Spet…whatever. Too much at stake esp for clubs fighting relegation. However football will NEVER return back to ‘normal’ again. I’m thinking that’s maybe a good thing. As for that complete self-serving doos who heads up the PFA…he’s a disgrace. Up there with the likes of Bloater and Pratini….
May 23, 2020 at 4:29 pm #1845480I’m not sure how the PL Clubs still in Europe or with 2nd leg European games still to play like ourselves are going to cope with a likely very compact fixture list after the PL restart and the 14 days isolation rule that the Government will be implementing from June 8th, without there is a last minute relief clause for sports teams incorporated in the new rules.
The same applies to F1 and the forthcoming British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Dortmund v Bayern on Tuesday night on BT Sport 1 from 5 pm might be worth a watch.
May 25, 2020 at 5:59 pm #1845747Unfortunately Dortmund vs Bayern is on a Thursday. It’s working hours here 🙁 , even though I may be able to sneak a bit to watch the match on TV as I work from home at the moment.
Looks more and more likely that PL will restart some time soon: https://www.teamtalk.com/news/premier-league-june-friday-night-restart-tottenham-man-utdMay 25, 2020 at 11:24 pm #1845754Dortmund v Bayern Munich is on in about 18 hours time from now at 2.30am Sydney time tomorrow (Wednesday 27th) if Live Score has it right which it normally does.
May 26, 2020 at 8:34 am #1845770Some crucial votes this week in the PL including how to decide the League if it can’t be completed ahead of returning to contact training which still needs to be voted through which it looks likely to be so and is the next much bigger step then anything so far.
The PL players are still integral to all this and they have to be onside the biggest concerns remain among BAME players.
The train is looking like it’s heading down the track for a PL restart towards the end of June but it’s not 100% there yet although currently that looks the most likely outcome.
It’s still dependent on Coronavirus cases amongst players remaining low and the Government criteria’s being met but there’s been some worrying social mixing over a warm Bank Holiday weekend on beaches etc this weekend and Weston Hospital has closed to new admittances due to being overrun with Coronavirus cases thought to be on the back of social mixing due to VE Day Celebrations as well as visitors flooding the town due to the good weather.
Dortmund v Bayern live on BT Sport this evening ko 5:30pm UK time and I will probably give it a watch I watched a bit of Wolfsburg v Bayern at the weekend which was half decent.
May 26, 2020 at 10:46 am #18458052.30am here for Dortmund v Bayern so I might just record and watch in the morning.
So this is the 3rd match back and I haven’t heard of any fallout that could have the game there suspended which is great. On that basis hopefully England will have similar success taking a few tips from the powers that be in Germany.
May 26, 2020 at 10:52 am #1845809My only concern 67 is that Germany has been much less impacted by the Coronavirus than we have in the UK but fingers crossed.
May 26, 2020 at 10:54 am #1845810“N’Golo Kante maintains the full support of his Chelsea teammates after he was excused from training last week. The France international took part in last Tuesday’s session at the club’s Cobham base, but was given a leave of absence thereafter and has been told he would be allowed to sit out the remainder of the season should he continue to feel uncomfortable amid the ongoing conronavirus crisis. Kante’s brother died of a heart attack shortly before the 2018 World Cup, while the 29-year-old, himself, had frightened colleagues weeks earlier when he fainted in training and momentarily passed out.
Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who last week signed a one-year contract extension, revealed Kante had tested negative for Covid-19 but in a Zoom call with his colleagues the former Leicester midfielder admitted he felt too scared to return to training. The 38-year-old told TNT Sports in an Instagram Live: ‘It’s very understandable. He tested negative for Covid-19 but he had a bad time of it during quarantine with symptoms of the virus that gave him that fear. Willy Caballero signed a one-year contract extension last week and will remain with Chelsea next season
‘We respect him and we’ll wait until he feels comfortable because the truth is that to do what we’re doing you have to feel okay and feel confidence and after we start again, we have to all go forward together. ‘N’Golo is a very humble and hard-working person who is always smiling and he must have his reasons to lift up his hand and say what he’s said. “
May 27, 2020 at 8:14 am #1845936New PL season to start on September 11th/12th according to reports as it’s necessary for all major European League to follow a similar schedule to accommodate European competitions with that revenue vital to all the major European Clubs?
May 27, 2020 at 3:39 pm #1846023Clubs agreed to start phase two: contact training. Seems that PL is getting closer to resume this season. If the season resumes, it won’t leave a lot of time between this season and next season
May 27, 2020 at 4:22 pm #1846029Today’s vote was as anticipated and is another step along the road that should lead to a PL restart providing everything remains within Government guidelines in the UK, there is not an outbreak of cases within the Club’s and the majority of players agree to play.
No Kante if that is how it finally works out won’t help our top 4 chances though.
May 28, 2020 at 10:04 am #1846126Respect Kante’s decision with the dangers of Covid-19. Basically we won’t see him until there is a vaccine found assuming he stands firm on his fears. Finding a vaccine may never happen so that could be the end of his career. It will be interesting to see how many other coloured players follow suit.
May 28, 2020 at 1:18 pm #1846166I’m not sure it will end his career 67 .
Allegedly his concerns apart from his brother dieing of a heart attack and him collapsing a while back where nothing showed up under investigation but both worrying enough is that he thinks he’s been suffering from Cov19 symptoms which is the main reason he doesn’t want to return to training?
Troy Deeney to return to training at Watford next week.
Talks with Frank planned although the Club aren’t putting any pressure on him to return.
Ultimately though the Club won’t continue to pay a player circa £8m a year for the next 3 years if he’s not playing.
If he doesn’t play in the last 9 games sadly it could impact on our ability to secure a CL place for next season.
May 28, 2020 at 1:21 pm #1846167Reportedly two more votes today by the PL Clubs.
1) Neutral venues (if that becomes enforced it could bring Project Restart down)
2) How to end the season if it can’t be completed (probably ppg)
First fixtures announced Weds 17th June the games in hand will be played City v Arsenal and Villa v Sheffield United.
19th/20th and 21st June will is the planned start of a full PL programme with all Clubs on the same number of games.
Allegedly the Police have said they want to see high profile PL games where fans might congregate outside home Stadiums to be played at neutral Stadiums.
May 28, 2020 at 8:19 pm #1846219Kanté has returned to training; he trained individually today. And PL restart date is set as 999 mentioned. So it seems that we will have football this summer. I don’t follow the Covid situation in England, how is it now?
May 28, 2020 at 9:09 pm #1846220Aindro, re Cov19 over here it’s better than it was but football aside we’ve got a long way to go yet.
Re the PL yep providing no setbacks it’s scheduled to start on the 17/06. Although the interview with Richard Masters (on 29/05) suggests there are still some hurdles to clear
Re Kante he’s training at Cobham which is a plus but it’s still on his own.
A 100% Kante would be a major plus in our quest for a CL place ( we may know before the PL restarts whether CL places will go down to 5th place with City’s appeal due to be heard on June 8th.)
