Saw the game late. Job done in the first half at home against a weak side.
A good effort though, classy goals from Young and Mata but it wont save the season.

Mac – Why are you so confident, going for a 3-0 win?

Because we’re at home playing a shit team hopelessly rooted at the bottom of the table with rock bottom confidence and who have just got a new manager. If we playing well under Jose I would have gone for 2-0 because Jose and the players would not save energy (not sure why since they never expend much of it) and park the bus once they had the 3 points sealed. BUT because of the stick JM and players have been getting they would want a more convincing victory to erase the embarassing truths like our negative goal difference, Lukaku’s goal drought and criticism over lack of high scoring results eg. An excellent chance to get that five goals in a game cross from around our neck. (Wonderfuel)

Thats what whipping boys are for. Somebody to vent frustration out on when things are not going well.

When folk say we’re bad they’re measuring it against the standard of where we should be, an elite team challenging for the title. And on that yardstick we are bad. But if you lower your standards and see it in terms of a mid-table team fighting for top 4 finish then, as another poster likes to point out ….. we’re not as bad as people make out.

Winning equals a lack of posts on here! Bed wetters!Alfie at 3:50 pm

This is an example of how standards are being lowered. Alfie expects pages of posts 50 minutes into the game from jubilant fans excited at the prospect of winning at home against the worst team in the league.

And then later when its a case of job done, he pees himself with excitement extolling the marvellous result.

Cracking result, great goal from Rashford and good to see Lukaku scoring again. Good performances from a few of the players today.

Yes Alfie, let’s pop the champagne. Lukaku has scored and not only that, we’ve got a positive goal difference ….. YIPPEEEEEEEEEE

Job done and its a relief there wasn’t a humiliating result as many here (not me) expected. But it WAS “only” Fulham and performance must always be measured against the relative strength of the opposition.

Valencia is a dead rubber so no surprises if we lose that as nobody will want to break a sweat (do they ever) with the Liverpool game 4 days later. (thank our lucky stars we didn’t need to win that match).

Let’s then see how we do against Liverpool. Will this result have changed our expectations for that game.. I doubt it.

PS – I can see the bedwetters moaning … Mac why can’t you be happy and celebrate our glorious victory … Because it was as much as an achievement as getting up in the morning !

MacGuffin, for a period of the game, I thought your 3-0 prediction was going to be Gospel.

3-0 was quite a popular pick. A lot of points scorers this week in the prediction league, though no-one got the result spot on.

Mac – But by the same rational we should have thrashed Palace and Southampton and we didn’t. That’s why I wondered how you were so confident.

The early goal really changes things, makes opposition open up more. Great strike from Young, not seen anyone in the team score those type of goals for a while.

Lukaku deserves a mention too. Best game for him in a long, long time. He needs to build on that.

@happyhurling – What’s with this “so confident” crap. I said no more than “3-0”. Anyhow I explained. Normally I would go for 2-0 at home against relegation fodder. That’s 3 points with a goal to spare to safeguard against the surprise late goal making it a draw. BUT because of the build up of criticism and Fulham seemingly to have given up the ghost I added another goal because I thought the forward line may actually want to score to have some counter to the personal criticism(eg Rashford, Lukaku).

Saints was away and I tipped a win though because they are a relegation team AND was wrong. Palace I tipped a home win because we were at home and again was wrong. I’m not going to tip draws and defeats against relegation fodder. We are mid table team not battling relegation.

@Alfie – Lukaku did get a “mention”. He scored at long last. Does he deserve anything more?

Stop being miserable Mac. We won, get over it. No need to suck the enjoyment out of everything.

Shows how much of a fan you are, not even aware that Lukaku scored at Southampton. If you spent as much time supporting the team as you do wetting the bed you’d have known that.

Gutted I only managed to watch a few minutes of the first half. Great result and even though Fulham have been rubbish they could have been very difficult to break down.
Great to see Dalot get another 90 minutes. Rashford and Lingard have been very important setting our tempo, I’d be happy to rest both against Valencia and play Liverpool with a front 3 of Martial, Rashford, Lingard

Yes it’s only Fulham, it’s expected considering the size of club and investment made. It doesn’t always happen but it should the majority of the time.

Did we beat any team of significance?

Quiet on here when we win. Hmmm… Well we did but it was Fulham-@ home! A relegation-fighting team so crap I m struggling to remember a worse team to grace the PL! Nothing less was expected-for we are Manchester United after all! Lets beat Liverpool next week.

MUFC regarding Europa I did think the same but the competition looks a lot tougher and that’s before the champions league teams drop down.

Sorry WF late reply just recovering from the celebrations after yesterday’s result lol. Your more obsessed with Baku than I am lol. April is the planned trip year end is March for work so I tend to go away in April. I’ve convinced her Baku but she’s still going on about returning to Dubai with the little one to water parks and all that.

I forgot the Europa final is in Baku. I could potentially change the dates

@libanski – Yes it’s only bottom-of-the-league Fulham. I’m not knocking the performance or result. They did what should be expected (ie the standard). You are lowering standards by expecting some sort of standing ovation for doing what should be a given (hence me tipping 3-0).

And yes you’re right, you can’t get praise for doing what is expected. If you arrive late for work you get a bollocking and if you arrive on time you don’t get a pat of the back.

The reason you’re so cock-a-hoop is because we’ve struggled against the cannon fodder and this time we didn’t. If the landlord serves the customer dodgy beers all evening then at long last serves one that’s fine you probably think the landlord deserves praise and anybody not giving praise is a miserable bastard.

If we beat Liverpool I’ll be well pleased and if we win comfortably then I’ll be cock-a-hoop.
