That’s it rob. It could have been worse. We were outfight which was the worry. I’ll take a draw as it was that poor. Losing 2nd balls etc. it was sluggish.

Songman, that’s my hope too. I seriously doubt it and will be expecting another “you don’t buy a player to cover a muscle injury” line from Klopp. Well Mr Klopp, how about a procession of them that you didnt need a crystal ball to see coming?

anayway, I’ll stfu and go find something else to frustrate me

A top midfielder on loan perhaps? Like Gini went to Roma?

A lot of over reaction, maybe in a few hours everyone has calmed down a bit. City lost their first game last season and still won the league. A newly promoted club at their ground will always be a challenge, they will have the crowd behind them and pumped up. They pressed very well and with our midfield off their game we were always going to struggle. Nunez was a big positive however which was my main concern earlier in the summer but he is looking good in our tactics.

It’s a long long season, not a perfect start by any means but a tough game that anyone can have. Sure City won’t win every game.

Those asking for another midfielder, we had elliot come on for Thiago, were you disappointed in the young lad? Who would you prefer to come on? Should we not keep faith in these young players?

Ye exactly threeps. No point going overboard about the draw on the first day. We were much better when subs came in. Fabhino was terrible and hendo at 6 and Elliott taking his position changed things. Milner did very well aswell.

Delighted nines scored. He was a real handful.

Threeps, we’ve lost Ox, Keita isn’t reliable for any decent stretch of games, Jones has his issues too, Thiago, Fab and Henderson all pick up injuries leaving Milner, Elliott and Carvalho.

We seem to be always around 50% capacity in the midfield unit for one reason or another.

For me, that’s too much of a risk for a very high profile team like Liverpool and a team that will be challenging again (hopefully) all all four fronts.

We’re gonna need as many legs as possible in the engine room.

I think the first thing on Monday morning’s team meeting agenda is – do we go into the market now?

Thing is Rob Klopp never buys for the sake of buying and if a player he wants isn’t available he will simply wait. Of all the midfielders that have moved this summer have any been want we wanted apart from the young lad that went to Madrid? Bissouma maybe but he comes with off the field baggage.

I’m not the manager but I would have Gomez and Philips ahead of Trent, they would be less easily bullied by big defenders. It will be a long and nervous season when we come up against the likes of Brentford as Klopp will prefer Trent.
Don’t think that is an over reaction or knee jerk as he has been quite weak in such situations before, can’t name them all but against Villarreal and Brentford he could have done much better. If Mitrovich is too strong for him, then I guess we are in for some nail biting moments when he comes up against the likes of Antonio.

captkirk, thing is Joe gets caught in ball watching mode too often. The big fella would have scored that tho against most full backs today. He’s a handful.

When I was saying that we need a new midfielder some were laughing…
    Now what are they saying???
We have a nuclear weapon inside the box and we are lack of midfielders….

Pinez, we don’t lack quantity of mids, we lack ‘always available number of mids.’

It does seem though Rob that its always the same members that arent available, this should be addressed asap. The Like of Ox, Jones and Keita clearly need to be swapped out, the others are also hitting the dodgy ages and picking up more and more injuries regularly.
The continued TAA issue will continue to arise as he is clearly the biggest weakness we have at the back even if he is great on getting assists, i guess its down to Klopp as to whats more important here, assists or stronger defence.
Oh…..and Nunez must start from now on and relegate Booby to back-up

Liverpool next play Villa behind closed doors at Anfield tomorrow. A good run out for the rest of the squad and U23’s to get a piece of the action.

I honestly think we will go ahead and sign another mid now. We brought in Kabak and Davies when we got hit along with backline; why should mid be any different?

Like 2 seasons ago when we had the injuries in defence, we at least rectified it last season by bringing in Konate. Likewise, we had injuries in midfield in the first half of last season which cost us but we didn’t rectify it this summer. We just tend to do the bare minimum in the transfer market and/or pick up the odd young up and coming player and use Klopp’s drive to make it all work and get results. But that puts the pressure on him and the team. Indeed Klopp has raised expectations vs the model we basically have.
