Bissouma has a lot of baggage, it would not surprise me if he paid himself out of trouble which seems to be the way to handle yourself right now… its pretty obvious who we are waiting for, Klopp is not gonna cave in and buy another target when he has his eye on a certain player who has been given the thumbs up by everyone associated with our transfer system…
You guys are forgetting that we also have Jones who just needs to man up a bit, get some meat on his bones before he can tear apart the league. The club has really high hopes for him, Elliott and Carvalho, they are all gonna get some game time this season and we just need two of them to reach their full potential, they could all do it. Imagine that and Bellingham, who will be playing for us next season…August 6, 2022 at 9:13 pm #2120614
Rob, is your acceptance for diving growing every time we concede ?August 6, 2022 at 10:23 pm #2120622
It wasn’t a dive. It was a sloppy challenge from Van Dijk that he went down easily that gave the ref a decision. If it were just a dive, the penalty would have been reversed.
Threeps, everyone was pleased with Elliott. The issue is that we are just after day 1 and we are already at the situation where we need him. He missed most of last season with a horror injury. Who do we play if we lose another mid or 2?
It isn’t buying for the sake of buying, if it’s a necessity. We’re not there yet but as I said, 1 game in and how many of them are injured? How many are a surprise.
The answer for me is a loan. I’ve no clue who’s available but we’ve got to get someone in temporarily, as we develop Bajcetic and wait for Bellingham.August 6, 2022 at 11:01 pm #2120627
Less he did go down easily but we didn’t properly defend against him and when you don’t execute the basics of 1v1 you’re risking situations such as what we saw earlier.August 7, 2022 at 12:35 am #2120632
The 1v1 chance came from a shocking mispass by i think matip who passed the ball straight to a fulham player in keeping with our overall shite performance.
I saw the club video of pep giving out his new book ‘Intensity’ to players to much fun and fanfare. They probably thought fulham away was gonna be a cake walk.August 7, 2022 at 1:02 am #2120633
Mak you try convince a player of good enough quality to come in on loan in case we get 1 or 2 more injuries. Then convince his team to let such a quality player come in on loan. Not going to happen unless its someone they want the wages paid for like with Saul and Chelsea last year (ignoring he was pretty terrible just an example).
I am pretty sure the recruitment team know what the team need and know who is available. Out of all the players that have made a transfer who would actually be worth it? We are not a team in a position that can stock pile players, if the ones that we have are too injuried then we need to manage them better like with Matip until we get them out of the club. And maybe dont hold our asteemed recruitment team in such high regard as they are the ones that keep buying these injured players you all seem unhappy with.August 7, 2022 at 1:04 am #2120634
Reds, nothing else, I believe we strolled into W. London believing we could take the piss and it backfired, which I’m OK about. Kick in the bollocks and a wake up call.August 7, 2022 at 1:47 am #2120635
“And maybe dont hold our asteemed recruitment team in such high regard as they are the ones that keep buying these injured players you all seem unhappy with.”
For someone who was taking people to task about over-stating things, I have to say, who here is unhappy with Thiago or Elliott? I mean, even Fabinho. I think you’re one of if not the only one here who is unhappy with him. It isn’t about being unhappy with the players but more what happens where there are none left.
This “stockpiling players” is just another way of saying “buying for the sake of buying”. Neither are valid, especially when you follow it up with “in case we get 1 or 2 more injuries”. 1 or 2 more injuries is nothing, so we’re actually really close to being in trouble? … and I don’t know why it’s up to me to convince players to come, like it would be utter madness to get some player in as emergency backup. Nobody said anything about them having to be a world beater but it’d be good to not have to rely on a player who has yet to make a PL start, which we’re a little bit of bad luck away from doing and we’ve played 1 game.
Is this the part where I have to name said player, since I’ll be the one convincing them to come to lowly Liverpool? Wijnaldum just went on loan to Roma. Lucas Leiva went back to Gremio about a month ago. Those are just 2 ex Reds. How many players in various scenarios like these are out there? None? Did I just name them all?August 7, 2022 at 1:47 am #2120636
Yeah rob a wake up call alright. I think we’ll see the old intensity back in the palace game.
Midfield worries me though. We got a lot of personnel there but half of it is always in the hospital.
When they’re fit theyre functional amd workmanlike but lacking goals.August 7, 2022 at 4:13 am #2120638
Start Elliott regardless of who is or isnt fit. Start Nunez. Palace aren’t going to be easy but the lads will know that they’ve got to get a result or potentially face getting dropped.August 7, 2022 at 4:18 am #2120639
I think the biggest reason for the dramatic scenes yesterday was that we were all looking forward to the new season. Most of us wanted Nunez to start and what we saw was well below the level of grit and determination and skill that we’ve come to know under Klopp.
Although we hit the woodwork twice and scored a (rightfully) disallowed goal, I feel that in a way, we were also lucky enough to come away with a point.
The Palace game isn’t until bloody Monday week, which is a pain but on the plus side, they’ve got more time on the training pitches. The lads who werent used yesterday also get a game against Villa. This season will come too soon for Bajcetic but it’ll be invaluable to him. Still,. we might see some kind of participation for the subs Carvalho and Elliott. I don’t think either look like they need the extra match fitness but ya…August 7, 2022 at 5:25 am #2120640
Then Mak why haven’t we managed to get anyone in? What reasons are there?
Gini has gone to Roma a step or two down from Liverpool and PSG because that is his level. Not sure why Lucas gets a mention he hasn’t been elite level for some time. Klopp will never just buy for the sake of it and not because someone is injured for a month or so or he already would have. There’s hundred of players we could have bought obviously but I’m guessing Klopp doesn’t want them as they are deemed not worth the price foe a place in the team.
I actually have rated Fabinho very highly but the last year or so he has been pretty bad. He just seems to jog about these days and is easily bypassed. Yesterday surely you can’t be happy with his performance I mean there’s likely a reason he was taken off right?
Thiago is a wonderful player but highly prone to injury so was he the right player for Liverpool? Was ignoring his injury issues the right thing to do by the transfer team knowing he needed to up the intensity?August 7, 2022 at 12:40 pm #2120687
Sean the sailorParticipant
I just think everyone needs to calm down. We aren’t going to sign a midfielder. This isn’t as bad a situation as the centre back crisis but in fairness Klopp got that wrong. Stating two midfielders at centre back when Philips was available.
Keita is back next week. Milner did well yday but can’t be depended on for 90 mins. Jones needs to step up bigtime this season. Involved for big parts of ganes and not disappearing. Mikuis has said what threeps is saying about fabhino for a while. When he’s bad, he’s terrible and when he plays bad, we usually do as a team. I still highly rate him but he was awful ydsy.
It’s one game lads. Let’s not get to disappointed . We play well the majority of times but we do have a game on us like yday every so often. Villareal comes to mind.August 7, 2022 at 1:30 pm #2120699
Much is made of our transfer success, but £100 million on Keita & Fabinho I don’t think is the best business we did and is perhaps costing us now given the model we have at the club with regards to buying players.August 7, 2022 at 1:57 pm #2120706
Mikus, yes on Keita, but we didn’t waste money on Fabinho. On his day he’s a beast but I could have run faster than him yesterday in high heels. Shocking how slow he was. I know much about the #6 role is positioning but there’s times you need to step on gas and when he did he looked like a clapped out Morris Minor. I know it’s early doors but he’s clearly not ready and we’ve had pre-season! If he’s not ready play Bajcetic, he’s ready, which takes me back to my post earlier, I think we went into the game a little too arrogant and got a good ol’ hobnailed boot to the bollocks.
Good!August 7, 2022 at 2:10 pm #2120716
Element of truth in this.
Mitrovic is strong but when strength gets the better of you, you disrupt, and Trent didn’t do that.
I wouldn’t blame Trent entirely on this, that would be ridiculous, as Robbo didn’t stop the cross but we simply have to do better in these moments. We allow too many dangerous balls in the box by either not closing down, not getting goal side and simply not being aggressive enough in the 1v1.
PS. Eds, why the f*** am I putting ‘-‘ in to ensure the paras are not stuck together? A simple bloody fix. Get off social media, stop mktg for a sec and get someone on it or I’ll have to pay a visit when I’m over at Chrimbo!August 7, 2022 at 2:41 pm #2120748
Don’t know Rob. Don’t want to start a big Fabinho debate, but I think in this era of football you need to be both tough and fast for a defensive midfielder, and even years ago I still had my concerns with him getting bypassed too easily. And because he’s not quick, he can’t track back quickly so you lose your insurance too, so others have to do it. Now yes under Klopp, all player are expected to track back and work hard but then if just one doesn’t do it you can be in big trouble, particularly if you’re on the end of a counter attack with our high line.August 7, 2022 at 3:50 pm #2120796
“Then Mak why haven’t we managed to get anyone in? What reasons are there? ”
There is one reason, we haven’t tried. BTW don’t come back at me with the lad who went to Real. He is a top level player, not cover/backup.
“Gini has gone to Roma a step or two down from Liverpool and PSG because that is his level. Not sure why Lucas gets a mention he hasn’t been elite level for some time.”
Gini will probably start for Roma. I get the feeling that you’re purposefully misunderstanding my position on this so this is the last I’ll talk about it with you.August 7, 2022 at 3:58 pm #2120804
” This isn’t as bad a situation as the centre back crisis but in fairness Klopp got that wrong. Stating two midfielders at centre back when Philips was available. ”
It isn’t as bad but we’re 1 game in. The CB crisis happened over time, as other players got injured, it didnt just suddenly happen all at once, while the transfer window was still open.
A few more injuries and Klopp will be playing players from other positions in midfield. It will take a few more injuries fr that exact problem to resurface. Maybe they won’t happen at all and we’ll be fine. That is how I felt about it before Thiago pulled up and the other 2 lads put in awful performances.
I shouldnt have to restate that I think Elliott could start for us this season but people seem to forget that I was calling for it long before any of this. it’s just that you need a safety net. we could also do without mgiving Keita a new contract FFS but we are just about to do exactly that… Throwing good money after bad.August 7, 2022 at 4:06 pm #2120812
Look on the bright side lads.. Utd lost 🤣🤣🤣
