Sean, did you see the penalty that wasn’t given in the Utd game just gone? Shoulder charged very heavily into the back… nothing. I too don’t like to get too conspiratorial but WTF.
AK, Elliott will get a good run in the team now. I would have preferred that he came on as a sub or played instead of Hendo from time to time but needs must as the devil drives. This is Elliott’s break-through season and he’s got a few games to show that he’s up to it, before the window shuts.
I still think that we should buy a reliable CM, I’m just trying to see our way beyond this Thiago injury. If we start racking up more though, I think our title challenge could be in early jeopardy. Klopp isn’t going to sign anyone, so we’ve just got to ,cross our fingers and toes.
On a brighter note, Salah and Nunez are going to absolutely DESTROY teams. I should include Diaz in this too, as he was unlucky not to get something from that match but the moment Nunez came on, there was suddenly someone there for Salah to play into and off of. It was a breath of fresh air and a massive fucking relief to see if I’m honest.August 9, 2022 at 1:43 pm #2121391
Mak : I’ve always been supportive of Keita but I would never tell you ‘not to celebrate when he scores or makes a vital last ditch tackle’, sounds like you want to make those who criticise Trent feel guilty.
We all want the club to succeed and we’re entitled to our opinions as long as we don’t try to browbeat those who have differing views.
I happen to think that Trent has many flaws, a defender is a sly fox normally using tricks to unbalance a heavier opponent, but he doesn’t have that in his locker, there are other numerous flaws, basic defensive stuff that seems to go over his head.
As to his crossing abilities, well it’s not as if we got the Kohinoor here. I’ve seen Milner and Hendo make pinpoint crosses when they were in Trent’s position.
Think I will criticise him when I see fit, I’m not expecting perfection from him, just as an example, encourage a right footer to shoot with his left foot, and vice versa but he can’t even do that.August 9, 2022 at 3:42 pm #2121424
“sounds like you want to make those who criticise Trent feel guilty.”
No, I want to give people perspective. The difference between Keita and Trent is that Trent’s flaws are far andf away made up for by what he offers going forward, Keita might have a good game here or there but his flaws are so vast that we should really be lookign to move on from him entirely, IMO.
You can take it however you like, it’s just annoying to hear people complaining about one of our best players like he’s a total liability.August 9, 2022 at 3:44 pm #2121425
Maybe I should bite my tongue regards trent though, for diplomatic purposes. It’s a forum though and I’m not the only opinionated person on here.
My take on him is that we should be appreciating the hell out of him, on the whole. As for that goal the other day, there arent many defenders who stop Mitrovic there. It would take Van Dijk to manage him in that situation, I think anyway.August 9, 2022 at 4:26 pm #2121436
Come on yankees and Klopp!!August 9, 2022 at 5:05 pm #2121444
Sean the sailorParticipant
Spot on mak. Totally agree
Sorry Kirk you cannot compare Milner/Gomez crossing to Trent’s. Him and Kdb are the best crossers in world football. I agree his defending at the back posts needs to improve but in general , his defending has improved. Any defensive mistake he makes, he gets absolutely slaughtered
He’s like having a play maker at right back. He’s an absolute unbelievable player. He’s still very young. Absolute maddness to think of replacing him at right full.August 9, 2022 at 5:35 pm #2121450
If you look at KDB and Trent’s heat maps they are very similar.
Only KDB doesn’t have Trent’s defensive responsibilities.August 9, 2022 at 5:58 pm #2121452
Exactly. It’s almost like when we used to play Gerrard at RB but he’s utilized far better here and is a core part of ,our system, rather than just covering a hole.August 9, 2022 at 11:28 pm #2121501
Why Jordan Henderson can no longer be a starter at Liverpool Football Club.

Above is an interesting read make of that what you want.August 9, 2022 at 11:38 pm #2121503
Hmmm what do I say about this? There are things that I agree with and things that i think are exaggerated.
I never rated hendo as a 6 and it was a big thing but I do rate him as an 8.
That said, he was really awful the last day. I saw comments on YT where people were sayign he had a “brilliant” game, so there definitely is some weird shit there but it is just one game, where most of the team were well below par.
Of course Hendo is getting older and he has that Heel condition all this time. I’ve never thought of him as a relentless pressing machine, like that guy speaks of… maybe people do? I don’t know. I dont4 remember people going on about it but you could pick out a pretty sweet compilation of his through balls from just last season… but he is getting on and we probably should have got someone in this window to secure our future, without dropping quality.
The lad that reds was mentioning is an interesting one as he can apparently play DM CM and AM. Of course it’s the DM and CM that are most important..but I don’t believe that we’ll sign a midfielder before the window closes.
I think Klopp is going to take a chance on the youngsters.August 10, 2022 at 3:26 am #2121507
Already brought up many times last season about how Henderson statistically was our worst midfielder defensively, not fit to be cover at #6 and mentioned several times about annoyed I get when he pulls out of challenges. Most recent was against Man City in the FA cup I believe. This “discovery” is nothing new and is just stuff I’ve posted across various platforms for a long time. While people are busy shitting on Jones, Keita and Ox, this has gone well under the radar. Still don’t think he’s in decline. Playing that way allowed for him to make almost 60 apps last season IMO.August 10, 2022 at 3:42 am #2121508
For the record, I don’t think Elliott is the solution either. The gaps he leaves are absurd. I get really irritated when I see Milner lumbering on alongside him because he needs guidance. He’s a young player and has a lot of good qualities but doesn’t have the defensive instincts required to play in our midfield. He’s been here long enough. Other players shouldn’t have to hold his hand during the game. Klopp is clearly aware of this issue and if I were him, I would get in Elliott’s ear about the realities of playing for this team at this level. A flashy highlights reel means nothing if you can’t do the job that’s required. In our current predicament, I think Bajcetic has the more appropriate skill set for what we currently need in midfield.August 10, 2022 at 3:50 am #2121510
Razor, i think its time for us to slowly phase out henderson. Hes already 32. He was poor against fulham (but so was everyone else to be fair).
We have a major rebuild on our midfield. Hendo thiago and milner are in their 30s. Keita Ox are always injured. Elliot and caravalho are probably too young to be first teamersAugust 10, 2022 at 7:28 am #2121516
Sean the sailorParticipant
Bajetic hasn’t even played in the pl razor. Your judging I’m off a few ganes in pre-season. Eliot hasn’t had a full season in the pl. he got a bad injury last season and is learning a totally new position
We improved when hendo went to 6 on sat. Sone real harsh stuff on here lately.
Now this week
Trent should be dropped
Bacetjic should be starting ganes for us.
Just think we need to calm down a bit after one disappointing result and performanceAugust 10, 2022 at 7:50 am #2121520
Exactly Sean. It’s one game, let’s give it a couple more eh? This is still pretty much the team that went very close to an unprecedented quadruple. We would have won the league if the fixture pile up because of the winter covid didn’t happen or if the ref at the eveton city game could actually do his job. Players are a year older which isn’t great for the elder ones but is for the likes of Elliot who we pretty much didn’t have last season. Now we’ve added Carvalho too.August 10, 2022 at 9:13 am #2121544
This is not a knee jerk reaction to anything. Our remaining fit midfielders are, Henderson, Fabinho, Milner, Elliott, Bajcetic and Carvalho. The last of which is more of a forward option anyway and should remain as such. Of that group, the first 2 pick themselves. Among the remaining 3, I’ve already highlighted the issues with Elliott. Milner is highly experienced but way too slow and a midfield of Henderson, Fabinho and Milner just screams “workhorse” and “slow”. Of all those options, Bajcetic is the most stylistically similar to Thiago. He’s already played against our next opponents in pre-season and put in a few good performances against teams at a decent level. Now is the time, when we have a strong team around him.August 10, 2022 at 11:10 am #2121576
Elliott might not look like the final product but he’d be a lot further along had hem not basically lost all almost all of last season. It’s probably too early for Bajcetic.
We need to buy but we won’t, so we’ve got to get by.August 10, 2022 at 1:34 pm #2121630
I’d sacrifice Bellingham to get 2 midfielders, 1 in this window and the other next summer.
