Agreed with you davinci on the left back issue. Klopp recently said that the ufea final still rankles him. Well if so he’ll remember Moreno opening the back door for Seville. No player means to play badly,i know but Moreno sometimes seems out of his depth… He should at least have some sort of challenger for good position… Who knows what Klopp has planned, maybe Klopp is going to coach the crap out of Moreno this preseason lol Then well have to call him Alberto Carlos hahaJuly 25, 2016 at 9:55 pm #1130721

Davinci, I know you’ve always championed the signing of Jackson Martinez and my argument 2-3 years ago was that he has never been tested outside of the Americas and Portugal. I have concerns that he hasn’t replicated that form over the past two years netting just five goals and one must question his ethics regarding his move to the mercenary magnet that is the Chinese Super League. Subsequently he lost his place in the Colombian National team too but if we are to lose Benteke we will need a fourth striker so maybe a punt may not be a bad idea to see if he can show the form he had prior to 2015. The only stumbling block (and a bloody big one) is matching the ridiculous salary he’s currently on (reported to be over a quarter of a million a week).July 27, 2016 at 9:02 pm #1133700
If we were to splash the cash on a striker would you guys really be happy with Martinez? Aubameyang is still at Dortmund, it would take some effort to get him but I reckon we would have enough with the sale of Benteke. A player like him would be a bold statement of intent and I would think that he would be our main striker ahead of Sturridge. So there would be no denying he would make the team better.July 28, 2016 at 7:54 am #1133964
Left back is more of a priority than a striker now. It is only pre-season but already Moreno has had a shocker against Chelsea and was the worst rated player.
I cannot see Klopp signing any new strikers, especially considering he plays with one striker most of the time , and we already have Sturridge, Origi, Benteke, Ings and even Firmino – although Benteke is most likely to be soldJuly 28, 2016 at 6:43 pm #1135179
Rob, yes I was a fan of Martinez. I have no idea of what his current form (last year) is like but I’d be happy to swap him for Benteke.
That said, my personal preference right now would be to have a proven striker (a la Aubameyang) as the main man and to have Studge etc as back up. But if Higuain (a player I don’t rate that highly) goes for £75m, then Aubameyang is gonna be at least that and I don’t think we can afford or attract him.
It really makes that euro final defeat hit home when you think what our options could be with CL this season.
Last night I watched us v Chelsea and altho we were understrengthed, so were they. But when the subs came on, they had bloody Batshuayi, Cuadrado and Pedro and we had the likes of Brannagan and Wisdom. Such a gulf in class and experience. They had pace, height and power nearly all over the pitch. For pace we had Mane and Moreno.
Our captain comes on and goes straight into his well-worn shell – driving us nowhere but crazy. And to think they still have the likes of Oscar, Hazard and Courtois to come in. I think they will be the team to beat this season esp as no euro football either.
I don’t like Firmino as a striker and I’m concerned Klopp keeps playing him there. Once Lala came on, alongside the two other Butterflies (Couti/Firmi) I knew it would take something special to equalise. Why we couldn’t just play Ings is baffling to me.
I know no Prem points were at stake, that they never had many chances either and parked the bus. But we lost. To Chelsea. Conceded from a set piece and failed to create any meaningful chances – so same problems as last 2 seasons. Not happy…PeaceJuly 29, 2016 at 8:21 am #1135548
davicni, agree about firminio. He has started the last 3 games up top. He droips off to much. He has come back overweight as well. When he is playing at full throttle he looks good when he is half interested, he gives the ball away far to much. I have my reservations about him and counbthino because they are to inconsistent. They need to step up and become our stars. Does this mean firminio is ahead of ings now?? I know its only pre-season but its a concern.
I think he added height with matip, kalvan and grujic. I dont think Gurjic is going to start though.
what team would ypou start the season with considering sahko could be injured
id go 4-2-3-1
cylne, matip, lovern, KAlavan (or new left full)
can, henderson (unless we get a new midfielder in)
mane, winjldium, couhtnio,
we need a new left full and we need a central midfielder badly. I dont understand if we have money we dont go for william carvalhio. he is gettable. No idea why we didnt go for Wynama. We need a beast in midfield.Im not confident going into the new season.July 29, 2016 at 9:58 am #1135692
Sean, as others, you are putting Karius as goalkeeper, it will be Migs?? Let see who is right as the season progresses.July 29, 2016 at 10:16 am #1135719
Firmino can play as a striker, but I’m not convinced that he should be playing there over someone like Ings, and I don’t think he will once the season gets underway. As the lads have said,Firmino is inconsistent, and tends to drift out of games a lot. Not what you want from someone who is leading the line. In contrast,Ings and Origi work hard for 90 minutes, and are well suited to Klopp’s pressing game. Firmino has to improve, without a doubt. Coming back overweight is just unprofessional. If I was manager, and he came back overweight,he wouldn’t be playing. Simple as thatJuly 29, 2016 at 12:15 pm #1136019
liverlad, the team above is what i would go. Not sure jurgen is thinking along the same lines. Would you start Mignolet or do you think klopp will?July 29, 2016 at 4:37 pm #1136565
Just my thoughts, time will tell whether I am right or wrong.July 29, 2016 at 8:14 pm #1136898
Looks like your right liver lad.
Karius out for two months. Broken hand ffs. Does this ever end for us.
I hope mignolet can prove a lot of us wrong and really show us what a good keeper he can beJuly 29, 2016 at 8:23 pm #1136916
The curse continues…good grief indeed. On the other side of the coin we do have a difficult start, maybe Karius will avoid a baptism of fire?July 29, 2016 at 8:25 pm #1136922
Mignolet has suffered the same fate as many good players here at Anfield, they have gone unchallenged into the team, nobody rivaling him for the nr 1 spot in the first eleven. For how many years did we cry out for a rightback to challenge Johnson, or a leftback to challenge Riise, now we have the same problem with Moreno. Same happened with Lucas who was the only defensive midfielder we had for 2 or 3 seasons. Same thing with Sterling and Ibe… Nobody to push them for their spot.
I got to say that I´m quite happy that Klopp had the sense to get Manninger in, he might be old but he got the experience needed to step in and deliver to his strengths. What ever strengths that might be… I don´t think he will break down like Jones or Bodgan. They had no spine but Manninger is so experienced.
I was looking forward to seeing Karius play in the first team, I actually think he is of very similar standard to Mignolet. He might even succeed in challenging him and making the spot his… There are not that many years ago that Ter Stegen was voted the second best goalkeeper in Germany, I think most of our fans would be talking about the title if he would have signed but how much further in his development is he than Karius? FCUKJuly 29, 2016 at 8:49 pm #1136949
If we bought stegen ,I would not be thinking we would make a title challenge. Our defence as a unit is shite.this team won’t finish in the top 4. Clynne is the only player who doesn’t make errors every few games.we need a keeper that can command his box. Stegen is like mignolet when it comes to try and catch crosses. Look at how many mistakes Stegan has made since he joined barcalina. We are a team riddled with mistakes. Human errors kill us. The defence can’t defend as a unit. We can’t defend crosses. One or two players can make a difference but we have to be able to on the same page as a back 5. You do make a good point about mignolet not having anyone to challenge him.
Mignolet is riddled with mistakes. I have absolutely no confidence in him. by the looks of it we be going into the arsenal game with mignolet and Moreno. It’s a huge accident waiting to happen.July 29, 2016 at 8:52 pm #1136952
Mikus, I’ve said it for years. We are cursedJuly 29, 2016 at 9:16 pm #1136991
No Sean I know you would not be glamouring for the title, you would be pessimistic as always. Until that brief moment of hope happens and you jinx us all… 😉July 30, 2016 at 11:10 am #1137441
I said he Migs would start(wink), but what a downer that Karius is injured.
My prediction will now be assigned to the bin.July 30, 2016 at 1:15 pm #1137624
Maybe it’s not the worst thing that Karius will now be eased into the team, rather than thrust in. Not that he seems to be lacking in confidence, but I’m sure by half-way through the season Karius will most likely be our number 1.July 30, 2016 at 1:56 pm #1137657
Jc, if/when that happens pal, it means mignolet has seriously fecked up again. This is mignolets last chance. I doubt he will take it. I’d say he has made at least 25 errors that have cost us goals since he joined.
Ye liver lad mate, it’s unfortunate. Just our luck
