Looking at the player we’ve bought and those we’ve expressed interest in it looks to me as if we’re preparing for a stay in the EFL. We’ve still got the rubbish that we had last year minus Carroll. If this is our ambition then I’ll be saying goodbye by Xmas unless SB has gone and we have someone decent as manager and a change in ownership (the main problem). I won’t be holding my breath anyway!

Depressing isn’t it, mainly due to the retention of SB as manager.
We could construct a half-decent team given a couple of subtle purchases and/or loans but only if there’s someone at the helm to galvanise them.
Steve Bruce isn’t that man. Probably we’ll wait until the start of the season has been wasted and we’re ten games in before he gets the sack and we’re trying in vain to play catch up. I can’t remember feeling this pessimistic about the Baggies.

I must admit I was more pessimistic last season once i saw how VI wanted to play. At least with Bruce, we know that given the right players, he can be successful in this league. It all really depends on who we can bring in ….. especially a goalscorer. Without a goalscorer, we’ll be no better than we were last season.

It’s a long time since Bruce was successful in this league. I get the feeling that the vestiges of his managerial expertise were lost at Newcastle and the fourteen or so games he had here showed little sign of reviving them. But I agree that appointing VI was possibly the worst decision ever made by the club.
