De Boer gone Hodgson in. Wow, Parish has lost his marbles. Probably a good partnership with Woy then

Can’t understand this appointment. Roy has done OK at mid table premier league clubs but he’s not a long term project is he. They’ve lurched from a sea change of style to trying to rescue a season with only 5 gone. Yes they’ve started appallingly but 5 games is just too soon. Whoever pushed for the FDB appointment needs to be sacked too. Where was the due diligence?

I agree. If you opt for a dynamic shift in strategy by appointing FDB, then you don’t lose your nerve so quickly, surely.

‘Woy’ is now seventy years of age, so must be thanking his lucky stars that a Prem club has come in for him.

I feel sorry for Palace fans.

I couldn’t imagine any club could have sloped so low to employ Roy Hodgson but palace have managed it. If I was a palace season ticket holder I would be demanding my money back.

Not only is Hodgson a poor manager, he a complete coward. Losing to Iceland is one thing, bad results happen in football, but the way he resigned straight after and refused to meet the media, and then when forced by the FA the next day only to sit there and say “I dont know what I am doing here, i’ve resigned” just shows a total lack of class and respect for the fans, both at home but especially to those who spent their hard earned money travelling out there.
He wanted no responsibility or flack after overseeing yet another disastrous england campaign. No explanations, no apologies, no acknowledgments and no thanks to the fans for their dedicated following.

In his Sky interview He cleverly points to his record of just 7 defeats in 56 games as England manager (8 defeats wasn’t it Roy?) but fails to acknowledge his frankly abysmal record of just 3 wins in 11 tournament games. Palace and Roy Hodgson you deserve each other.

Roy Hodgson is a part of the generation of sterile managers who have shown zero innovation or adaptability to how football has changed in the last 20 years.

For Palace to stoop as low as Allardyce was bad enough but at least he did a job and kept them up as he always does with relegation threatened sides. As for Hodgson – shocking appointment and one can only worry for Palace because he will no doubt suck any remaining enthusiasm from their squad which unfortunately could be bad news for a talented Manchester United youngster in Fosu-Mensah.

Frank De Boer was maybe naive in thinking that he could let Crystal Palace, a team whose main attributes are pace and power, play Total Football.
Even more naive are the people in charge who thought that he could make that transformation in just 5 matches.

I watched the Burnley – Palace match last Sunday and, to De Boer’s credit, they played some decent football and were incredibly unlucky to lose that match. It was a lot better than what we’d seen before. Not many teams get results at Turf Moor.

Now all that work that was put into pre-season and training will be washed down the drain, because Roy isn’t that into Total Football.

Palace is a decent side that have gotten far with hard work and some muscle. The appointment of FDB was obviously an attempt at trying to get them to play with more style. Bournemouth and Swansea have already proved that you can play good football and survive in the Prem without superstar players. Abandoning that quest after only 5 matches is of course total madness.

Roy got a tactical ass-whipping by Lagerback and Hallgrimsson in France and I think he’s over the hill. My money is on Palace to be relegated or at least very close.

Great shout from NOLU re Hodgson’s inexcusable lack of respect to the English fans in the immediate aftermath of the Iceland humbling.

I feel doubly sorry for the Palace fans – their board lost their nerve way too soon and have cocked up what could have been a pivotal leap forward for Palace, and to add to that they now have ‘Woy the arrogant old fart’. Commiserations, lads.
