Sanj but Hendo will still be there even with VVD as captain. Hendo is a very serviceable player but one move that he did stood out today which sums him up as an attacking player is when he received the ball in the middle third and then arced his run sideways and then did a sideways pass when a forward run or a through ball would have helped us with a quick break away.

Even Matip had a driving run into Everton’s half!!! Midfielders should be doing that not central defenders. Everton continued Trent and Robertson much better than Watford did and as such, we lost a little of our threat. We relied on too many wasted balls over the top.

When all is said and done today result for me was more about us not having a solution to the Coutinho situation more than Henderson’s deficiency as a midfielder.

Mwake, I’m not talking about dropping Hendo from the side. He does offer DM qualities we need, but the last two games where we needed six points & better goal difference I’ve seen goals from Van Dijk & leadership. Today when Fabinho lost the ball with a stray pass & we almost conceded, van Dijk tore him off a strip to get him focussed again. This is leadership we don’t see from Hendo & arguably we need that leadership now. We can’t replace Coutinho in the next 9 games, but we can make a fist of this title challenge before it’s too late. It’s a team effort but I think the player to lead it might be Van Dijk now. Ynwa

Hendo was only dropped into the holding midfield position by Klopp because he didn’t trust anyone else to do the job a few years ago.
Now we have an actual holding midfielder, one that could rival Mascherano, Hendo will move back to the position he played his best football at, right of midfield.
Klopp has always utilised his squad options in midfield across his various teams because he realises the amount of work they go through.
Whoevers most in form plays regardless of name or reputation. He’s had a meritocracy since he’s arrived.
    That won’t change.

I banged the drum last Jan that we needed another forward to replace Coutinho. I wasn’t happy that we let him go without a replacement then. I was told by many on here that we’d sort that in the summer. The problem still exists. We lost our opportunity to win the CL because of that move and I just hope we don’t regret it this season too.

I put my hands up and admit that I thought Keita could do a job of filling in for Ox and Coutinho. But that hasn’t worked out…yeah we put 5 past Watford but they never pressed us like Everton did. When we are pressed hard or midfielders have less time think and it’s there where you can see our weaknesses lie. A quixk thinking playmaker would have solved those issues. Can’t cry over split milk.

Sanj yes maybe making Hendo captain might make a difference in game but I think tactically we need to approach games difference from the start.

Has no one else noticed that when Hendo starts against one of the top 10 teams, we tend to NOT win it, unlike when he starts on the bench?

But Fabinho was poor yesterday as the DM and he continues to make too many unforced errors in what is usually going to be a dangerous position. Also, he has no recovery pace as demonstrated yet again when opposition midfielders just breeze past him and he takes the yellow card as the lesser of two evils. If we’re playing the one ‘6’ as yesterday, then I’d prefer it to be Henderson. That said, I’m not sure where Fabinho’s best position is. He reads the game well and is is better when facing the play. To be honest, he’s looked most at home at CB!

Keita played well againest Munich and Bournemouth then got sick.

Shaqiri has hardly played. We have nothing to lose now. Give them a run.

Shaqiri hasn’t played well since the turn of the year.
    Kieta is inconsistent.
Klopp sees them in training and how they’re performing.

But Shaqiri hasn’t had much of a run so he hasn’t had the chance to regain some form.Keita was building up a bit of form but got sick.

I think we brought in lalanna because richardlison was causing issues down the right. Lalanna out wide left does not work had shown many times. There were better and braver options in my opinion

Maybe we need to go back to 4-2-3-1 for some games?

The midfield yday is like something you would use in a European away game. This was Everton.

Nearly forgot to update this thread…mainly cos Hendo hasn’t really done much in the last 2 games.

Came on against Burnley when all the heavy lifting was done. Made no impact as sub, so 5.5/10.
Was tempted to say he made a fantastic contribution v Bayern by going off so early but that might be a bit cruel. Don’t want him to be injured; just don’t want him starting important matches.

    Hendo-Watch so far – 5/10, 4/10, 5/10, 6.5/10, 5.5/10, 6.5/10, 5/10, 7/10, 7/10, 6/10, 6/10, 7/10, 7/10, 6/10(RB), 8/10, 6/10, 5.5/10, 6/10, 5.5/10, 5.5/10…Peace

I highly doubt it matters even if Virgil let alone Hendo, is playing that Fulham game, its a guaranteed win for us.

The time was early January in 1995. Remember it well. We were hosting a terrible Ipswich team expecting to rout them. We’d just beaten a very good Arsenal team in the League Cup and had gone unbeaten for a couple of months. Confidence was high. Liverpool 0 Ipswich 1. A few weeks later they went to Old Trafford and they lost 9-0.

Wind the clock forward 5 years. Ipswich again, at home. We’d just come off three good results including an 8-0 win at Stoke in the League Cup and a win against Olympiakos in the UEFA Cup. Ipswich got beat at home to a dreadful Derby team the previous weekend. Liverpool 0 Ipswich 1.

Not going to mention Middlesbro ten years ago (which I still get counselling for) who pretty much drew or lost to most at teams at home that season but soundly beat us 2-0 after us winning at a stacked Real Madrid in our previous game. Oops, sorry I did mention it.

Do not discount any opposition we play. We are Liverpool and there’s a reason we haven’t won the league for almost three decades because of results like the above. Yes, we are a different outfit now but banana skins are still in circulation so beware of over confidence!

That we the fans are being cocky or over-confident has no bearing on the team what so ever, only if the players and the manager himself are and we all know it here that they are not like that. Every game for them is a final.

So dont worry if we the fans are cocky. We finally can and rightfully so!
