blueowner: my bad, Spurs it’s a home match. We have to be able to win this match. Otherwise we are not a candidate for top 4. I hope that we can get at leat 3 points from these 2 matches away at City and home at Spurs. I think City will beat Arsenal tonite relatively easy (Arsenal’s defense isn’t amongst the strongest) but Man Utd will beat Leicester. So we would have 2 points gap with the 5th place. Hopefully Leicester will steal points against Utd as Solskjaer’s honeymoon may be over, but I am not optimist.
February 3, 2019 at 9:40 am #1723052Yes a Leicester, Manchester City double would be nice. Don’t count it out with Leicester at home, I fancy them for a draw which would still be good. Agree City will take care of Arsenal.
February 3, 2019 at 1:51 pm #1723104a 5-0 victory against a mid table club would be great but not against currently one of the weakest teams to ever grace the EPL, okay it is a step forward for a change but lets see what happens when we play the big guns later in the month, IF we manage a top 4 at the end of the season I will be the first to say sorry sarri I may have been wrong about you but at the moment I have serious doubts, we cannot rely on winning the Europa cup to get into the CL or other teams beating United and Arsenal or lucky Spurs so its league wins we need.
February 3, 2019 at 4:34 pm #1723179Anyone who thought that there was going to be a seamless conversion from a counter attacking team to a PL version of Napoli on the back of just one outfield player signed in six months is a fool.
The positives on Saturday were the performance of Christensen,Higuain looking like the striker we’ve never had up till now and the inter play between Hazard and Higuain so early on.
You can only beat what’s in front of you and that was an impressive 5 nil win with three goals of such quality one from Hazard and two from Higuain that all three may well be contenders for Goal of the month. It makes you wonder where we might be now had we signed Higuain in the Summer.
Of course City and Spurs will be much more difficult challenges and February will be a very difficult month for the Club on all fronts we all know that but as long as we come out if it in touch with those challenging for 4th place we will be in with a real chance of securing 4th place especially now we have a proper striker that allows Hazard to play in his best position.
February 3, 2019 at 9:22 pm #1723225Relief!,job done although it seemed Huddersfield just laid down and rolled over, nevertheless,a good reaction after the 4-0 debacle of Bournemouth. Not jumping up and down in euphoria just yet,I’m looking for a bit of consistency in performance now,if we’re going to get 4th we’ll need to do our part and not take our foot off the pedal resting on our laurels after one good result. On to the next game
February 3, 2019 at 11:48 pm #1723236As expected, Arsenal lost and Man utd won. Seen the last 20 min on TV, Utd weren’t impressive at all though and they were lucky Leicester did not nick any equalizer. By saying that: I think if Sarri can keep his squad motivated (he says he has difficulty to motivate the players), we may be able to win at Old Trafford when we’ll face Man Utd. They played so bad against Leicester honestly. City the contrary, impressive. Dunno how we could lost against Arsenal. And then again Bournemouth. Next 2 matches will determine the top 6. My hope is that we can get 3 points from the next 2 matches against City and Spurs. I reckon City and Liverpool are a class apart. But Spurs: we should be able to win at home. Again: we lost against Bournemouth, Wolves. Anybody can beat us easily
February 4, 2019 at 8:01 am #1723257Following the midweek debacle, Sarri made changes and was looking for a reaction – and he got it. Perfect opponents for us to bounce back and improve the goal difference. Yes, Huddersfield were poor but these are the games we have to win and so expectations are high
Great to see Higuain get off the mark and to see how well he and Eden combined considering such little time to train together. Loved Barkleys pass to Eden for his second and feel that he should get an extended run if we are looking to take a game to the opponents
Very surprised that Rudiger was dropped but a decent game for Christensen who did little wrong. Must admit that I expected Hudson Odoi to start and when he did not to at least come on earlier than he did due to the scoreline. Really feel he could have had a field day
Overall have to say pleased with the game, the score and the general performance but must put this into perspective. It will be the next 2 games against City, and the ManU and Spurs games that will really let us know where we stand this season and whether or not we have a realistic chance of a top 4 spot or not.
