I thought we played rather well on Saturday considering we were playing with 10 men.
Morata did nothing Tammy Abraham couldn’t have done. Morata did one good thing in the game – he started the attack down the left that resulted in the penalty. Got to say we are going to struggle against tougher opposition if we persist with this clown upfront.
August 13, 2018 at 10:25 pm #1665343Bort… I just hope you’re wrong sir. Me reckons with Zola around the ground we’re going to see a sprinkling of more of top quality from our forwards. Let’s have a bet for a deep fried mars bar. I’ll say top goal scorer this season for us. Bit of a gamble, up for it?
August 14, 2018 at 7:49 am #1665378My mate went to Huddersfield and he reckons that Morata had a decent game. Did not do that much to influence the game but equally he did not get any chances
I think Sarri is well aware that Morata, like any decent striker, needs a goal to give him confidence so I am sure that he is working closely with him
Fingers crossed he can get off the mark against Arsenal and then he could be like a new signing for us. KTBFFH
August 14, 2018 at 8:32 am #16653941905,I watched the 90 minute re run of the game by Sky on Game of the Day and that was my impression too.
A couple of goals for Morata could be the making of him but they need to start flowing for him soon. Also once Hazard is restored to the team and Kovetic comes in I expect our chances created to improve too.
Seems like Sarri is of the same opinion “Against Huddersfield I think he was better than in pre-season.
“He needs to score, but every striker in the world needs to score.”.😊 Cheers 999August 14, 2018 at 9:48 am #1665432Moratas job is to score goals, if he plays well then its a bonus but thats not what his there for. I watched the game 3 times and yes he does have skill with the ball at his feet but I also noticed on the 3-4 crosses that came his way he was not prepared to put his foot or head in there. Lacked the desire to meet those crosses for whatever reason.
August 14, 2018 at 1:49 pm #1665574“Moratas job is to score goals” nobody on here would disagree with that Blaze but Morata improving his form is a first step towards doing that.
Morata is suffering from a crisis of confidence in respect of goal scoring as I said in my post above “A couple of goals for Morata could be the making of him but they need to start flowing for him soon. Also once Hazard is restored to the team and Kovetic comes in I expect our chances created to improve too.”
If it doesn’t happen for Morsta soon then I suspect Sarri will change things around currently though Sarri seems commited to giving Morata every chance to regain his confidence in front of goal in the hope he comes through for him. I’m sure we all hope for that.
August 14, 2018 at 2:18 pm #1665588I can see why Sarri is going to try and stick with Morata, at least for a while. He is a talented footballer who currently appears to have lost his confidence in front of goal. But we have all heard the old adage that a goal or 2 is the making of any striker and they thrive off confidence so a couple of decently taken goals could easily re-ignite Morata’s career
Sarri knows this but also knows that he needs to players to adapt to his style to provide as many chances as possible to Morata so overall it is a matter of patience to see how quickly the whole team can adapt as well as for Morata to keep applying himself. KTBFFH
August 14, 2018 at 3:06 pm #16656071905 and everyone,
This issue isn’t Morata link up play and do all the bit and pieces the problem is goals and every club he has played for (except 1 year coming off the madrid bench) he has lack goals.
Morata had a offside chance about 5 minutes in that at the time had no idea that he was offside. The effort that proceeded from him was limp with no conviction. The lack of composure and execution was poor. The dude can’t even score when he is offside.
Hes been doing it the whole time:
August 14, 2018 at 3:11 pm #1665608Bort, we are where we are.
Sarri s trying to give Morata every chance to find himself in front of goal if Morata doesn’t do that over probably 6 or 7 games then Sarri will change things around but Sarri is not playing with a very strong hand is he and he might have to try something unconventional.
August 14, 2018 at 3:45 pm #1665625Bort – regardless of what you are thinking, and no one is saying that Morata is not scoring, but the window is shut and so we have to assume that Sarri can more out of him. That has to be the thinking if we did not buy another striker so lets get behind them both and hope that it finishes with a happy ending…? KTBFFH
