Do we go with both Sturridge and Benteke up front against Man City if Studge is fit to start, or do we go with just one? The rumour is, Sturridge may be back (although we have heard that before, haven’t we?) I think Klopp will go with just the one up front, and the extra body in midfield, especially if Aguero and Silva come back. Still gutted about Sakho personally. Hopefully Lovren steps up and starts performing. We’re going to need the whole back 4 in top form on Saturday night
November 15, 2015 at 9:31 am #706219I don’t think we will ever see two start up top under klopp mate. He seems to like 4-2-3-1. The thing is how do you fit both into the team? Would sturridge play in no 10 role or coming from the side? I think sturridge will be in the bench the next few games. That’s if he is fit to come back.
Be really interesting to see how klopp can fit both in. It’s a good problem to have. Just our luck silva and sugero be back but if we play like we have done in recent weeks, we can get a result. This is lovrens chance now. It’s a fresh start for him and he had to prove his doubters wrong
November 15, 2015 at 12:16 pm #706384I actually like Sturridge wide right. He has the ability to run at defenders, cut inside and pull the trigger.
Expected date of return by the way, next Saturday – hope he starts against City.
November 15, 2015 at 2:23 pm #706486If Sturridge is fit and I mean fit, I would absolutely find a place for him in the team. If Klopp doesn’t want to play 2, Sturridge can play just behind Benteke or wide, although I would prefer him more central due to his finishing ability.
November 15, 2015 at 5:27 pm #706591Heard from several people that Klopp and his team are pushing the players exceptionally hard in training as they were astonished at so many players supposedly being unfit.
Apparently the one player who has struggled a lot is Sturridge who has been throwing up during and after training – with Klopp and his team not wanting to pick him without that underlying fitness.
When he does pick him I’m looking forward to seeing how he performs when properly fit.
November 15, 2015 at 8:08 pm #706732I can’t say I’m too surprised about that, Beni. It would be impossible to stay very fit with all those injuries. Even them aside, I imagine Sturridge as being less self motivated in training than some of the others. .
thing is though, if he is fit enough to play then we must use him. He’s absolutely deadly and slots right into the attacking side of Klopps “heavy metal” football, if not so much the defensive side of it yet. By this I’m talking about how quickly he can one-two or generally just tear at a team once possession is regained.
It seems to me that whenever we have Sturridge in the team, the tempo we play at increases. he must be included.
November 15, 2015 at 9:18 pm #706810Both Studge and Benteke know where the net is and assuming they’re both fit to start I can see Klopp picking both, how he plays them would obviously be his decision but I think they could both be effective. YNWA JFT96
November 15, 2015 at 9:20 pm #706813WIB, top input mate, and appreciated that. Players need to be alligned properly when it comes to the day-to-day training; no room for slackers, it’s as simple as that.
November 16, 2015 at 8:23 am #707107Agreed Nil, well said chap. Yup agree fully.
November 16, 2015 at 10:55 am #707425its a pity youknighted only appears on here to troll nil. it’d be good to talk football with him – he’s always worth listening to (on football)
November 16, 2015 at 11:44 am #707485Cheers WIB, try not to let that kind of thing get to me.
Obviously as I’m aware, you and Taxi got close links to the ground etc, so I take your word for it. If there is some ‘acting up’ in training, then of course, it’s fundamental.
We can’t afford to keep going round in circles of players (the same ones) being injured and not really contributing to the first team over the course of the season.
November 16, 2015 at 4:46 pm #7078932 things…Firstly I can’t imagine Sturridge will be fit…I am so used to him not playing now, it’s farcical. Obviously one should have sympathy for a player blighted by injury, but it is becoming difficult with Studge. The rumours coming are that he isn’t prepared to play through any sort of pain barrier and if that is true, it’s not good enough frankly. Secondly if he is fit I can’t imagine Klopp would put him in the starting line up straightaway. I’d have him on the bench and use him if and when we need him….match fitness and all that.
November 17, 2015 at 6:11 am #708196Heard the rumours myself but personally I don’t believe them just looking at the type of player he is on the pitch, giving his all.
Regardless I’d like to give the lad the benefit of the doubt, he’s had so many injury issues recently, maybe he’s just trying to give himself the best opportunity to not breakdown again.
As said thou, the guy is lethal on his day, even more so then Benteke so if fit he plays.
November 17, 2015 at 8:07 am #708280Apparently the club are willing to take their time with Sturridge and will only play him if he can complete 10 training sessions.
It’s been proven before when he has been rushed back from injury before he’s fully ready that he can break down completely. While we have Benteke there, why take the risk?
Having said that I’d imagine Sturridges Liverpool career, and possibly footballing career, hinges on these next 5/6 months and whether he can play most games. Only time will tell now.November 17, 2015 at 9:34 am #708379Exactly Ginger – been hearing that Klopp thinks he has to be 100% before playing, building core strength and stamina, and that way he may just get some resilience to the sort of injuries he has been getting
November 17, 2015 at 11:40 pm #709447Ya, Klopp has suggested that Sturridge needs to play through the pain early on in his time here, or words tot hat effect. . but I’m thinking that he’ll now be a little more familiar with his injury history and also he’ll now have watched every goal he’s scored. Given that he’s a sensible guy, I think he’ll see that Sturridge is still worth the effort. I agree that the next 5-6 months could define his career here but 5-6 months is a long time for Klopp and his team to work on Sturridge.
November 18, 2015 at 8:22 am #709621its good, if true, that he has to go through 10-12 really tough sessions before he is considered. The chap has been nearly injured for 15 months now. When he came back last jan he faded after 3/4 games. What an asset this lad is when fully fit. His goals per game ratio is outstanding. I just really hope he can stay injury free now. We have literally been playing without our best player for over a season now.
It is very hard to be confient about him being fit as the minute we heard it was a minor injury on the 17th of cot , we all knew he would be out for much longer. Now its a fr4esh start. New manager and hopefully for sturridge to get fully fit. I cant wait to see how klopp intends to fit him and bentke in. In my opinion, when fully fit, these two are lethal strikers and can get us the gaols we need.
November 18, 2015 at 9:35 am #709729Haven’t read anything from Klopp that’s suggests Sturridge needs to play through the pain barrier. Would be interesting to see that interview.
November 19, 2015 at 1:41 am #710671Well google is your friend Ginger.
November 20, 2015 at 6:19 am #712303Again people making assumptions that the guy doesn’t give his all and doesn’t want to play through pain. Could he be trying to get to a point where he doesn’t break down straight away …
