It’s about the timr the rumours start flowing apart from the obvious what do fans want to see in this window?
Will we get a CB?
Oh yes we will
Oh no you wontDecember 23, 2020 at 10:40 am #1904410A few things would need to happen to set the wheels in motion for any significant transfer activity. The reality is that if we want to sign a foreign player in any position, then we need to sell at least 1 foreign player that is taking up a squad spot. If we’re also paying big money for a CB, we’ll need to raise those funds as well. The way I see it, that would be 1 of Origi, Shaqiri or Wijnaldum AND Phillips. Seeing as Gini is still 1 of our key players and Shaq is a valuable option in several positions when he’s fit, that would mean Origi would have to be sold alongside Phillips. Realistically for those 2 players we’d be looking at 30-40mil so unless those 2 players are leaving, I don’t really expect anything to happen. The other thing is that VVD is reportedly progressing well in his rehabilitation so we might see him return before the season is up.
December 23, 2020 at 10:59 am #1904416In all honesty I can’t see anyone one else being bought for the senior squad this coming window other than a centreback.
Rumours abound about Origi leaving this window.
Apart from that I can’t see much.
Problem I have is what kinda centreback can you buy in Jan with limited funds.
Keeping in mind Upamecano is available for £36mil in the summer.Matip I believe is a fantastic centreback unfortunately the major issue is his availability. It’s simply too infrequent.
December 23, 2020 at 11:21 am #1904422No signings required.
But there may be some outgoings
December 23, 2020 at 11:29 am #1904426Not that I think we’ll be after any of these but interesting that players of this quality are available for free soon or very little in Jan.
🇳🇱 Memphis Depay
🇦🇹 David Alaba
🇮🇹 Gianluigi Donnarumma
🇫🇷 Florian Thauvin
🇩🇪 Julian Draxler
🇪🇸 Sergio Ramos
🇵🇱 Arkadiusz Milik
🇹🇷 Hakan CalhanogluLiverpool FC can negotiate pre-contact agreements in January – would you take any for free? 🤔
December 23, 2020 at 11:34 am #1904427There’s also the not so small issue of French football financially imploding and will be wanting to offload players very soon.
I’ll take Mbappe, thanks.
Side note…sign Gini up ASAP!
December 23, 2020 at 12:09 pm #1904438I reckon when VVD makes love. He is slow, smooth and erotic. But if he wants to get a quick one in before morning training. He goes fast, hard and rough.
December 23, 2020 at 1:20 pm #1904455Is that how you like to take it?
December 23, 2020 at 1:31 pm #1904456@ginger.. I’m not sure any of those would be a good fit tbh. Donnarumma won’t want to sit on the bench. I doubt Depay contributes enough defensively to pique our interest. Draxler’s career pretty much went off a cliff the moment he joined PSG. Always thought Milik was a good player but he’s injury prone and I think he’s frozen out at Napoli right now anyway. Calhanoglu might be a good shout for a Shaq replacement. Other than that, I don’t see anything there that’s significantly better than what we have.
December 23, 2020 at 1:35 pm #1904457As I said at the start of the post I don’t think we’ll be after any of those either.
Just kinda illustrating the quality of footballer possibly available.
I’d maybe take Alaba on a free because of his quality and versatility but I think his wages would be an issue.I still think the most we’ll sign in Jan is a centreback….and I’m not convinced by that by any means.
December 23, 2020 at 4:22 pm #1904499For those discussing Sanches (in the other thread), the rumour came from The S*n, so it is most likely just made up
December 24, 2020 at 9:56 am #1904686According to rumours Gini will sign 4 years contract with Inter in summer.
If we have to lose him for nothing in June do U beleive that it is a good idea to swap Gini with Brozovic in January or to let Gini’s contract finish in summer??
Of course the ideal solution is to keep him with a new contract.December 24, 2020 at 2:01 pm #1904758Can we skip the silly season?
December 24, 2020 at 2:38 pm #1904765Apart from the fact we need a senior centre back, players may be leaving and the new rule kicks in for buying youth players next week.
December 24, 2020 at 3:38 pm #1904781I dont think we will buy a centerback, Williams has proven himself to be very useful and I reckon Klopp will continue to use him from now on… We might buy one next summer though…
Its going to be a quiet window with us snapping up a few youth players and thats it…
We are gonna have the usual suspects herr moaning about the lack of activity…
December 24, 2020 at 4:22 pm #1904788I would not be at all surprised if Matip picks up an injury again that keeps him out for 6/8/10 weeks.
That leaves zero senior centre backs available and when the CL starts back up again games will be coming thick and fast against tougher opposition or opposition that have more at risk.
There’s a world of difference between playing a CL group game and a knock out fixture.Another senior centre back is required ASAP.
December 24, 2020 at 5:37 pm #1904790We need another centre back big style
December 24, 2020 at 6:16 pm #1904795I think I already found the moaners…
December 24, 2020 at 7:25 pm #1904807Song, NO signings required? WTH?
We’ve lost both Gomez and Virg for probably the rest of the season; we have Matip who, despite being a top defender when fit, is made of polystyrene; two young and relatively inexperienced centre halves in Phillips and Williams and we are currently employing our first choice defensive mid as a centre half who really is needed (preferably) as part of the defensive dept. of our midfield (that’s what he was bought for) to help Gini and Hendo.
We need a centre half and think we’ll get one. There’s two areas you don’t piss about with and that’s keeper and centre half. If Fab goes down again we are f***ed.
Nope.
December 25, 2020 at 8:19 am #1904823We will sign a centre back. It just makes sense financially. At the moment we are at least in with a shout of retaining the league and are well placed to have a tilt at the Champions League. In terms of profile and sponsorships theres literally tens of millions at stake for each knockout CL round and for each spot in top 4. Anything we spend on a CB will be spread over 4 years of amortisation anyway. So it just doesn’t make sense not to buy a defender, considering Matip, our only senior defender, is likely to be out again and Fabinho who has been injured this season and isnt, at least on paper a CB, cant do it all by himself! William’s has been great, and is fully deserving of his place now as a squad player but we need to be better stocked or we will fall away on both fronts and with the way the league is looking there is no guarantee of top four if injuries and covid further weaken us. We are just starting to get our rhythm this season and should be eyeing up a famous double, theres a lot at stake in terms of profile, in terms of getting the best out of salah and mane at their peak, in terms of convincing future signings and importantly theres a lot of money up for grabs! so cant see us not signing a defender.
