So your whole argument is that he got paid 1.6 million a week and thats it? How does that counter the fact that we had talks with him when he could have signed as a free agent? Or do you think the club was obligated to match that offer by some reason?

Sky Sports News chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol:

“From a career point of view, maybe it makes most sense for Bellingham to go to Real Madrid later in his career.

“It’s not a move he has to make now. From a footballing point of view, I think Liverpool is the perfect move for him in the summer.

“People have asked whether Liverpool could compete if they got into a bidding war with the likes of Man City and Real Madrid, assuming those two would be able to pay more than Liverpool.

“I don’t think that’s the case. If you look at Man City in recent times, there’s been plenty of occasions where they have walked away from deals where they have felt the valuation has been wrong.

“I don’t think Real Madrid have more money to spend in the transfer market than Liverpool either. From everything we’re hearing, Liverpool is his most likely destination in the summer.”

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg on The Transfer Show:

“We all think Bellingham will leave this summer, and that there is no chance Dortmund can keep him at this stage.

“But he has a contract without a release clause, so the price tag is very high. Dortmund want to have between €100m-€150m for him in the summer.

“There are three targets for him – Real Madrid, Man City and Liverpool.

“We hear that Liverpool is one of the favourites, and Jurgen Klopp is pushing, pushing, pushing for him and says he is his number-one transfer target.

“Klopp hasn’t spoken to Bellingham personally yet, but the conversations have been held with people like Julian Ward. Now they just have to work out who is paying the money.”

Everyone’s focused about who’s coming in (understandably because of our midfield dilemma) but who’s likely to leave this window or the summer.

    Those who’s contracts run out..
    Milner
Ox (talk of possible move this window)
    Kieta
    Adrian
    Firmino (talk of new contract)
    Melo

Those who it’s possible we could cash in on…
    Philips
    Kelleher
    Tsimikas
    Gomez
    Matip
    Fabinho
    Jones

Some of those are more likely than others.
Kelleher likely to fetch the most out of those.

Of those you have listed there, Ginger, I would be disappointed if Tsimikas, Kelleher or Fabinho left the club, and probably Gomez as well. I think we’d struggle to get a better reserve left back or keeper than Kostas or Kelleher, neither of whom will be on big wages. Fab is a difficult one, as I keep hoping he will recapture his form of 18 months ago, but admittedly it is beginning to look like that may be a false hope, so if we can find a buyer who would pay him what he wants then maybe I can see the logic. Gomez, I would keep…never want him to be a first choice, but I think, on balance, I’d keep him. Philipps – surprised he hasn’t gone already in all honesty. He’d do a more than decent job for lower end Premiership teams in my opinion, and would not cost the earth. Will be sad when big Joel leaves the club. Hugely underrated even when he was at his peak by all but Liverpool fans. A skilful centre back who very rarely let the club – unfortunate with injuries as we all know, and I guess they will happen more and more often as he gets older. And finally, Curtis…can go! Shame as it’s good having another Scouser in the team, but just not up to the required standard, I’m afraid.

Interesting debate to be had though.

Hightowm, would love to keep Kelleher. Not many better no2s but I can see him wanting to play first team football. And he’s the obvious option to make good money.
Re Tsimikas, really good backup left back, probably best we’ve had in a long time, but we have several young left backs coming thru so we may cash in on him and utilise one of the young ones.
Fabinho probably the least likely out of that list to move but his form is a big problem at the min (has been for a while now) and the fact we were prepared to spend £80mil on another defensive midfielder in the summer suggest that perhaps we were open to him moving on.
Gomez another one on the low likelihood side of moving this summer. Contracted until 2027 and can play at least 2 positions but his form is a big worry, and again has been for quite some time. Could fetch decent money when we need to revitalise the centreback situation.
Matips contract runs out in 2024, he’ll be nearly 33. This summer represents the best chance of us getting anything back from him but again I don’t think it’s likely. Will probably leave on a free.
Some suggestions about that Philips might leave this window as there’s some interest and Williams has been recalled.

Yeah, Rhys Williams will never make it. A mate of mine is a season ticket holder at Blackpool, and he is amazed that he ever got a game for Liverpool. If he couldn’t get in the Blackpool team in the lower reaches of the Championship, didn’t make a mark at Swansea, he’s obviously got no chance at Anfield. He’s so slow, and his footballing peak will undoubtedly be the games he played for us, helping us scrape in to the CL a couple of years ago.

I must admit my knowledge of what we have coming through is sketchy to say the least, but with the exception of Badge and going back a few years, Trent, the record we have of bringing home grown players through is really not great. Curtis should get us a few quid in the transfer market, but of the others, Williams, Morton, Clarkson, Morgan, Duncan, Bradley, Lewis (the list is endless) there has been nothing to excite us. Maybe Gordon will be the exception, but as, I think Rob mentioned in a recent thread, all our youngsters seem to be all tiny. Where are the units like Bellingham? They all seem in the need of a good meal!

Tyler Morton is performing very well for Blackburn.
Currently sitting 4th in the c/ship.
He plays week in week out and getting good reports.

Yeah, I’ve heard that, but can you honestly see him in a side that is challenging at the top end of the Premiership? It’s early I know, but I’d be very surprised if he ever turns out regularly for us, wouldn’t you?

It’s not very common to produce your own players that go straight into the team.
It’s more a way of generating finance.

However saying that, not every player has to be a nailed on first team starter, we also need squad players. And if he can do a job like that for a coupla years, get some first team mins under his belt, he’ll probably be worth more when we want to sell.

Milan Skriniar, centreback for Milan, turns 28 next month, contract runs out in the summer. Has won the Italian league, cup and Europa league. Has a very good injury history. Reportedly on £90k a week.
Worth chasing considering our upcoming centreback issues?

Stefan Bajcetic has signed a new long-term contract until 2027.

Excellent move, Klopp realised the biggest clubs in the World would come calling for him if he keeps improving at a rapid rate, like he’s doing now.

Klopp “There was a door – I’m not even sure it was open – but he ran through it and he was really exceptional.”. Fabinho had better watch out.

Bajcetic is 18, Bellingham is 19, Caicedo is 21.

Meanwhile our first choice midfield: Fabinho is 29, Thiago is 31, Henderson is 32. But the main problem is that Fabinho and Thiago are both too slow, while Thiago is injury-prone.

Although for context, the Real Madrid midfield that beat us in the CL final, was even older i.e. Casemiro (30), Kroos (32), Modric (36). But they replenished their midfield, by signing Tchouaméni (22), and now use Camavinga (20), Valverde (24) and Cebbalos (26) more often – while still retaining Modric and Kroos, for their exceptional talent.

I can clearly see our midfield being rebuilt over the summer, with youth, pace, energy, talent and crucially robustness, being the main focus.

Great news about Bajcetic Songman. He’s been quite possibly the biggest positive to take away from this season so far. Bright future ahead of this lad for sure.

Real Madrid don’t play a high intensity pressing game which allows players like Modric, Kroos to last longer.
Kroos is out of contract this summer.
    I don’t see/hear of any talk of a renewal.

Sure, but Modric and Kroos are also much better, and more robust, midfielders than Henderson and Thiago (their equivalents).

Modric won Ballon d’Or in 2018, while Kroos was named on the ten-man shortlist for FIFA’s Golden Ball award for the tournament’s best player, when Germany won World Cup in 2014.

Maybe they’re more robust because they don’t have to play a high intensity, pressing game in a more robust, high intensity league.
    Hendo in particular.

Joao Gomes deal to Wolves for €17mil looks iminent.

I wonder does that free up Ruben Neves?
