A couple of Italian clubs apparently lining up £18mil bids for Kante in January. Personally, I’d bite their hands off. I love Kante, but I fear he is a busted flush. I’d be highly reluctant to give him a new deal, so I’d take the money now rather than nothing in the summer.
We need to keep a Kante, and when he is fit play him less, instead relying on him to the point where we run him into the ground having to cover for Jorginho
I think everyone would want Kante to stay if he could play more games the problems is his injury record he’s hardly played at all this season and in the previous 2 seasons he’s been hitting circa 50% of the games and he will be 32 next season.
The Club clearly want him to stay as they’ve offered him a new contract of 2 years with a 1 year option the sticking point is Kante wants 3 years with a 1 year option which perhaps understandably the Club currently aren’t prepared to go to without his injury record that might have been another story.
If no new contract is agreed by January then he can sign a pre contract with a European Club and move on a free in the Summer which would probably make it unlikely that someone will pay £18m for him in January?
I still think something might be worked out but January isn’t far away.
Somewhat ambivalent about offering Kante a contract extension considering his persistent injury woes.No denying that he’s an invaluable asset to us when he’s fit but imo the operative word ‘fit’ is few and far between,it’s a major issue and the situation is getting worse progressively with no chance of improving.I suppose you can’t blame Kante for driving a hard bargain asking for 3 more years but I got a feeling Kante knows that if he doesn’t get what he wants from Chelsea another European team will take a chance on him as no or hardly any transfer fee will be involved.I really think it’s time us to get real and realise that we just can’t count on Kante’s playing availability anymore,far too hit and miss for a club with EPL title and Champs Lge contenders aspirations.
Having surgery as part of the procedure to recover from a hamstring injury suggests that they intend to permanently correct the recurring problem.
Having had the surgery and 4 months out of the game would it not be wise to give him one last try at Chelsea. He is still class and I’m assuming that would be their intention whether he comes off contract or not. In the meantime both parties need to agree to the contract offer put on the table. He wants an extra year and possibly Chelsea want to see how well he has recovered before making such a commitment.
Kante makes a massive difference to the team. I agree with you 1967. Get him under a contract, and if for whatever reason we do decide to let him go, he will still be a good saleable asset. He is still a world class player. We need players like him to help bring throughsome of our younger players
I think at the end of the day it might well come down to the Specialists assesment of whether Kante can recover and play regularly.🤞
Also worth remembering he’s currently on circa £300k per week, reportedly. Hell of a lot of money for a player that barely kicks a ball these days. If he’d sign a 2 year deal on a lot less money, I’d say yes. But neither of those things are likely.
One thing I’m sure we can all agree on though, is that we don’t let him end up at the spuds!

Spot on re Kante and Spurs BL although it would be out of our hands in the Summer.

This is real bad luck year with everything that’s happened, on top of all that we have the worst possible draw in the FA cup as well, so we out the top 6, out the League cup, probably going out the FA cup, maybe we can have a good go at the CL. We going to have to start all over again.

Chelsea will be happy to listen to offers’ for Hakim Ziyech when the transfer window re-opens for business next month, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
Ziyech has a good world cup and I hope it should increase his value. We should also listen to offer for Pulisic, Havertz, who clearly don’t add anything to the squad. Kanté I hesitate. If he’s fit, he’s a hell of a player, one of the best players in the world

I see Broja seriously injured his knee in today’s friendly and is out probably for the remaining season or almost. Probably will now bring in another striker from somewhere.

No we shouldn’t. We shouldn’t go for another panic buy. Enough with these panic buys, be patient. Look at our initial targets (supposedly, not sure about the truth), but we were rumoured to be interested in Tchouameni, Dembélé, Koundé, Lewandowski, all good players and performed well so far at the World Cup. Just for one reason or another we were not able to get them and we ended up with Aubameyang, Cucurella, Zakaria … We should from now on aim correctly and not go all directions like we did in the summer that sounded like panicking. We are already low in the table, so I even would prefer not to buy in January and try to maximize the players we have
