We have a manager who clearly believes in his system and wants players he knows that fit that (if possible). Jorginho came, looked good initially but is being found out and just is not used to being hounded so quickly by physical players. If he can adapt to that then nothing to say he will not be a decent buy for us
Higuain was a revelation under Sarri at Napoli and he/they obviously believe they can recreate what happened a couple of years ago. From what I have seen of the player he looks overweight and while he may take time to adapt to the EPL he should not need any time adapting to the Sarri style of football
For me it is a calculated gamble to get us a CL spot and I would not want to commit to anything longer than the end of the season to see how it works out. He may be a revelation and be exactly what we and Sarri are looking for as so many posters are happy to point out, we have seen so many false dawns it is far better to be prudent and think the worst. Bottom line for me, is that I seriously do not think he could be any worse than Morata and we should still have Giroud as another option if this does not work out…? KTBFFH
January 14, 2019 at 2:58 pm #1716605Higuain is having a bad season at AC and at the age of 31 probably in decline, let’s not forget as well the EPL is a much tougher league.
January 14, 2019 at 3:13 pm #1716611I remember the devil himself Conte threw all his rattles out of the pram at this stage last season and we ended up with led legs… It was him or Llorente… Both world beaters.
Six months with a pie eater who can shoot from outside and inside the box… Lets be having some gravy with that chaps. To be fair to Higauin, He cant be any worse than what we have so is an improvement on paper before he moves. Just hope he stays out of the east end pie and mash shops….
January 14, 2019 at 3:20 pm #1716613Will we be able to sing who ate all the pies to Higuain? Me thinks he should be signing for West Ham for the east end pie and mash shops….
We’ve still not signed anyone yet. Fabregas has gone with Michy so two out the door.
January 14, 2019 at 3:33 pm #1716617Agree with most here re Higuin, not worse than what we have got, i will accept a loan till the end of the season and who knows he might prove me wrong which i will be more than happy with. having said all that, history tells us that January panic buys don’t bode well with Chelsea and cannot really recall a successful signing at this stage for along time. someone mentioned the W Ham striker ( Arnautivic…? ) wanting out, i think he might be the stop gap we need and will not cost 75m!
January 14, 2019 at 3:57 pm #1716631I know Higuain is Sarri’s choice but to be honest I don’t think he’ll pull up any trees if we got him his best days are behind him,he won’t come cheap and he looks like he’s carrying some excesss timber,I’m sure the club at one stage vetoed a move for him some time ago claiming he was too old, don’t understand why we’re suddenly interested again!..Not totally struck on another of Sarri’s choices,Gorginho either if I’m totally honest,I’m looking closely and watching and still can’t see what the big deal is about him.
January 14, 2019 at 7:57 pm #1716693At least Higuain submitted a transfer request, which means he is motivated to come to Chelsea. I am just afraid that the deal is not simple to materialize, meanwhile we miss the date to call Tammy back. We would end up again with Giroud and Morata for the remaining of the season, which will not be ideal at all.
Also it seems that Zenit wants 40m Euro for Paredes, which is way higher than our valuation 27m pound (if I’m not mistaken = 30m Euro)
January 15, 2019 at 8:02 am #1716768According to reports today it appears that we have submitted a bid for Paredes. Must admit that I know nothing about him but from what I read when the papers compared the 2 midfielders we were reportedly interested in the general feeling was that this guy is much more of a direct replacement for Fabregas, which is what we need
Don’t think we really had any intention of recalling Tammy as the Club are more than happy for him to continue playing for Villa or even Wolves if they get the Fifa issues resolved. I think they want him back next year fully confident in his own ability with a solid season of playing regularly behind him
All reports indicate Higuain in and Morata out which so long as it is only for short term, even with a view to buy, makes sense to me (in a warped kind of way). Both Higuain and Sarri feel they can feed off each other and benefit each other so I just hope that the spark is still there. Agree with comments about Higuain having to adapt to the EPL, however, if he stays in and around the box from what I read he is a natural goal scorer so we need to provide the chances for him (fingers crossed). If it is going to happen then I just want to get this over the line as quickly as possible so he as much time as possible to settle down in London. KTBFFH
January 15, 2019 at 2:55 pm #1716920Higuain unlikely to start in the Italian super cup with some reports claiming he could be here by the end of the week with Morata moving to Atletico
While not convinced this is going to work or in our long term interests my feeling is that if Sarri is committed and believes in the move then get the player here as quick as possible and get him on the pitch banging them goals in the back of the net (a hat rick against Spurs would be an ideal introduction to life in West London….!!). January 15, 2019 at 3:44 pm #1716928If Milan lose Higuain, they will buy Piatek. If Piatek is available in January, why wouldn’t we buy Piatek? He is younger, his form is good as he is scoring goals for Genoa.
Anyway I also hope that we will wrap up our targets quickly.
January 15, 2019 at 4:34 pm #1716939RLC possibly out all season?
January 15, 2019 at 4:42 pm #1716940999 – read that he may need back surgery. That is not good at all. When I had a bad back my surgeon warned of surgery as the back is still a very unknown area and he felt it would only weaken my back in the long term
Assume of course that RLC would get top treatment and rehabilitation (unlike myself being a mere mortal) so maybe he could return to playing but must admit if that is what is required for someone so young then personally I fear the worst
Hope that I am completely wrong and that RLC is able to confirm and establish his career at Chelsea for many years to come. KTBFFH
January 15, 2019 at 4:46 pm #1716943Aindro, “If Piatek is available in January, why wouldn’t we buy Piatek? He is younger, his form is good as he is scoring goals for Genoa”.
Because it’s about the Manager’s choices and we have to give him his head and time as 1905 rightly pointed out Klopp has had more than 3 years. Guardiola is into his third season, and Poch has had more than 4 years whilst Sarri has been here circa just 6 months and has only been able to sign one outfield player.
There are no magic wands it takes time to build something meaningful and the Manager rightly or wrongly has to make his own decisions if he’s wrong with his decisions and he fails both we and he know the consequences but you can’t judge any Manager on 6 months with his hands tied behind his back!
January 16, 2019 at 10:16 am #1717106From what I am reading we seem to be totally focussed on trying to bring in a striker with Higuain top of the list and if he joins then Morata could be on his way
we then are looking for a midfield replacement for Fabregas and again it appears we are in advanced talks with Paredes from Zenit
I also read that Luiz’s agent confirmed talks are on-going for Luiz to stay and that apparently there are not the blocking issues that some have reported and by that I can only assume he refers to the length of contract
Time will tell as always but would be good to get these issues resolved as early as possible. KTBFFH
January 16, 2019 at 10:41 am #1717125When does the transfer window close? As per form, we’ve still not signed anyone.
January 16, 2019 at 11:14 am #1717138End of this month as far as I am aware..? KTBFFH
January 16, 2019 at 11:38 am #17171471905… thats about two weeks left… Have we signed anyone yet?
I tell thee, I tell thee 1905…. I’ve missed Borts lists…
Bort sir… Where is the only thing I read about transfers I give any credibility to through the transfer windows and silly season… See a name linked in the papers, I usually turn to your no nonsense list of names with rating as the definitive source of knowledge.
January 16, 2019 at 11:42 am #1717148Has anyone signed anyone yet out of the top 6? Very quickly window so far.
Higuain missing from Milan Group photo in Saudi?
January 16, 2019 at 11:51 am #1717156999… to be fair, Im not looking at the others… Out of all the top clubs, I think we are really in a need to sign a player or two to help translate Sarri’s ideas into the club.
Speaking with mates, they think that Sarri has no plan b, there is little passion, and he aint going to last. We really need to get players in to transform Sarri’s system from one where square pegs are playing in round hole positions. Willian, Morata, Giroud, Dave and Alonso for me look like they’re on borrowed time at the club.
Dave and Alonso because in their new roles they offer nothing going forward. Crosses from the flanks have been very poor this season.
Kante is adapting well to his new role and is offering more but nothing great going forward yet.
Sarri needs time and he needs players who know what is expected of his system, then we may see why Jorghino was bought in midfield because at the minute he is a passenger.
January 16, 2019 at 1:33 pm #1717194RDP – would not disagree with much of what you say and yet we still find ourselves 4th in the EPL and involved in every knockout completion available to us so not to shabby considering some of the issues we have been facing since Sarri arrived…?
Yes, sari needs time and a couple more of his players. We need to see if Luiz, whom he wants, will stay and obviously the same can be said for Hazard and even Hudson Odoi. Lots of ifs and buts out there at the moment but if I had to award Sarri a half term mark then personally I think it would be a B+ remembering he had virtually no time in the pre season either.
