“Jesse Lingard is going to be some player. He is 19, came through our youth system and is built like Jean Tigana was for France. But he never got into the limelight there until he was about 24, and I think that will be the same with Lingard.”

    – Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012

Lingard become something else. l’m surprised he doesnt get much attention. 10 Goals 5 Assists. Take a bow Lingard. You are shutting your haters up this season, including @blacky & @jm1502. Messi Lingard, rumour has it that Real Madrid have ceased their pursuit of Hazard to launch a full bid for their next Galactico. Mourinho is said to have told them he wants Ronaldo, Bale, Isco and Asensio for any potential deal #GOAT

He needs to show this form over the rest of the season, have a good WC and then do the same next season.

It’s the easier chances he seems to miss, once he gets those to go in he will have some scoring ability.

I never slated him, when our passing and movement was slow. He was the only one who use to actually move and roam around, he is one our only midfielder in our team who makes runs beyond our striker. Problem is he is one of those players who has to do more then others to get noticed.

He’s in great form but he needs to do it for a much longer period than a month in the premier league. As Blacky pointed out recently there are a lot of players in our squad who are capable of raising their game every now and again but it’s doing it consistently that we are really lacking at the moment. Lukaku, Miki, Rashford, Matic, Mata, Lingard and Martial have all looked absolutely brilliant at times this season but have then followed it up with periods of bad form. They need to be doing it every week, that’s what the team is missing at the moment – that consistency. I still don’t think we’ve properly clicked yet as a team and when that happens we’ll be a force.
So frustrating we dropped those 6 points in the three draws we should easily have one. We’d be 9 points behind City now and be right in the title race. Absolutely threw it away.

@happyhurling – glad you’ve finally grasped the difference between a (proven) star player and a player who has potential to become a star player – CONSISTENT good performances.

When I asked you are our proven star players are, you said … De Gea, Bailly, Pogba, Matic, Martial, Rashford, Lukaku. Here you concede Lukaku, Rashford, Matic, Martial are inconsistent, brilliant in some games, poor in others.

This is my point, if all the players you mention become proven stars then yes we will have a spine for a team of the future BUT if they don’t we’re in trouble. Basically you count chickens before they are hatched.

@happyhurling – Its more like the glass being half full of hops and saying this will be a great beer. Yep we hope so, but if it doesn’t ferment you’ll end up with piss and being sick. Anyhow, seems you now accept the point.

Come on lads let’s not turn this in to another tit for tat, point scoring thread that goes round and round in ever decreasing circles until it disappears up its own arse.

Let’s hope that this isn’t just a purple patch and that we’re genuinely seeing a youngish, reasonably local lad emerging in to a fine first team player. Christ enough of us had written him off and I very much hold my hands up to that…how smart would it be if the dabbing dick head proved us all wrong.

Like I’ve been saying – we may be witnessing the emergence of Jesse Lingard as a top player.

happyhurling – I agree when you say “Lukaku, Miki, Rashford, Matic, Mata, Lingard and Martial have all looked absolutely brilliant at times this season but have then followed it up with periods of bad form.”

My issue is and always has been that the ones with potential like Lingard, Martial and Rashford will easily get dropped if they hit a period of bad form yet players like Matic, Lukaku, Pogba, Zlatan never get dropped or subbed regardless of how shit they are playing.

Pogba has played every minute he can so far in the league as have Matic and Lukaku. Lingard has completed 90 mins twice, Martial once, Rashford 5 times, Mata 5 times.

Maybe if those players were given more of an opportunity and a run of games they’d develop some sort of consistency.

@manthistle – This – give him a run of games – issue crops up again and again regarding different players. That may be in a players best interest but is it in the teams best interest?

Imagine if a player is going through a bad spell, JM plays him and we lose as a result. What then? Ultimately we must trust the manager to field a team that he can be confident will win the game. If that means not playing an out-of-form player, so be it. Its the managers primary job to win matches not develop players.

Really pleased to see him in form, can he possibly get 15 premier league goals this season? Mourinho seems to have faith in him and that says A LOT..He could probably be England’s saviour this world cup. who knows 😂

I have no issue with Jose dropping a player because he is out of form or persist with a player in a hope that his form will return whatever he sees fit. My issue is that certain players are never dropped regardless of form (pogba, matic, lukaku, zlatan) and certain players are always dropped regardless of form (martial, rashford, lingard, mata). My issue is that the former list appears to be untouchable and I think it is detrimental to the team as a result.

Sometimes being taken out of the limelight can help a player. Look at de Gea. Sir Alex dropped him for Lindegaard when he first arrived because he was making errors but look at him now. Why can’t Jose do that with Lukaku?

Dropping Lukaku is about pride I reckon, if he did, they will start going on about the price tag and stuff.
