This is a difficult one Kante will be 32 at the start of next season and has been badly affected by injuries.

Kante has allegedly rejected the 2 plus one year offer and wants something longer as per the Athletic’s report below.

Kante is so good when fit that you wonder whether a 3 plus one year contract wouldn’t be a good compromise I don’t think we should go further than that as even that’s a risk.

    No easy answers though.

Chelsea made N’Golo Kante verbal offer last month of new 2+1y contract
🔵 31yo unwilling to accept, wants longer (old regime discussed 3+1)
    🔵 #CFC factoring injuries
🔵 If not sorted, free agent 2023
🔵 2 PL clubs & others in Europe keen

Bottom line with kante is his current contract puts him amongst very highest in squad and league and yet we haven’t had him fit and at his best for even half the games of his current contract.

We all know how amazing he is when fit but 3 seasons in a row now in to 4th and he can not stay fit.

We will lose him on a free or sell him in January. The only logical outcomes here. I can see why other teams might take gamble on his fitness but we need players on the pitch.

If I knew he would be fit then I would say give him what he wants

Not about length of contract nine but it needs to be based on appearances to make sense for us imo. I think we let him go.

I think it will depend on how Boehly & co’s plan. If they want instant success, especially in Cups (Carabao, FA, Champions League or Europa): we should extend Kanté. He was our main key during UCL winning last year. But if they don’t care about this season or the next and think more about the future: we should let him go. With his injury, it’s difficult to predict how many games he can play. And because the system is built around him, when he’s not there like this season after the match against Spurs: we are in total shamble. No other player can play his position better than him, not even close.

My opinion: offer him 2 year with 1 year of extension depending on number of games he will play. Same salary. So we know that he won’t be present that much but it could ease up the transition and it could allow us to get some results when he’s not injured. And if PSG or other teams are interested in him: we can get some transfer fee. But if he refuses the term, we should just move on, let him go for free 2023.

Kante is undoubtedly one of the finest signings in the last few years at Chelsea, but his injury record is a major concern. Not just the regulatory, but the nature of the injuries. Mainly all muscle strains of one type or another, rarely if ever a contact injury and with seemingly longer recovery periods each time. If he does not accept the latest offer I would agree we have to let him go.

I would not however let him go on a free. I think the club have to take a stance here. We have had Christensen and Rudiger last season, and both Jorghino and Kante in a position to do the same this season. There needs to be a clear message that we are not to have the proverbial taken and their agents should be told now to start looking for a club in January.
