Ah well, another foreign manager trying to get us to play in a different style goes west, and it’s back to British. Not enough time given to Zenga, I don’t think, but what’s done is done. I always thought Lambert was pretty brave and clever as a player and has shown that – given the backing – he can get a team who play good football promoted and so am relatively happy with the appointment. What I am bothered about is the fact that we have bought/loaned players who have never played, or who look like duds. That being the case, Mendes needs to be kept at a distance and the manager allowed to choose his players; maybe Fosun have learned that lesson now.

Lambert looks a reasonable bet but he needs to organise them defensively and get the balance right between attack and defence. Of the new players I think most are pretty good either as first 11 or decent squad players. The only one who does seem a definite dud is Gladon. I am sure that some of the loanees will drift back to their clubs

I’ve got to agree with the comments from the two stalwarts above regarding the appointment of Paul Lambert. I saw a lot of him when he was at Norwich, just up the road from Suffolk’s Debenham and was very impressed. As with players the idea of best fit will always mean that some managers, like players, need to be with a club and environment which works for them and the club; so let’s hope that Lambert has found his home. There are never guarantees, but I hope my good feeling about this appointment is correct. We do need 2 or three good players to plug the gaps and fire the shots in the January transfer market, but it is not always a good time to buy. More interesting times ahead…
