The last time we visited here in the league was 17 years ago in an entertaining 2-2 draw with all the goals in the first half. Leeds old boy Harry Kewell had put us one up before Eirik Bakke equalised, then Viduka struck before Baros making it 2-2 and that’s the way it stayed. Leeds had three (1 former and 2 future) LFC players in the starting XI that day; Dominic Matteo, Jermaine Pennant and current stalwart, a certain Mr James Milner.
Starting XI that day for us: Kirkland, Finnan, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher, Gerrard, Murphy, Hamann, Kewell, Owen and Baros.
Don’t think we’ll see much rotation now going forward with us out of everything bar the top four. Expecting to see this potential starting XI: Alisson, Trent, Phillips, Kabak, Robbo, Fabinho, Gini, Thiago, Jota, Firmino and Mo. Wouldn’t be surprised if Mane or Ox started this though.
Three points an absolute must and think we’ll get them. We simply have too. Everton will be a draw today I think at home to Spurs, Leicester will beat Soton at home and hopefully West Ham slip up at Newcastle. Chelsea don’t play in the league of course with their FA Cup semi match.
Why do I think we’ll win it, well, like I said, we have too, Leeds are a win 1, draw 1, lose 1 kinda team at home, they are buoyed by that win at City (over confident now) and Klopp will have his charges fired up for three points and think we’ll win well and professionally. 3 or 4-1 to us and continue our good form at Elland Road (1 loss in all comps in 25 years – 4-3 back in 2000 – the Viduka match!).
Got to keep close tabs on Bamford, Dallas and Raphina tho!
April 16, 2021 at 10:16 pm #1943884I cant see us keeping a clean sheet with the amount of energy Leeds have about them. So let’s hope our forwards remember where the goal is
April 17, 2021 at 4:50 am #1943895Leeds are kinda like how we’re a few years back so which way this game goes is anyones guess. But I think it’s been a long season for them which will now take its toll so hopefully we can get 3 vital points.
April 17, 2021 at 2:31 pm #1944007Good result for us last night means we don’t have to look over our shoulder quite as much.
Hammers losing is fantastic too.As I pointed out weeks ago West Ham and Chelsea fixture run is not easy. Ours is the easiest on paper but we still need to pick up the 3 points against teams like tricky Leeds.
April 17, 2021 at 2:56 pm #1944014….and West Ham do indeed slip up at Newcastle. I was spitting feathers when they equalised until that United-esque Ruddock style Willock header did the biz! Get in!
April 17, 2021 at 3:12 pm #1944031That’s why I was thinking it was better West Ham beat Leicester as it’s pulls Leicester back into it
So two places up for grabs instead of one
Two perfect results for us today and last nightApril 17, 2021 at 4:03 pm #1944044We need to take care of business on Monday night now. After Leeds we play Newc who are fighting to beat the drop. 5/6 more points probably saves them let’s make sure they don’t pick them up against us. That same day West Ham play Chelsea.
April 17, 2021 at 4:42 pm #1944050Ye Leeds are a good side but they leave gaps and can be certainly got at.
April 17, 2021 at 5:29 pm #1944058Another game, another gift, we just have to keep winning, and taking advantage of these results
April 17, 2021 at 5:32 pm #1944059Yes but if we show up feeling sorry for ourselves and not up for it again, they’re going to run us ragged. Top 4 is there for the taking and I think 6 wins out of our last 7 games will be enough to clinch it. I would rather we show up at Old Toilet having taken another 6 points.
April 17, 2021 at 5:46 pm #1944067we’ve got some momentum in the PL and if we want a top 4 finish we’ve got to win most of these matches. Getting knocked out of the CL will have focused the lads, in knowing that this is the only route, with no distractions.
April 19, 2021 at 4:57 am #1944519All this talk of the super league will have our boys distracted & the Leeds boys can be extra motivated to beat a super league team. Fearing a bad result tonight
April 19, 2021 at 6:37 am #1944523I would start Jota and Thiago tonight, while Shaqiri, Ox and Keita could also play a part in this game, hopefully just to kill it off.
This is a tricky opponent who we must be very wary of, but tonight we have to show that we really want this Top 4 spot
April 19, 2021 at 11:27 am #1944641Who cares? We’ve already qualified for the ESL right?
April 19, 2021 at 12:37 pm #1944671Yeah that’s it Threeps! If the premier league backs down on the expulsion threats….and they probably will considering it would be signing their own death warrant, without promotion and relegation to whatever European competition there is, then as soon as you’re out of the title race the season ends….play the under 18s, who cares. What a mess!
April 19, 2021 at 6:03 pm #1944776It just had to be us, all the eyes of the world will now be on this game, as it is the first since the shit storm broke out last night.
Our owners sure know how to drop Klopp in it, his interview may now be even more anticipated than the match itself 🤔
We still have to win it though
April 19, 2021 at 6:37 pm #1944789I really don’t think we win this way too much attention on anything but the game players heads must be all over the place. Klopp 1st of the 12 managers to go in front of a camera it’s going to be fireworks. Monday night football is all about the super league it’s all gone mad today.
April 19, 2021 at 6:38 pm #1944790Do we have to win it though?
What for?!
Top 4 is meaningless now.
We could finish 20th in the league and still be in the ESL.
April 19, 2021 at 7:00 pm #1944803This is highly unlikely but lads, imagine. This could be our last ever PL match.
April 19, 2021 at 7:06 pm #1944808Salah on bench
