Mac – When did I say he was a premier league star?September 10, 2019 at 12:15 pm #1781669

We tried 2 “accomplished managers” without success so who’s to say a third would be any different.
As for the Glazers getting a kick in teeth, I’d be surprised if they have any teeth left after failing to qualify for the CL 4 out of 6 times since SAF retired.
Given the Glazers aren’t going to make the massive investment needed to get us back to the top quickly, the only option is to get quality young players so that by the time we are getting the final jig-saw pieces the first pieces are in their prime and senior players. Playing together for a long time gives the stability the team needs, produces leaders and better performances since the players can forge partnerships and understandings.
That means giving Ole more than a year or two, more like 3 or 4 years.September 10, 2019 at 12:27 pm #1781676
@happyhurling – well how do you define a gem? Is a mediocre player a gem? Is a player a gem after a few games or does it take several seasons. Remember Januzaj was the best thing since sliced bread in his breakthrough season but it fizzled.
And note, new young players find it easier in matches because the opposition don’t know about them and don’t mark as much. Often players have good first seasons followed up by mediocre (need a list).
Basically happy its far to early to call James a gem. He could be cubic zircon.September 10, 2019 at 12:30 pm #1781678
happy – and out of curiousity, how would you rate the scouts, Eds and the Glazers performance the past 6 years. 1=Excellent 2=Good 3=Satisfactory 4=Poor 5=Terrible
I’m not looking to start a debate, just want to know where you stand at this moment in time.September 10, 2019 at 1:03 pm #1781689
Sympathy for the DevilsParticipant
@macguffin – there’s absolutely no guarantee on a 3rd accomplished manager – hence why I made it a point not to say anything other than just trying out a new manager.
As for the Glazers, finishing 10th means less Premier League money and no Europa League qualification money either – which will definitely give them pause at least. It might be the key for them to say “do you know what, if we don’t fix this we’re going to keep losing money” rather than them saying (as they currently are): “Seems like this team, on a good year, will get CL and that’s us sorted”.
As for Ole, yes to fulfill the plan of his proportions will require more than 2 years but if the team is failing spectacularly and he doesn’t sort it come the end of the year, perhaps we would need to review whether the project is worth it in the long run or whether we’re better off just working for Top Four each year (though it’s not what we want in the long term, it’s what the owners want and they ultimately will decide how well this club succeeds.

Typical of Mac and Blacky to turn every thread into a debate 🙄🙄September 10, 2019 at 1:47 pm #1781699
Sympathy, finishiing 5th this season means no kit money from Adidas next year (think it’s £70m+ a sesaon) and I would guess lower sponsorship from Chevrolet too.September 10, 2019 at 1:54 pm #1781703

Leicester look a decent outfit and have spent wisely for a team challenging for top 6.
With us its frustrating and a hard one to call. Despite the defeat and draws I am confident we are moving in the right direction team wise. We look more energetic, more emphasis on youth, I’ve seen James and AWB go past full backs and put a ball in and realistically had those two pens have gone in there would be less gloom about us. For the first time in a while we look like we have a plan but we are definitely held back by the board if rumours are true.
I’m made up to see Darmian, Valencia, smalling Rom and Sanchez go and rumurs of Rojo going in January are great we just need some more quality in.
I’d stick with him and let him see this through because we are definitely healthier as a team for it. Miles off winning the prem but we always needed to sort ourselves out firstSeptember 10, 2019 at 2:25 pm #1781715
Agree Alfie – i think we’ll beat them 2-1!September 10, 2019 at 2:45 pm #1781719
Going for a another heartbreaking prediction…a big win is bound to come 😭 going for a 3-0 win

Going for a hard-fought 2-1 win,just.September 11, 2019 at 12:06 am #1781793
Mac, on the scale of 1-5, 1 being excellent and 5 terrible, I for one would give them a solid 42….and no, there’s not a comma missing.September 11, 2019 at 3:54 am #1781794
Haha a fortnight with no posts from libanski and his first post in a match topic is not about the match, it’s a snide remark directed at me. I’m not surprised, he sings from the same songsheet so of course he’d want to praise our scouts for their excellent work “unearthing yet another gem”. Perhaps he should consider the reason we’ve been up shit creek the past 6 years is because of all the “gems” the scouts have sold us.
@libanski – I didn’t debate, there’s nothing to debate, happyhurling was just bullshitting us into believing everything is rosy in the garden and the scouts are doing great work. Heaven forbid I should try to debate something on a discussion forum.September 11, 2019 at 3:54 am #1781795
@roybgiv – 42 is a head scratching enigma, this question should be a no brainer, no need to scratch heads, other than happy of course who has the conundrum of how to give a rating that doesn’t contradict his many praises and doesn’t make him look ridiculous.September 11, 2019 at 4:06 am #1781796
@Sympathy – I hear what you are trying to say but don’t think a 10th place finish is realistic. Worst case scenario would be just missing out on UEFA spot. But for the sake of argument, let’s stick with your 10th place. I don’t think it would bother the Glazers one iota just so long as the financial results are good and that leads us back to the old potatoe of how long would it take for poor performances on the pitch to translate into poor financial performances.
And I’m sure they’d come up with ways to offset the impact. One season (forget which) when we had failed to qualify for CL the idea was discussed of the club doing exhibition games and marketing appearances in lucrative locations such the Gulf.
As for plan, that’s part of our problem. The club doesn’t seem to have any plan. Every managerial change brings about a new plan, which is the managers plan not the clubs. This is one of the arguments for a DoF.September 11, 2019 at 10:33 am #1781847
Might be waiting for the team news before making a prediction for this one. AWB, Shaw, Pogba, Lingard and Martial are all struggling with injuries/illness. Whatever you think of these players, consider who’ll play if they don’t, proper squeaky bum timeSeptember 11, 2019 at 11:22 am #1781868
Mac – Again where have i said everything is rosy in the garden? All i said is that it looks like Dan James is a great prospect and we’ve uncovered another gem. Immediately you’ve jumped on it and accused me of a) saying Dan James is now a Premier League star and b) that everything is rosy in the garden.
How did you come to those conclusions?September 11, 2019 at 11:28 am #1781869
Happy mate, you dont help yourself sometimes! soon as i read that initial comment i knew what would happen!
i think the main issue is “our scouts have unearthed another gem”
no they didnt and havent for a very long time…(most scouts at most clubs seem to be as bad tho)
he has started very well for club and country and you should rightly be excited by this…but then not over egg the omolette with it being such early days….;)
