Paul Merson is fanning the embers of a rumour that Hazard will be rested on Sunday v Liverpool in favour of the Prague game.

I checked the date and Sunday is not April 1st.😊

Thank you 999. I think I am in my own backyard this time – oops – yup its got a London theme about it 🙂 . Any way I’m here and am worried about this game big time. Why in particular? Because those lads stayed in Prague overnight and flew back the next day followed by an afternoon training session all less than forty eight hours before kick off. You don’t want to be playing Huddersfield away under those circumstances let alone Liverpool. On top of that they still have to trek to Liverpool for the match. I am fearing a performance lacking energy and desire and if you play Liverpool on their own patch like that, well they come at you hard. Hope I am wrong, just have this horrible feeling. Last night they were pretty average. Pedro, in particular worries me with his form.

You have to assume that the Chelsea management would have taken everything into account in terms of travel fatigue and training requirements for the Liverpool game

We will make changes again and we will go with our strongest 11. Hazard will play and I hope/expect CHO to start as well, probably flanking Higuain. I really hope that RLC occupies the middle with Jorginho and Kante and Emerson to replace Alonso and I assume Luiz to replace Christensen. For me, the above looks our most balanced and threatening team currently

I am concerned that Liverpool will try to hustle us like Prague did and in many games this causes us issues so we have to play the ball quickly and accurately (unlike last night). I feel that they lack creativity in the middle of the park so hopefully Jorginho can establish himself with the help of Kante and I am looking for some powerful midfield runs from RLC

They are unbeaten at home and obviously need the result. Equally we seem to have a nack of upsetting the apple cart at Anfield and we also need the points. I would suggest that if we can come away with a point then that should be considered a good result. 3 points obviously over the moon and it is something we are capable of and yet we could be well beaten if we do not turn up

I think they will throw the kitchen sink at us for the first 20 minutes or so and we need to be strong and get through it. You will then see the frustration and anxiety creep in which we could use in our favour

Regardless, it is going to be an interesting game. KTBFFH

Jorginho played full time against Prague. I think Kovacic-Kanté should start against Liverpool. I am not optimist as we are tired and Liverpool have more rest plus play at home. But if we can win this match or even come out with a draw: it will help our chance to finish in the top 4. Liverpool keep winning even though they play bad recently. But so are we. We need to be really clinical, we cannot waste chance there. I think both teams will start the match very cautiously. The score would be 1-0 for them or 0-1 for us methink

Sarri needs to be pragmatic on Sunday go 4/5/1 play Hazard as the false 9 and Willian and Pedro wide left and right of a midfield 5 to counter Liverpool’s full backs with Jorginho, Kante and RLC in the centre that’s the way Southampton played against them and it nearly worked for them. Play the low black and look to hit Liverpool on the break.

Can he be pragmatic though? He showed that against City in the final but that’s it. After that we lost at Everton but recently we won 3-4 games in a row using Sarri’s way. Last time at the Bridge, we went toe to toe against Liverpool and we almost won. I think Sarri is rigid and will go that way again. If so, Liverpool will beat us easily. Klopp is an intelligent manager.

I agree that it’s better to be cautious. We need points but so do they. If we can keep the clean sheet, I believe we can steal one goal from counter-attack. Their wing-back are normally too advanced in position and CHO’s speed can be the difference. Matip is slow too. For me position per position we are not too far. Only on attack they have Salah, Mane and Firmino who can score freely.

Aindro, I take hearr from him being pragmatic in the City game.😊

I don’t think he will be silly enough to try and go head to head with Liverpool.

In truth can’t see us beating Liverpool on their home ground, we still lack in certain positions but you never know so hope for a positive result. Good luck Chelsea.

I think Sarri needs to go with the same team as the L.Cup Final v City apart from RLC for Barkley and tactically we need to play the same way. CHO can come off the bench if we are chasing the game.

    Take a draw right now.😊

Spurs won and at the moment Man Utd are 1-0 up against WHU. I expect them to beat WHU. No room for error for us.

CHO has to start…so will RLC. A draw wouldn’t be the worst result but Liverpool will be feeling the pressure. They slip up against us…excuse the pun….title is very much in Citys hands. I’d go with the following lineup
    Kepa
    Emerson
    Rudi
    Luiz
    Azi
    Kante
    Jorginho
    RLC
    Hazard
    Higuain
    CHO

I have feeling that this kind of game, Christensen would be better suited than Luiz. Luiz is mistake-prone; they have world class attackers in Salah, Mane and Firmino. We have to be careful of their wing-backs in Alexander-Arnold and Robertson but IMO is their weakness too that the wing-backs are often too advanced. Speedy players like CHO or Pedro (yes Pedro) and Hazard can take advantage of it. I would rather playing false 9 as Higuain I believe would be too isolated. My team: Kepa – Azpi, Christensen, Rudiger, Emerson – Kante, Kovacic, RLC – CHO, Hazard, Pedro

But I believe Sarri will start Luiz as he was rested midweek and Jorginho even though he played full midweek.

Looks like I predicted 10 of the starting 11
…not bad. Totally understand the false nine deployed by Sarri…its Liverpool away after all. First half hour gone…we doing a decent job of holding them. Good chance for Willian which he spurned. C’mon Chelsea…we need at least one point.

First half was decent. But early 2nd half was catastrophic. Liverpool total domination. It’s 2-0 now and I cannot see us coming back. Liverpool are just too strong for us. I switched off now. While CHO has played very well until now, and I am happy he started: I think Sarri should have taken him off. He is a liability defensively (look at how Azpi worked so hard) and in attack he cannot do anything as Liverpool are just too compact.

Anyway a good fight. Hope that Arsenal will drop points tomorrow against Watford. Now we are depending on other teams’s result for the top 4. Spurs won big yesterday but I think they will lose next week against City.

Well that was toothless tbh whoch is disappointing given the team selected.
Hazards misses show once again that if he doesnt do it we dont do it!
God knows what we do next season if he does go to Madrid!!

Must admit it’s hard to believe there’s such a big gap between the top 2 and the rest especially if you look at the individual players of each team. The difference isn’t that big but as a team we seriously lacking. I really expected much better performance though the score was not unexpected.

Unfortunately for u guys sarri played hazard in the wrong position. Our weakness is trent alexander in defence. Whereas our strength is in big virgil who was directly up against hazard. Hope chelsea and arsenal make the last two top4 spots

I was actually encouraged by that performance. Given the current league positions and that we were at Anfield I thought we matched them. Apart from the few minutes where they scored both their goals I don’t think they were really any better than us. If hazard had buried his chances I don’t think you’d hear too many scousers complaining about a draw.

I can see why Sarri went for the false 9, but seeing how much better Hazard became the second he reverted to his usual position, I can’t help but think he is wasted playing the false 9. Willian was a bit shit to be honest, he just doesn’t offer enough attacking for a player in a front three. The only difference between us and Liverpool today was they have players that shoot and we don’t.
