Where are those people who were slating me when i said we shouldn’t select Willian for this game? there you have, after playing a full 90 minutes, he has done nothing to inspire confidence. and i can see Lampard is falling to the trap that his predecessors has fallen. heartbreaking to see that we had been on top in the second half, and Pulisic was sitting on the bench.

Otherwise well done to the boys for their second half display. poor finishing have let us down. if we need to move from here. we need to cut the silly mistakes from our game. both fouls could have been avoided. and i hope Lampard has a word with the defence. drop Kovacic or Jorginho please and replace them with Barkley. injuries robbed us from making useful subs.

Anyway time to regroup for the Brighton match. even that i’m scared now. but the return of Kante has given me something to smile. and hopefully Rudiger makes in that game. although i would say, Zouma didn’t set a foot wrong today.

Blue owner – I don’t mind VAR but not decisions like the 3 I mentioned.

On reflection very good second half performance and deserved more from the game. I think Liverpool can count themself very lucky. Jorginho was brilliant in the second half, Kant was just superb, Zouma played well when he came on, Tomori is making a very good claim to play alongside Rudi when he’s fit, I would have liked to see Mount brought into the CAM and Kovocic off for Pulisic but other than that I thought we were brilliant. The future is exactly bright and in a couple of seasons, this team will be amazing. I still think we can certainly challenge for the top 4 and can win a trophy. It’s not all doom and gloom. Last season we would’ve been poor and still lost, so positives from a defeat.

Roll on Wednesday night, will be interesting to see who plays.

I think Tomori was excellent on the 2nd half. Mount too. For me we were really unlucky not to get a draw. Players have tried everything. Liverpool and Klopp are really champions of ….. wasting time. They were rubbish 2nd half, what they did was wasting time. I was really annoyed by that. I predicted Liverpool to win the Premiership and now I seriously wish City will win it again, rather than Liverpool. Cannot fault any of our players 2nd half. Zouma was excellent, Kepa too. Though I think Kepa should have been able to deal with our 1st goal, it’s his angle.

Spurs lost yesterday and so did Man Utd, our 2 competitors. So it’s not all gloomy. We have a better schedule from next weekend and hopefully we’ll win a lot of our next matches. With CHO and hopefully Rudiger coming back: they are not messiah but they will improve greatly our team. And we have Reece James too. So not all gloomy guys !! Let’s hope we’ll win the next match in the league and the match after that and the match after that. Kante, what a goal !!

Good effort by the lads today and given everything I think we deserved something from the game.

Sloppy defensively for the 2nd goal and Christansen impetuous in giving away the free kick for the first.

Although Mount was clearly originally offside it was a strange decision for VAR to disallow the first half goal as we were well into 2nd phase.

Get Rudiger alongside Tomori and a couple back and we’ll be fine.

Very very unlucky however I do think Lampard needs to make a couple of changes to his perceived best starting lineup. And we need to work on our set pieces, it’s been our weaknesses for more than 2 seasons now. Other issue more clinacality upfront.

Christensen gave away a foul in a dangerous area. This should have been avoided. Their 2 goals came from set-pieces. Really disappointing. For me this is the area we have to work as top priority. Our pre-season has already shown that and it hasn’t been addressed properly. I am less worried about our wastefulness in front of goal. I think Abraham and Mount have answered that and going forward with CHO available again soon (hopefully he won’t have any setback like Rudiger and Kante had): sunny days ahead. Today we still scored one goal too. Their defense IMO was really good and did not allow us to create clear chances. VVD and Matip were excellent plus Fabinho.

I think we should stick with 3 CB shielded by Kante and Kovacic. While Jorg wasn’t bad 2nd half, he was really slow 1st half and basically our weakest element. Tomori should cement his place, another solid performance. And I think we must give credit to Alonso too. He has always been a threat for the opposition’s defense. I would play 3 CB with Alonso on the left and either Azpi or Reece James on the right.

Frustrating game, I think we deserved a point and at the end of the day the goals pool scored were set plays, even with a back 4 we were not that shaky at the back. Sloppy marking for the second goal, but the response was good. The biggest shame was having to use 2 subs before half time to replace defenders like for like. This left us with only one offensive sub to make in the second half when ideally we would have been able to see pulisic come on as well as we pushed for equaliser.

Gutted not to get a point in the end, but the positive thing is despite feeling we are miles away from liverpool, in the two games we have played the aggregate is 3-4 to the champions of Europe, that aint too bad.

Aindro, I think Lamps was spot on changing to back 4 today. The goals we conceded were set pieces, 3 at the back wouldnt have changed much except to maybe invite them on to us a lot more and risk more fouls and set pieces around the box.

I really dont think it is about finding the right system and sticking with it, I think its about finding the right system for each game to maximise our chance of a return and I think Lamps played the percentages well today. The back 3 I think will be used against the teams that look to play only on the counter, hence the change against pool, and remember this is the system we deployed against them in super cup too.

Wise Fan, I would totally endorse what Lucky says above.

As I’ve said before it’s a shame that you post just to get reactions to what you post because some of what you say is worth reading and gets lost in it all.

I was hoping you would take note of what I said previously unfortunately not but be aware there will though come a point in time when I won’t keep saying it.

Willian did not give anything in the match, probably Pulisic would give more advantage than him, but I think it’s not him who was the weakest link. For me 1st half was Jorginho the weakest even though he was excellent on the 2nd half. Moreover it was our set-piece defending that let us down today and so many times already this season only. How come Firmino won the header against towering defenders like Alonso or Zouma or Abraham or even Tomori or Azpi?

I think Willian is our only old player (30+) plus Azpi who would feature regularly for us. Frank Lampard is starting to phase out our oldies. Pedro did not play that often, Giroud even less: which is good for us as the regeneration is starting at the club. And with Reece James starting to regain fitness from injury, I am not even sure that Azpi would feature regularly once James will be fit. And Willian neither with CHO getting more fitness.

Our starting eleven after October international break could very well be as young as following: Kepa(24 yrs) – Christensen(23), Tomori(21), Rudiger(26) – Reece James(19),Kante(28),Kovacic(25),Emerson(25) – Mount(20),CHO(18) – Abraham(22)

Average age: 22.81. And when RLC will be fit, say that we replace Kovacic with RLC, the average age will become: 22.63

Aindro, I’m not having a go or in any way blaming you but we need to move on from the demonization of Willian every week it’s been done to death now on here and we all know what each of us thinks re Willian.

Obviously not you but referring to current Chelsea players whether you rate them or not as “donkeys” on here is a bridge too far imo.

999 I did not mean to do that as I was just saying that Willian was not our worst performer today. And look at our possible team after the intl break, it would be awesome. Cheers mate!

In my opinion a player should not be deemed offside unless there is clear daylight between the two and it should be the torsos lined up not arms or legs.

Turned off at half time as it was 2.15am and I could see no way back. Watched a replay of the second half and they were inspiring after Liverpool came hard at us early on. Alonso and Dave have been written off by many as washed up however I reckon both played well as did Kovacic. Kante was very good and what a great goal.

Gets a little easier next week with Brighton and Hove Albion and hopefully another win.

Good 2nd half pity TA missed that chance in the 1st half and also the offside which as many have stated came in a different phase of the game, I support Var but that decision was ridiculous, it means you can now go far back into the game looking for something to blow up for. Totally dislike that ref as well, has an unwarranted cockiness about him, a ref that’s so bad that he has even had death threats in the past on more than on one occasion, anyway Lampard just needs to improve on his selections and subs and we can go forward with hope, generally unlucky yesterday and deserved a draw.
