Big game this weekend boys! Can we play smart for once? (probably not)
Games against Liverpool and Leicester so far under Pep have shown us exposed in the most obvious ways as we play into the opposition hands!
Liverpool’s strength is high pressure and pace in LF and RF, so we can’t let Otamendi sit on the ball and we can’t have our fullbacks bombing forward.
We need KDB deep and Ederson to play direct to Aguero more oftenSeptember 8, 2017 at 1:59 pm #1529404
We have a poor record against both Merseyside clubs. This includes something like a 20% win record against Liverpool during the ADUG era at City (and it wasn’t that good before then!). Compare that with about 50% wins for United over the same period and so it’s a good time to start turning it around. However, not sure that City is quite at it enough yet so, as was the case against Everton, a draw wouldn’t be that disastrous.September 8, 2017 at 2:50 pm #1529448
Kompany out with calf injury..hope this is a one offSeptember 8, 2017 at 3:40 pm #1529504
A game of tactical nous to morrow. Klopp knows how to stop us but may have to sacrifice some attacking prowess they have because we are no slouches and he knows that as well. We need Jesus and Aurgerro to start banging them in early to morrow, that will settle team. Looking forward to our new full backs performing. Always a good game against Liverpool to watch, we need to win games like this if we want that titlesSeptember 8, 2017 at 4:57 pm #1529551
Don’t think Koop will sit backSeptember 8, 2017 at 11:56 pm #1529594
Tough one to call, but Liverpool’s excellent record against top 6 clubs is based on counterattack, when they have to make the running they don’t do so well. So, will Guardiola change his style, some hope I’m afraid. Hopefully we can score first and get a second before they score. It really is about time we beat this team. I think we should play with a back 4 with Danilo at right back and Mendy at left back. Otamendi and perhaps Tosin (I wouldn’t play Stones) at centre back. I remember when they cleaned us out when Mangala and Otamendi played as centre backs during Pellegrini’s time, so perhaps time for Tosin.September 9, 2017 at 4:21 pm #1529876
Goes without saying – great result and performance.
Even with 10 men you would expect more fight from a Liverpool team – very average without Mané and Salah (or Coutinho) – Klopp thought game was gone at half time bringing Salah off.
Pep been getting stick but tactics spot on today and stopped Liverpool’s only strengths – our wing backs were told to press ahead and not worry about the opposition RF and LF – outside CB came across to cover, so; less time on the ball to pick the through pass to their danger men and only time Liverpool got in was due to individual errors by Otamendi or stonesSeptember 9, 2017 at 4:41 pm #1529890
Dont forget we have had to play with 10 men this season as well but we gave a good team performance…that is the difference now. We still need a CB in January but I would give Mangala a chance, I would rather have him than Otomendi. Hope Ederson recovers quickly. KDB….what a player…he is all over the place, tackles, passing dribbles, shots he has to score soonSeptember 9, 2017 at 5:43 pm #1529931
Agree Brian .i not a fan of man gala but otemendi looked very vulnerable,
Great resultSeptember 10, 2017 at 12:09 am #1530114
I thought Otamendi and Fernandinho had a very shakey start until Liverpool went a man down.
Mendy, Walker and Danilo were superb but what a performance from KdB outstandingSeptember 10, 2017 at 12:10 am #1530115
Well done City. Amazing how Liverpool fell apart after the sending off. There were some real stars out there today KDB and Danilo were outstanding and Edersen looks the real deal. The decision to send off Mane was the correct one in my opinion – dangerous play. I was impressed with City getting back to defend when Liverpool got the ball before the sending off. Let’s hope this continues.September 10, 2017 at 9:51 am #1530153
I have a question for all these people who don’t think that was a red yesterday!!
If a studs up challenge 6 inches above the ground is a straight red Card please tell me how the hell a studs up challenge 5ft above the ground isn’t?
I’m hearing people say, he was committed and didn’t see the keeper. Pleaseeeee, a 6.5 keeper running at the ball that Manes absolutely knows is heading for the ball because he saw him coming out. Look at the footage again he can see the keeper running straight towards him so this nonesense that he didn’t see him needs to stop.
It was shocking, committed but shocking and put a player in danger IN TODAYS RULES THATS A STRAIGHT RED CARD FFSSeptember 10, 2017 at 10:05 am #1530158
Goat, you are absolutely right and I thought exactly the same when I watched the game again on MotD last night. Studs up, late, high tackle – it doesn’t matter how high the ball is off the ground, it’s a straight red in today’s game.September 10, 2017 at 12:42 pm #1530229
Totally agree straight red no hesitation can´t Believe people questining that!!
But Otamenid is very shaky and he do not spread calm and stability in the defence.
but it´s nice to se we have a worldclass fullback in Mendy fantastic crosses Walker needs to learn but he got the pace instead.
And we got ourself´s a very good keeper aswell hope he recovers quickly but overall a very good game and against a topp team very good weekend. good to se Sane playing in his ordinary role we do have some luxury problems in the offencive part.September 10, 2017 at 12:54 pm #1530237
Lets all remember Gary Cahill first game of the season. Studs up challenge 6 inches above the floor, STRAIGHT RED, quite how some people don’t see a studs up challenge 5ft high as a red is, well kinda ridiculous. Orrrrrrrrr they are anti City full stop.
Mane is studs up, two footed, lunging, off the floor, out of control and endangering his opponent. He hits every single black mark in the book for Christ sake. But hey, lets not let the rules and the truth get in the way of a good dig at City eh.
Just imagine if that was Aguero on say, De Gaey??? Just stop for 1 minute and imagine the outcry for a longer ban. Imagine Maureen, he wouldn’t stop crying and the media would have gone into overdrive. Just like they did last season when Aguero tackled side show bob.
Last time I’ll say this.
Mane is studs up, two footed, lunging, off the floor, out of control and endangering his opponent. He hits every single black mark in the book for Christ sakeSeptember 10, 2017 at 9:53 pm #1530388
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t two footed, Goat, unless he had a third invisible one. 🙂September 11, 2017 at 7:56 am #1530416
By two footed I mean both feet in the air flying at the opponent. Not one planted and one in the air. Mane travels around 4 feet forward after he leaves the pith Ruth his lunge, it’s just ridiculous that anyone would even attempt to say it wasn’t a red cardSeptember 11, 2017 at 9:58 pm #1530765
What Ive noticed with this red is if youre a striker, current or old, they are saying no red
If you’re a keeper, currrnt or old, they say red card.
Defenders are saying red card also.
Ex Utd players are saying no red as well
Strange that eh?September 13, 2017 at 3:36 pm #1531393
The papers have had there headlines now, the pundits will go on forever because they have nothing else to contribute. The thing that really annoys me is, none of them were anywhere near perfect themselves and as for tactical nous ANY fan could draw lines on a board AFTER the event
