That’ll have to be next summer I’d say, for the ‘keeper that is, no club is going to sell a world class goalie with so little time left in the window, and we don’t buy in January as there’s no value in the market

moral – totally agree that bruno should be playing as part of a front three in this new set up and leave Eriksen to control the game. we definitely need another midfielder though as CANNOT have McTominay or Fred anywhere near this team, no matter their work rates.

Well, had a feeling we could win this before the game with pace up front and beat them on the counter. But to do that you have to have attitude. Havent seen the stats but i am sure they were running way more in previous games.

I know the team would be a lot better without the oafs Maguire and Shaw.
Malacia and Martinez takes no surrenders a stark contrast to Maguire and Shaw. Yes Liverpool were in for the taking.I dont think Liverpool will be a top 2 team this year,Arsenal or Spurs will.

So,over to to the next game.Southampton. Without the right attitude we will lose this game. They have som impressive high pressing game, they were unfortunate against Spurs. Same starting eleven, you dont change this.

Excellent attitude from the players tonight and a great win. Even Martial was running!

We still need at least another 2/3 players this window.

Maguire and Shaw have had enough chances and must now stay on the bench.

Gonna give a shout out to Dalot too – handled Liverpools attacking line well, got proper stuck in and I felt he was unlucky to get his yellow card too. He may not be the most talented RB in the world but he played very well yesterday I thought.

And yes, agree with the rest re. Martinez and Malacia… If they can come even slightly close to having the same sort of impact as Vidic and Evra did then they’ll be alright.

De Jong, Antony and, possibly, another RB to challenge/improve on Dalot and we can now push on and challenge for Top Four.

Back four all played well, even Dalot. The thought of a midfield three of any of McFred, Bruno and Eriksen still scares the life out of me so Casemiro, expensive or not, will be a desperately needed addition. Martial played well when he came on, Elanga simply isn’t good enough and, well, you know what I think about Rashford. Great goal by Sancho but I can’t remember much else that he did.

That’s the pluses. The minuses are a paultry 40% possession against a very very poor Liverpool who still managed to dominate and, on another day, would probably have won. In fact, I agree with Klopp’s post match assessment. Im afraid you can’t win games by battling alone, we’re still massively short on quality. If we could get De Jong, Antony AND Gakpo, well then we’d be talking.

Next up Southampton and don’t be surprised if they out battle us.

Yeah good shout re: Dalot, he was excellent last night. I’ve been critical of him recently but that might have been his best performance for us. Martinez and Malacia were both fantastic so maybe we do need to trust ETH’s player choices in the market?
Thought Rashford looked very sharp, could have had another nice goal if Allison didn’t make a good save. Hopefully he goes on a run now and that should be huge for his confidence. But agree the performance was made from grit and determination – we actually out ran and out sprinted Liverpool. That’s amazing really.

No one is getting carried away but i’m not sure why that result needs to be played down? Isn’t this the 2nd best team in football history? Don’t they have the best Keeper, best centre back and best forward in the world? Isn’t Trent the most talented player to ever come out of England? This is a team we’ve not come close to competing against the last few years, so i think it’s ok to celebrate the win. Hell, even go a bit overboard if yiz want to!!! 😉

When Carragher was talking this week about how precise Liverpool are in the transfer market and how shit we are i really hoped it would come back to haunt him – and it really did. Anyway, dropping points against Southampton on Saturday makes this win completely irrelevant so let’s hope ETH can motivate another top performance from this team because if he can “the play fucking good football”!
    😉

Funny how we all see games differently. I thought Rashy and McT played well. Sancho despite his goal did fuck all yet again and needs to be dropped along with Bruno. I love the tenacity of the new lads but the size of Martinez will always be a problem, he’s got the physique of a young teenager ffs! The LB is erratic but he’s young and will learn and hopefully become a very good player. You can’t win games on tenacity alone and I thought we looked knackered after 30 mins. Massive improvement but we need to put a run together now and develop some style along the way.

@Yorkshire – Gashy had his first game in many months that wasn’t 3/10 or less, that was his first PL in over 8 months! Let’s see long it lasts.
As for McT fuck me he was atrocious, continually misplacing passes and getting caught dawdling on the ball in midfield when a simple pass to an open team mate was the easy option. He’s not even Championship standard for me and needs to be fucked off as quickly as possible.

That should’ve read 30% possession by the way. Not good enough irrespective of the opposition.

Here is a point I’d like see how you guys answer.
Last night the real United stood up, determination and passion and pretty well looked a good team. So how many points do you think you’ll pick up playing like that with the same players? Also, if they can play like that and pick up a good points score, how can the Glazers be at fault, or are they at fault and not the players?

Last night was more like a 3rd round FA Cup tie when a lower league team beats one from the top league because they outfought and out battled them with a raucous crowd behind them. I doubt there is one right minded United fan who would be one bit surprised if they reverted to type come the next game and end up stinking the place out again, it’s what this group of players have always done.

    #2126011

@Moonster – I think we can do well, even very well, with the squad we have… BUT (and it is a massive but) only if the players play at their best which is very very rare… so the truth is that our players are like mid table players: can play excellently on one-off days but not good enough to do it week in week out… and that’s why we need better players about who are more consistent.

As to the Glazers, there are a number of issues that go beyond the squad: they’ve chosen bad people to run the football side of the club, they have not invested in Old Trafford and the training facilities and are actually more leeches than beneficial to the club as they take money out of the club instead of investing in it.

I think today is a day to simply enjoy the moment as nothing beats getting one over the scum. A long overdue performance and only expected because we were quite simply playing to get out of the relegation zone and to show some semblance of pride in the shirt – the determination was there and that’s all that we were asking for.

Moving forward, I hope Ten Hag took notes regarding the back 4. Our best pairing has to be Martinez and Varane going forward because they complement each other so well with Varane taking aerial responsibility and Martinez getting stuck in with tough challenges ala Gabriel Heinze. We’ve finally found Maguire and Shaw’s best positions and if we can do some business at RB we should be able to get through the season with a decent, functioning back 4.

As for the rest of the pitch, much left to be desired as we are sorely lacking any composure or ability to hold onto the ball except for Eriksen. Thank fuck we are almost guaranteed to never see McTominay starting again unless Casemiro is injured or rested because that was yet another exhibition of some seriously agricultural football from him.

I understand the behind the scenes issues with the Glazer, but I think last night proved more that its the team mentality that’s the issue rather than the lack of investment.

As I said Blacky, we all see things differently. I don’t think Rashy and McT are as bad as some think especially Rashy. If we play him to his strengths he can come again. McT is very average but a decent squad player imo. I think Lindeoaf is the worst CB in the PL but he’s still here after 5 yrs and getting games which does my fucking head in!! There you go.

@yorkshireman. The issue with playing to Rashford’s “strengths” is that his only “strength” is running onto a ball with 40 yards between him and the goalkeeper plus he has to work with a one or two touch finish because if he has any time to think about it he fluffs it. Liverpool and Manchester City are the only two games on the calendar where this is feasible because they will dominate possession and we can counter.

In the game on Saturday against Southampton he will be completely ineffective again playing against a hardworking low block – that’s where we need the actual football intelligence and ability of Ronaldo and/or Martial.

The issue with the Glazers and the issue with the squad are two separate issues. Money has been spent, club money not owner money, to improve the squad but due to the mismanagemrnt from the owners that money has been spent terribly badly which they have to take responsibility for. The amount spent on Maguire is criminal when you look at him now, Shaw too. So, the owners are partly to blane for the tragic state of the squad.
On the other side, the stadium and the training ground are in dire need of an upgrade. Old Trafford which was once the envy of the PL is comfortably in the lower half of stadiums in the league with leaky stands and just looking aged. The owners continue to take their dividends and leave the club to slowly crumble. Even if someone pays £6bn or so for the club, they’ll have to spend another few hundred million or a billion getting the physical structures and the footballing structures up to the elite level. The Glazers are vultures feeding off the flesh of our fair club.

Hatters – Absolutely spot on, enjoy the fucking moment! We’ve been shit for so long, we’ve been nowhere near this Liverpool side for what feels like a decade! Yet after beating them the way we did we have people on here moaning about possession stats! Ha ha couldn’t make it up!

@Yorkshire – Yep, you are more than entitled to that view mate, even if I can’t see anything in either player, even with my strongest beer goggles on. As for Lindeloaf, I said he was utter shite after watching him cost us a game at Huddersfield in his first few months at the club, and he certainly ain’t come close to proving us wrong.
We have to start being far more ruthless in shifting players out before contracts run down and after they have had sustained periods of shiteness for 2 years or more, that’s why Gashy and McT have to be moved on next summer in my view.
