I think Salah is overthinking it at the min instead of letting it come naturally to him.
Coupla times he went for goal instead of passing.
I think he’s feeling the pressure of having not scored in a while and it’s in his head.

Fabhino was better 2nd half. One bad stray ball out of play but improved from the 2st half.

    1. Manes goal was pure PlayStation.
    2. VVD must stop time and use stepladders to get so much air. How the hell?
    3. Salahs outside of the left boot long pass to Mane was filthy.

I copied this from guardian comments

As VVD flew above Hummels he wondered if perhaps he had died and was passing into heaven. A strong fragrance of wood and flowers wafted around him. It was a heavenly smell which reminded him of misspent summers spent among the wild flowers that grow in the meadows around Bavaria. But cruel reality was not far away. As he crashed to the ground the smell left him and he grew conscious of everything around him. The angel tore away spreading its beautiful wings and Hummels who had given his all grimaced. It is no shame to lose to such a heavenly being.

    Also about Mane…

As the lads hairline recedes, he plays better. God knows how good he’ll be when he goes full baldy.

Did we all watch the same game?

How many saves did ALison have to make?

AWAY 3-1 win in Munich & some suggestion we didn’t play that well!

Does the channel/commentators have an influence on how you perceive the game went?

Ak, I understand some comments like bofas.

We were sloppy in the 1st half. Again to many long balls and fabhino was having a nightmare. Milner abd winji aswell. To many misplaced passes

2nd half we were a lot better. We went to the Allianz stadium and ran the 2nd half. Fabhino was much better. We broke quickly and some good link up play. It was a very good European performance and I really enjoyed it

They didn’t get near Alison’s goal

Yesterday showed how our lack of creativity or that we are missing X or Y player are just urban legends that crop out once in a while. Let’s face it we will draw a few matches here and there and unfortunately those cards will be drawn from the sleeves and held as jokers.

We had one bad game the whole season and that was against Leicester and the frozen pitch and warm weather break was more to be blamed than anything else. We also don’t need to string 30 passes and walk the goal into the net to win games, as the scoreboard does not show if each team is playing pretty football or not.

I thought, overall, we played really well. First half we were quite conservative by our standards, but that was all to do with the classic approach away in Europe of quietening the crowd and it worked perfectly as the home fervour declined after 20 minutes. In the second half, we started well but then had a poor – and particularly sloppy – spell around the 55-65 minute mark but got through that well and were then superb. They were finished as a competitive force well before Mane’s header absolutely sealed it.

I thought we were excellent in the second half, best performance of the season. 3-1 at the Allianz Area and with our safe, zero creativity midfield! You’re right Captkirk, we’ll have a 0-0 at one point and the “we miss a coutinho type” brigade will be back out in force!

I wouldn’t get too carried away lads.
We won last night partly because Bayern was at home and they a) were expected by their fans to attack and b) had to attack especially after going a goal down.

It wasn’t our midfield that carved them open. It was a nice ball from VVD and spectacular skill and awareness from Mané. VVDs goal came from a corner and Manes last from a nice ball from Salah.

Bayern arnt a team that is happy to sit back in numbers at home against us (they did away tho). Their fans wouldn’t allow it and there are complaints today from their fans and players that they were too conservative. It’s not like we were playing a mid/lower level team happy to sit back and play for the draw.
We’ve drawn 7 times this season in the league. Its the major reason why we sit 2nd and not clear top.

We very much still need more creativity and goals from our midfield. This one game changes nothing in that regard.

“We very much still need more creativity and goals from our midfield. This one game changes nothing in that regard.”

Surely the very occasional flat performance from us is the one off, not last nights 3-1 win? We are having a great season after all, hence why I question all these shouts for more creativity from midfield.

Ginger, this win adds to the fear factor… In the league we are almost unbeatable, over two legs we are excellent, I hope we can see what the lads will do in a final again. Cause overall we have improved dramatically.

The balance of the team when everyone is fit is like nothing we have seen in decades. Its vastly superior to the Benitez side, same goes for the Rodgers challenge and its not going to break apart anytime soon.

Real or Barca can come knocking for our players but there is no incentive to sell. We dont need to sell to buy, we are offloading our fringe players and improving the first team.

Mane for player of the season, he is leading the frontline right now…

Not trying to take any gloss off our achievement last night, but I got the impression from the body language of the Bayern players, staff and their ultras at the end of the game that they were not totally gutted about losing. Almost as if they knew they weren’t good enough to get anywhere winning it so were quite happy to focus on the Bundesliga which, after a very dodgy start, they have now forced their way into a leading position. I’d be happy though to learn that I’d totally misinterpreted things.

There’s shouts for more creativity from midfield because there’s a lack of creativity from midfield. That’s quite obvious.
Our midfield didn’t carve thru Bayern last night. It wasn’t them that opened them up with their creativity so this result does not absolve them from the lack of creativity criticism.

This 3-1 away win in the CL IS a one off this season. It’s the only away win in Europe since around this time last year.
However we’ve had 7 draws which has cost us top spot in the league. Our struggles to break down teams that sit deep and defend has been an Achilles heel for us and the midfield needs to share their responsibility for this.
Have a look at how many goals/assists have come from midfield. It’s not great reading. Last nights result changed nothing in that regard.

Great result, professional performance with some great individual moments of skill but we still need more creativity and goals from midfield.

Pretty sure they were gutted Red Herring. Not spoken to any Bayern fans today, but a year or two ago a fan told me that the Champions League is all they care about, such is their dominance of the league. Granted this year the league hasn’t been the stroll it usually is!

Lewandowski seemed pretty angry about going out, especially regarding the tactics Kovac used.

But Ginger we are scoring goals, we are opening up teams that sit deep (apart from what, one or two occasions this season?). Does it matter if our midfield don’t get the assists or goals when clearly someone elsewhere does? Maybe if we stuck a creative player in the middle it would compromise the style we play and our front 3 wouldn’t score as much? Maybe it would slow our play down? Maybe we would be need to keep the full backs back a bit as we are softer in the middle, thus reducing our options for width? Who’s to say? But I don’t think there’s really much to fix regarding the first team.

And 7 draws (with 1 defeat) is nothing to really complain about, no one wins every game. Maybe at the end of season we will celebrate one of those draws if we win by 1 point.

Ginger: “We won last night partly because Bayern was at home and they a) were expected by their fans to attack and b) had to attack especially after going a goal down.” And this is exactly why some fans were reasonably confident despite drawing the 1st leg. What sort of ‘negativity’ meds have you been taking? 🙂

Threeps but we do struggle to open up teams away from home. Particularly in Europe
We don’t score loads of goals away from home.
We struggle to break down teams who sit deep.
In our last 6 aways we’ve scored 3 besides last night.

So I retain my suggestion that last nights performance although very good is not any vindication of our lack of creativity in midfield.

Kopite I suggest you read the rest of that post to get the context.
