We need to put perspective on this we have been very lucky in the last two games against them and they don’t lose at home to anyone. They have a better team and are probably the best or second best team in Europe if not the world only behind Bayern. Had laca scored we could have stolen a draw what exactly are people expecting ? This game is exactly how it was always going to go, we give up possession and try and nick a goal on the break which is what happened. Some people I think are deluded and sound like they think we should not be outplayed by Liverpool away ? and then start talking about if we had that player and this like it would have changed the result! We don’t have those players and we played the best 11 we have. Let’s get real lads! I am gutted but if they play well we will lose 9 times out of ten they are far away from Us and every one else at the moment!
September 28, 2020 at 11:27 pm #1878842How did we play the best 11 we had? Gabriel should have started instead of Holding. Saliba won’t even make the bench. The only reason I see that they haven’t played is that Arteta is worried about damaging their confidence.
We shouldn’t keep trying to play out from the back. The number of times we gave it away in dangerous areas was ridiculous. We still would have lost but why make it easier for them?
Can’t believe we sold Martinez.
September 28, 2020 at 11:32 pm #1878843Steve you are ridiculous. You think I’m suggesting we go toe to toe with Liverpool? It finishes there for me with arguing with you because you’re being totally insincere and deflecting and diverting attention away from the point in hand.
September 28, 2020 at 11:50 pm #1878847Stev – On the contrary,I think us as fans need to change our perspective and mentality of coming into these big games already accepting defeat.Every single time we play a big club it’s “Oh we will lose”.When is this going to stop. This club is bigger than that.We came to a stadium with no fans, this is actually the best time to play them.Getting a result didn’t seem impossible but the gulf in quality of just too much.Just too too much.Espescially their system. We need to change our system going forward.
I read somewhere today that Arsenal have produced the least shots at goal in the PL after Westbrom.Yes,it’s only three games but this is just ridiculous. This is the same very thing that we lambasted emery for.Even Arteta cannot get this team really “dominating” teams.I don’t blame him, just like I didn’t completely blame emery.
There are some elements in this club that are just unacceptable and decisions that require consequences. For example, who authorised a 350k a week for someone who the succeeding two managers don’t even thing is good enough (talent wise) to make the squad. How can you explain that otherwise?
I’ve kept on saying all summer that we need aouar or Partey or any other midfielders of similar quality only to challenge for top four. And fans with this stupid mentality call it unreasonable or weak.I mean to think that we just need them to challenge for top 4 and not even the title and fans say don’t expect too much…This club’s and fans mentality has been completely gone over the years.Arteta is the one who’s kept us at bay by winning the FA cup.But I don’t see him staying for long considering he gets no backing whatsoever.
September 29, 2020 at 7:38 am #1878871We were awful
It was like Newcastle against spuds
No desire to win just not to lose but inviting so much pressure. Playing out from the box with the whole pool team pressing in the box!
Totally pissed off at the performance and desire. Well done pool you should walk it this season with the state of the other clubsPiss poor from us and still a very long way to go ….
September 29, 2020 at 7:44 am #1878876Lucky we don’t have to play them again until Thursday 🤣🤣
September 29, 2020 at 8:41 am #1878889I thought the players looked like they had desire and thought they could nick it and for the most part They looked gutted that they had lost especially Laca. So I don’t think it was a lack of desire. That’s the 11 I would have started you could argue about Luiz over Gabs and Nenny over Ceb but that’s it ? Unless you think Arteta has some sort of Agenda or has become incompetent then we have to believe Saliba is Just not good enough at the moment. I actually believed we could Have won or got a point but it would be like last nights game where we would have to weather the storm and take our few chances. So I don’t think I was alone in thinking that so it’s not a weak mentality from fans. A few points from last night Tierney could not handle Sala one on one and was beaten to easily for the first goal. AMN Was very good against Sala and never gave him a kick in the last two games defensively he has been great On the left but he is very poor in the last last third. Thought Holding was good in one on one defending last night his distribution is still poor. Leno made a couple of good saves but Again he is starting to make me nervous playing out from the back he is just not as good as Martinez at that and the sole reason why I would have kept him.
September 29, 2020 at 9:55 am #1878915We have poor players starting every game and last night Arteta did what Wenger always did against better teams away from home. Put the white flag up with his team selection. Did he really expect us to sty in our own half for 90 minutes and steal a goal or two? What was Elneny doing alongside the left footed statue- how many forward passes did our midfield duo make? Why were Holding and Luiz in the middle, Gabriel could not have been any worse and at least has some presence? Willian looks like the overrated mercenary many thought he would be, another Chelsea reject. And this game showed yet again what a stupid mistake it was of Arteta to sell the superior keeper of the two. Leno has cost us in the past and again last might, he was at fault for the first goal and static for the second. We could have sold him back to Germany for £30m as he’s better known than Martinez. For some deluded fans like stev, the previous Wenger apologist, yes I do expect more. Leeds gave them a better game as they were not scared and they did not have duds like Leno, Holding, Luiz, Xhaka and Elneny in the team. For years, you’ve come back after a game and said they “were too good” or “what did you expect”. I expect fight, desire, commitment- from the manager and players. If you are happy with mediocrity, then you will be happy with eighth place- some “fan!”
September 29, 2020 at 9:58 am #1878916As I stated before the game playing Xhaka would be a mistake, he’s too slow, he’s caught in possession to often, his passing is all over the place and he can’t run. Elneny was on his own in the first half, we improved when Ceballos came on. Xhaka is just not good enough. Leno with the ball at his feet scares me to death, he should have stopped the 1st goal and his distribution was awful. Neither Holding or Tierney could cope and what the hell was Bellerin doing, he was hopeless. How a professional player can be penalised twice for foul throws is beyond me, stop he taking them. Also stop Pepe taking corners, his corners were awful. Let’s face it we were outplayed and are light years behind Liverpool. Had we got Klopp when we could have instead of hanging on to Clouseau that could have been us. On Thursday we will play a different side and our midfield will be improved with the likes of Willock, Nelson and Saka. Dump the dross, play the talent.
September 29, 2020 at 11:27 am #1878965stev – There’s no doubt that the mentality of the players and desire has improved so much.I can see a real change in collective team spirit and determination. It stems from the manager’s mentality. He’s worked under Guardiola who only looks to win and that’s why I mentioned one of the major benefits to sign someone who’s worked under Arteta. However the quality simply isn’t there. As things stand,I still see our team outside the top 6 even in terms of quality.I mean we finished eighth, their’s no reason to expect better if we haven’t bettered the transfer business of the couple of teams that have finished above us.
I feel bad for Arteta,I really do.Can see him leaving soon enough for a more ambitious club.
September 29, 2020 at 11:36 am #1878971We are all Fans Jeff so lets not go down who is the biggest Fan and not sure what Wenger has to Apologise for? So you don’t think last night there was commitment, fight and from the Manager or the players? I think that’s very harsh on last night and I don’t agree. Yes I do think he expected us to stay in our own half and steal a goal or two I am not sure what else we could have done and that’s exactly how we beat them and drew in the Charity Shield and came close to getting a draw last night.
I do want more players and to improve the squad, I want to be able to go there and anywhere and outplay teams, and I know at the moment we are not even near good enough. I do have belief in Arteta and I think given time and money we can get there but I think there will be ups and downs I don’t think Arteta is or will be faultless in this. As I said I wanted Martinez to stay and believe this was a mistake, but understand Arteta does not agree with me and also we only had an offer for one of the keepers and we needed money, given all that I would have still kept him.September 29, 2020 at 1:54 pm #1879030while i say we got what we deserved but the defending in the prem
lge is an all time low for me.they gifted us the first and leno should
have done better but where the hell was bellerin.you can see he looks
where mane is and then switches off when when salah get his shot in.i
praised the signing of willian in terms of his defensive qualities but
you never leave someone as good as robertson in that position.david
luiz header was just shocking and so,so poor.like every fan i was gobsmaked by arteta’s decision to leave our best
defender on the bench in gabriel.our midfield was just awful and our
best player last night was ceballos who took on and beat pool players.
why was these two left out?for me arteta was negative and looked to
play for a draw but like i said yesterday,he will learn from his
mistakes.for me mane should have had a straight red card and if that
was say a xhaka putting an elbow in the face there is no doubt he would
have had a red card.i hope to god arteta tells our useless owner why we need partey &
aouar this week.we were so outplayed in that area that it was men v
boys wasn’t it.it’s not just them it’s the likes of bellerin, holding,
luiz,not good enough.i know that saliba isn’t ready yet,but i’d
rather arteta look to build partnerships,so long term it will benefit
us.there is no doubt we are going to have highs and lows during the
season but i’m so glad in getting the anfield nightmare out of the
way.our yardstick this season is when we play the likes of utd, spuds,
chelski & leichester.that will define our season.nothing to fear
amongst those especially if we could get those two midfield players in.September 29, 2020 at 2:17 pm #1879042Hi Steve
Yes we need a major overhaul. Who from last night’s starting eleven would be an automatic starter? Tierney ( who was possibly not 100% fit as he was not good) and Auba. The rest are nowhere. Auba has to start playing centrally as Arteta is playing Laca where our captain should be. Ok Laca is earning £190k a week, but it is detrimental playing Auba on the wing, just to get Laca centrally. Who is the better striker? Artata has to start being ruthless and not playing people on reputation. Luiz? Crap or occasionally in a cup game, brilliant. Holding, always crap. Xhaka, not quality and so slow and immobile and Bellerin has gone backwards. We are being held to ransom by clubs as they know we are desperate. Aouar and Partey- little change from £90m? Whereas Allan and Doucoure cost the same in total as we are being quoted for Partey! Speaks volumes of our now non -existing scouting brigade and negotiating team that we have to pay top dollar for these payers no-one had heard of much before whilst we are being forced to buy not loan? The club will do well to finish sixth at best this season.September 29, 2020 at 3:29 pm #1879074hi jeff.i would prefer aub down the middle too.i know that lacca
has scored 3 in 3 games but i think if that was aub with that
chance,he would have scored and made it 2-2.we all know that goals
changes games and that would have given us a huge lift.before the game last night i was watching the transfer show on
skysports and they seem to think that afc are in a strong position
in getting the aouar & partey deals done because both lyon and
ath madrid need to sell and are desperate for the cash.i think they
have a point but this is afc we are dealing with and we know every
transfer window we always fall short.it’s simple for me.here’s a stone cold fact no gooner could disagree
with me on.we have never replaced patrick vieira.what’s that,
some 15/16 years ago?no challenge for the a prem lge title and the
same old, season in season out.now i’m not saying by finally signing
a partey we will challenge right away but at least there will be signs
that we are on the right track.i also thought tierney was a bit short
but totally disagree with roy keane thats he’s a problem.tierney has
been brilliant for us and even the great tony adams would struggle
with clowns around him.i hope we sign these 2 players but the talk
is at best we might get only the one.if that turns out the case most
gooners will be disappointing but we’ve been through this every transfer
window.the sign of any great team is the spine and we still need major
surgery for me.October 1, 2020 at 1:08 pm #1879768The West Ham game illustrated how pedestrian we were in midfield and although we won we didn’t deserve to. We then go to Leicester a much better side and we throughly deserved to beat them. Reason, simple we had a totally different midfield, Willock, Sala, Nelson had to much pace for Leicester, too much movement, every time they had the ball they looked to go forwards. Let’s hope we get those changes tonight, I want to see a midfield of Nelson, Ceballos, Willock and Sala, they will take the game to Liverpool and whatever the score we won’t be outplayed as we were on Monday. What bothers me now is if we sign Aouar Arteta will drop Ceballos and play him alongside the plodding Xhaka, that would ruin him. We have given up on Pardey we simply don’t have the cash and we are going to have to shift Torreira, Kolasinac and Guendouzi to get Aouar We will have to wait until Monday to see I suppose.
October 1, 2020 at 3:25 pm #1879842Back to tonight’s game! Its seems most of us don’t give a shite but I think its a good competition to keep the whole squad involved and I think would be great to win although its not a priority. I would like to see the same front three as against Leicester, I think Cedric will start to give Hector a rest, If we cant sell Gwen we might as well give him a game and it would put him in the shop window. Not sure what else he will do around that as we do have a game on Sunday so he will have to rest a couple of players.
October 1, 2020 at 4:32 pm #1879859Stev, I personally would like us to win the competition, its a cup we always seem to fair well and go far in. its a cup at the end of the day, not a priority but winning breeds winning.
Oracle I hope you are wrong about Partey, we need him a lot more than we need Aouor we have missed a solid DM since Gilberto. Aouor is not essential as we do have players not as good but players that can do a job further up the pitch.
we will ring the changes tonight, New keeper getting his debut, Cedric, kola, Gabriel, Willock, Nelson, Pepe, Eddie will all come in and start I hope. Would mind seeing Saliba either to be fair. Should be a good game.
October 1, 2020 at 7:08 pm #1879974Oh Gawd, Xhaka is playing 🙄
October 1, 2020 at 7:10 pm #1879975No saliba even on the bench ? And I assume Hulk is staying as he is playing and no Gwen, maybe they have found a deal. Ceb is playing and he must be starting on Sunday so let’s hope he does not get injured.
October 1, 2020 at 11:15 pm #1880052Brilliant.Not the performance, the Result. It’s impressive because personally I don’t care about the cup, it’s just a competiotn to give your youngsters a chance, but what I saw from the last two games is just such a positive change in attitude and desire.Arteta even if he doesn’t succeed he’s managed to install that mentality which he probably learnt from Pep.
Leno, great game.Arguably his best game. The one thing I liked is he kept a clean sheet.Won us the game.Credit where credit is due.
I still however favour martinez, and that opinion won’t change unless Leno wins a comp. It’s a silly cup, now they’ve drawn us to City. What kind of fixture list is this?Is there a rule this club has to get ridiculously tough fixtures just because we won a cup last season. It’s three toughest games in a row you could ask for,Useless FA.
